Ok, so I'm obviously not new, but this is for a friend of mine (who is)
He recently bought Mine of Moria Complete edition from Amazon.com
The issue is he bought it used, and the product key that is inside was used by the owner before him.
Any advice for what I can tell him to do?
(he feels robbed because he bought it for the product key and he didn't buy it new because new cost to much for his liking.)
Any ideas?
and... please don't say to submit a ticket, Idk if Terbine would be willing to help me with this issue...
this is the message he gets if he inserts the Product key...
The Product Key you entered is already in use. If you believe this is an error, please contact Turbine Customer Service by visiting support.turbine.com. [err: 30026]
I'm sorry to break this news to you... but buying the used game was a waste of money. The ONLY valuable thing in these old out-of-print boxes is the product key, and only if it is unused. Basically, he got an out-of-date manual, some obsolete disks, and maybe a keyboard overlay that could be useful.
If he wants an up-to-date copy of the game, he could try buying the Mithril Edition. That won't give him any VIP time, but it comes with some good quest packs, some TPs, and an exclusive mount.
If he knew the Product Key had been used, then I'm afraid that was an unwise purchase. If it was presented to him as being unused, then that was (literally) criminal.

If it was advertised as new but what he got was used, giving the "already in use" error, then he'd have a valid complaint. In that case, he could complain to Amazon that the item received was not what he'd ordered and paid for, and get his money back. (This has been known to happen with third party sellers offering these through Amazon's site, but luckily Amazon has a pretty good claims service to deal with such problems.)
However, if your friend deliberately chose to buy the used one because it was cheaper, then he can't really complain that it's used. He chose to buy a pretty useless product, so he got a pretty useless product. He wasn't robbed; he's just regretting an unwise purchase.
