Hey there guys. I have been lurking around LOTRO for a while and it really caught my interest, though the buggy account creation (on which I spent a few days trying to find a solution, but none of them worked) and crashing downloader made me forget it... For some time. Well, you know, two days ago I was just surfing and I came across LOTRO advert. Hey, my former interest did not degrade so I clicked and noticed that the registration window looked different = INSTANT HAPPINESS. I threw up my account immediately and fixed the problem with the downloader (my regards to this forum, where I found the answer - it was crashing because of active AVAST A-V).
Well, read through lot of articles during download time, I finally entered the world. My game automatically set in the ultra graphics mode while running the Standard-res edition. I was really taken away. Rolled an Elf Hunter, dime a dozen, whatever, really enjoyable for now. The world is fascinating. It seems like it is really alive. The characters I meet are no longer just "some guys", the personal touch and variety is everywhere. So real, so great. Graphics astonishing and I find myself just watching my cloak in the wind when I run. Even reading through quest conversation - a thing I never did before. The story really sinks in and I enjoy going through every single quest, just for the sake of it, it's some real fun! Not to mention that the way that English is used in times really suits the atmosphere. I am really taken away. I was skeptical that this is another Pay2Win RPG for hard-core Tolkien fans and I must say that I was pretty off with that statement. Every minute I spent here makes me more interested in the actual lore and I really enjoy my time here. I am playing on Laurelin as RP is something I enjoy to do and LOTRO seems just great for it's purpose. There is a lot for me to grasp as the world is big and I am just getting to know the mechanics, but I am looking forward to it for sure!
I just started playing this game a well and we share a lot of opinions. I weren't able to create an account aswell untill somebody refered me with another link. I am still clueless as to what is causing the error.
I'm playing as a Elf hunter in Eldar. Too bad we didn't pick the same world! What's the difference between RP worlds and normal worlds in this game actually?
Have fun during your gameplay

Hey Ivar, same here, I am just glad it was resolved. The biggest different would actually be in role-playing of course. On Non-RP servers you are not expected to role-play whereas on a RP server, it is expected that you will spend some time in character, role-playing and that you actually enjoy doing so. Nothing tells not to RP on a Non-RP server, but players did not come there to RP mainly. I am here for a little time so I cannot say how exactly the community is on Laurelin, but for now, I am glad that I haven't seen any hard-core RP monsters here. The flow is nice and natural and there are Non-role-players also, but seem to respect the rules like any other. So the balance is good
I see what you mean. I never really tried it, as I mostly just follow what the game tells me to do, but it sounds really fun. Might make a character in your world sometimes so I can try it out
Thanks!

Welcome on board friend. Lotro isn't just a game. It's a breath-taking journey in a realistic Middle Earth. I have never looked back since I started playing in 2007. Never have I stayed with an MMO for so long. There is something different in LOTRO and I am glad you noticed that. Safe travels and may your journeys be ever enjoyable.

oh..yes....Lotro does have many breathtaking views of scenery indeed....
Sometimes i enter middleearth just to go swimming and fishing by the waterfall...
Try doing that in firstperson mode by scrolling the mousewheel all the way inwards, it feels as though you are actually swimming in the beautiful lake...
I am glad you resolved the technical issues and were finally able to create a character inside the vast world of Middle-Earth. I started playing when the game first came out. I BETA tested it for a few days as well but the initial feeling of stepping foot into M.E. was amazing. I loved questing through the Shire. Being a long time fan of Tolkien it was so cool seeing all the landmarks. You will not regret the decision, especially if you are a past MMO fan. One thing that I really like about LOTRO is the lack of loading screens. Being able to travel from Ered Luin all the way to the outer walls of Moria without the game even thinking is simply amazing. By far the best MMO that I have ever played, I still love it to this day.
Good luck and happy travels. My first character was an Elf Hunter (actually I only have 2 characters, my Hunter from day 1 of the game and a Warden from their inception) so if you ever need any pointers let me know!

Agreed. I played Guild Wars for about a month... came back to LOTRO. Played RIFT for about a month... came back to LOTRO. Ha ha. Just recently played SW:TOR for about 3 months, only to once again return to LOTRO out of boredom. The only game that I have played longer then LOTRO was SWG. I played that from BETA until its closure in December, so about 8 years. LOTRO is still my go to game though. Great community, great group content, amazing graphics, and good solo play too.
I played GW for 3 months. It was the first MMO I properly tried, but I always felt as if there was something missing? like there should have been more than just running and killing cos that's pretty much all the quests are on there.
First attempt at Lotro I also had problems. Directx in my case.. defaulted to v10 and wouldn't let me make a character.. most of that screen was black. Had the sense to look into settings and 'fiddled' with it a bit... upshot was Directx9 works fine! I made an elf, don't even remember what class now but had problems getting my head around the differences day 1. Left it alone for 4 days, undecided whether to delete or not... then gave it another go first. Sooo glad I did !!! Rolled a hobbit hunter and 3hrs later I was still playing and caught hook line and sinker LOL. I LOVE IT!!!!! I haven't been back to GW at all. I feel like this is a complete package, no feelings of stuff missing or needing more depth, it's all here!!! Bril and ty to Devs
Yeah also addicted to this lotro... The environment is awesome... The variety of all cosmetics , mounts , races, skills makes the game full of random stuff... Joining a kin and doing fellowship quests is great... Great regions with many quests...
All very nice and enjoyable... This game makes me feel I need to have best performance PC hardware to enjoy it more...

There are several differences between RP server and rest of servers.
First, on RP server, the naming rules are more severe and more enforced. So, while you can get off with McKiller or Whackanything Mobsbane on Eldar, you will get force-renamed to something autogenerated if you do that on RP server.
Second, you arent expected to RP on RP server, but you are expected to honour it when other people do their RP and you must not interrupt it with crazy antics/non-lore talk etc etc. Doing so may get you warnings and temp ban, up to ban from RP server (not from other servers, unless its general harassment rules that are broken).
Third, you must abide by speaking in the proper channels, and /say and /regional should be kept free of OOC talk, so no saturday football discussion there. What you speak in /tell, /fellowship, /kinship, /raid, /ooc and /globallff channels is your decision. General rules apply, so no swear/hate speech and like.
Thank you, Turbine, for listening and giving us an opt-out of FE! Good work!
