After trying out a ton of other MMO's of all category's which never fullfilled my wishes, I decided to give LOTRO a shot.To be honest, there was a reason why I never did try LOTRO before. I'm the kind of person who detets a point-and-click combat system in games on an average base. Seeing the combat style of LOTRO in video reviews didn't gave me a happy feeling about it. However, when I finally decided to just give it a shot, I immediately felt that it was very different as I had been thinking. The combat mechanics are smooth and you actually have to aim your attacks, which I like. Next to that, the graphics are looking very well and everything fits nice with each other. Even on the lowest settings.
I started of as an Captain in Windfola. I finished the Intro and what I liked most about the class is his shout to unlock other skills. When I finished the intro I realized that Windfola is an NA server and as I am a European I decided to start over in Eldar. This time as a Hunter. Or better said: Huntress.
My race is an elf and I like it how the Intro story differs from this of the Human race. The first thing I did not like is that the quests of both Intro's I've played are mostly very similar to each other. The only thing different is the story. The class is very enjoyable so far as well. You have fun attacks and I like the focus-system although it looks a bit like the shout from the captain, just in another way.
Something which i did not really like, is the way you can fall and lose a lot of morality in this game. It happened to me a couple of times that my character was continiously making the falling-animation after making a drop from a mountain, while I was actually already standing. Or at least it looked like it to me...
Survived it most of the times, but one time it resulted in a unfortunate morality drop which I felt really bad about as it was the first time my morality dropped to zero!
I recieved a one day mount which I really like for walking long distances. The mount system is not very unique compared to other games though. I also got an pop-up that I can get my own mount and it told me to find a mount-master. However, I haven't been able to find one yet and I'm still trying to get my own mount!
The animations of your own character look very smooth in my opinion. What I also like is that the arrows actually shoot in the direction you are looking at, and not just straight to the enemy like in most games.
I like to aim a bit myself!
I do think that the animations of the monsters are a bit buggy at times, but absolutely nothing to complain about.
I just reached level 10 and I have yet to test out a lot about the game, I'm looking forward to it though. First on my list right now is to check out the PvP system and the Hobby system. I will also have to look around for a kinship to share my adventures with. The game has some flaws, but is way better as I expected. I downloaded the game just to kill some time with it, as I do with most MMO's, but it actually turned out to be a game on which I can really stay for a while. On the free to play list, I really think LOTRO deserves a top 5 position on my list. I'm definately going to stay around and play the game for a while.
If anyone wants to add me in game: Zyhria - Huntress of the Elven race - Eldar.
Overall: 8.5/10
Thank you for reading and appologies for my poor English: I'm from Holland.
