Asto's Gambit Compendium [Warning: Comprehensive]
Introduction
This guide has been updated for the Riders of Rohan expansion. As before, please let me know of any deficiencies or errors in the information provided.
This guide is meant to be a purely factual reference guide for old and new wardens alike.
Some notes about the Compendium:- I've consolidated the damage of the gambit to display only the average rather than the range, and do not list the length of DoTs or HoTs because those depend on trait line.
- The magnitude of the numbers listed is what is on my tooltips, at level 85 with a random trash 3A spear and 3A javelin; these will vary by level and by stats. However, these numbers can be used to compare gambits in a given stance.
- Gambits for Determination were recorded while shield traited, but without any traits that buffed gambit avoidance. Gambits for Recklessness and Assailment were recorded spear traited. Gear was a mish-mash of DPS and tanking gear without set bonuses, and was consistent throughout. I tried to make this guide as trait- and gear-independent as possible.
- I tried to make note of tooltip oddities and possible bugs as I found them; they are listed under their respective gambits. (Note: most of these have been fixed since I first published this guide)
- Threat values for gambits are as follows, taken from here, where T is some unknown unit of threat:
- Slightly Increased threat = 0.5T
- Moderately Increased threat = 1T
- Increased threat = 2T
- Greatly increased threat = 3T
- Effect Stacking - All effects stack with each other and not with themselves with the following exceptions:
- Threat increases and Threat increases over time (stack with each other and themselves)
- Effects listed in the Effects That Do Not Stack sections (do not stack with each other)
- Tiered Gambits (tier up rather than stack with themselves and other tiers of their buffs)

Tiered Gambit Effects
For these gambits, you can either use the highest tier to get the big effect for a short duration, or use at least one gambit of equal or lower tier beforehand to get the big effect for a longer duration. For example, using Brink of Victory by itself will net you a 10s long buff, but if you use War-Cry first, it will last 30s. Alternatively, you could use Brink of Victory twice to get the 30s buff.

Tiering Gambit Effects
Bleed Bonus
When Mighty Blow is used with Power Attack active, a bonus burst of damage occurs. Same applies for when Unerring Strike is used when Mighty Blow is used. This effect is consumed when used; you cannot repeat Unerring Strike twice to get the bonus two times off of only one Mighty Blow.Tier 1 - [123] Power AttackReflects

In order to get the most out of the reflective shields from [213] Shields Up and [2132] Shield Mastery, they must be tiered up. To get the 61 damage reflect, you must either use Shield Mastery twice, or Shields Up and then Shield Mastery.Tier 1 - [213] Shields Up

Bleed Bonus
When Combination Strike is used with the bleed from Offensive Strike active, a bonus burst of damage occurs. Same applies for when Boar's Rush is used when the bleed from Combination Strike is in effect. This bonus is consumed when used; you cannot repeat Boar's Rush twice to get the bonus two times off of only one Combination Strike.Tier 1 - [123] Offensive Strike

Fellowship Buffing
Using a gambit will give the fellowship a buff to the type of damage listed of the percent listed. When a gambit is used with a buff of equal or lower tier present, the amount is added together and the duration is refreshed. This can only be done once per tier; e.g. if you use two Tier 1 gambits you have reached the max of that Tier at 2%, and you must move up to Tier 2 in order to build the buff farther. Once a buff has reached max level for a given tier, it cannot be refreshed; you must start from the beginning when it expires OR you must extend it using the Tier above it. Tier 4 is the highest it can go, which gives a 4% buff.

This is very cool.
One issue I see is that you show main-hand damage for most Assailment skills, but most of those are Javelin damage.

If "Shield Mastery" lasts 60 seconds and gives +1500 Evade and +1500 Block, what is the point in using the other buffs? I hope I'm not missing anything obvious, but I just can't work it out.
Edit: Turns out I was missing something obvious. The other buffs are not just buffs; they are taunts, HoTs, DoTs etc. Although, this does lead me to another question. Would the lesser buffs override "Shield Mastery"?Last edited by Eruiadan; Mar 28 2012 at 05:35 PM.

In Assailment, "Main-Hand" is supposed to refer to your javelin, but I can see how that might be unclear. I'll add a disclaimer to the Assailment section mentioning that, thanks.
All buffs stack with each other except the ones listed under the "Effects That Do Not Stack" section. So there is no reason you can't have Shield Mastery up in addition to other buffs, such as Dance of War, Shield Tactics, etc. Our gambits are set up in such a way that everything carries an opportunity cost - playing a warden effectively is done by prioritizing gambits that have a larger effect over the ones with smaller effects based on what you're doing (threat, avoidances, heals, etc.). The lists at the end of the sections are meant to help out with that - so if you want to buff your block you know which gambits will be most effective.
I'll add a section in the introduction clarifying stacking effects better.
Not a bad idea, I'll add this section when I get the time (probably in the next day or two). Shouldn't be too bad, just a matter of copy and pasting.
