Is Brungwath and his Oathbreaker friends supposed to disappear after a certain amount of time. In the Instance: A Sunset Storm, I was about to take on the captain of the second ward and his group of 3 sorcerers when they just disappeared.
please someone tell me where to get the brungwaths horn and meddalion please ..
From the best I can tell, you are only able to receive one of the two items. This will be based on your decision while questing in the Rushgore. If you decide to spare the Oathbreakers and follow that NPC's questline, you should eventually receive the Brungwath's Horn. This will lock out the other NPC's line to receive that medallion. If you chose the other path, obviously it will be the other way around, and you will not be able to receive the horn and instead pick up the medallion, usable in the other Brown Lands daily).

This is correct. Also, Brungwath and his minions will not continue to the Second Ward of Lashkarg, even if they did not despawn (which as mentioned by others, they are on a 5-minute timer.) Both the horn and medallion are meant to give a step up in the instances, not win them.

This quest is a faceroll anyway if you manage your pulls properly and have either decent CC or OK AOE.

Was this recently changed? I've had them follow me past the boss of the third ward before, and into the pull before the final boss. I just assumed that this was working as intended. I've not checked to see if this still works after the last patch, though.
On a similar note, are the four mages supposed to just stand at the gate, or should they engage the hostile mobs in the area? I think I've seen them move once. They usually just stand there and stare blankly into the distance, even if mobs are dragged to them.

Apparently Brungwath's item wasn't meant to help Tactical classes, as it only gave a Melee and Ranged damage boost. I threw it away on my RK with much disappointment.
As an aside, I am finding a number of odd class holes in itemization from this new content. First, the aforementioned lack of Tactical help on Brungwath's item. Next, crafted relics: nothing for Captains or tank classes. There is a Might relic that gives Physical Mastery, and a Will relic that gives Tactical Mastery, but nothing with Might and Tactical Mastery for Captains. Also, there are no new crafted relics that give Vitality. If I might request one, I'd ask for one with +Vitality and +Physical and +Tactical Mitigation (no Crit or Mastery ratings).

for me the three wraiths usually head out on their own and busy themselves killing mobs on their own. dont they do that for tactical classes?

If this is the intention, it's not working as intended. I regularly have them right up to the last door before the boss area, past the third ward.

Confusion here. You are both talking about different items. The item in question here is the Horn which summons Oathbreakers in the Lashkarg assault instance. Belaeren is talking about the other item, which gives you a short term damage boost in the Etheburg defence instance

Both items are actually kinda pointless really....the Defend Etheburg instance is a total faceroll and only takes about 5 minutes anyway. The First Ward in Lashkarg can be almost entirely circumvented by just following the wall around, I think you only have to fight the initial gate guard and the gate guards at the end of the First Ward.
Honestly, the instance was much longer and tougher when I used my Oathbreakers, since they will attack everything and you get aggro for it. Much easier just to walk around, unless you reeeeally need more Punctured Shields and Decorative Sword Sheaths....
