The only clue at all was the description of the Turncoat's Note which states:

"This note implicates one of Céola's men as a traitor."

You get that little icon that says you have an item that starts the quest "Sellswords and Turncoats", you click it and the description reads:

This note implicates one of Céola's men as a traitor, assisting Hafoc's brigands. There is a seal upon the note, which Céola might recognize.

Upon turning it in to Céola (as anyone who wants to help the camp out for rep would naturally do) you get the following from Céola:

'What is this? One of my men is a traitor? Aye, I recognize this seal…it belongs to Dagbert's house. I will have him hung!

'Men, go at once and sieze Dagbert the traitor!'

By this time it's too late, and honestly, it never crossed anyone's mind that I know who has the same problem that this would completely block the execution of the entire camp quest line.

I'm not sure if there was red text because as stated before, I mass dumped about 5 quests at once to Céola before going over to talk to Dagbert (was in a hurry) and Sellswords and Turncoats was one of them. But that shouldn't matter, there shouldn't be anything I should be able to do to chop an entire quest line off at the ankles whether I was in a hurry or wanted to help out the camp by routing out a traitor.

Still wish someone would officially admit this is a problem and is being looked at, as well as that the next node of skarn I mine has a worn symbol in it. I think I would probably find the symbol first...

"Black Wind from the East" is one of the four starter quests. This one has to be turned in Dagbert. Dagbert gives out two other quests after this quest (one of which is "Blades of the East", which is what got me confused), and these latter two quests can be turned in at either Dagbert or Ceola.

I'm pretty sure I didn't get the quests to explore Helstor before I finish all four of the starter quests, but that might have to do with the way I explored the region. (It's quite hard to not finish Black Wind from the East before the others, since all it requires is the killing of a few Easterlings, which are all over the place.) The item that removes Dagbert permanently drops from a quest mob inside the cave in Helstor. If you were sent to Helstor by the quests before you finish Black Wind from the East, then you've stumbled upon some sequencing error, which is definitely a bug.

Did you guys managed to unlock the daily repeatables though? If your only concern is to complete the quest deed, the repeatables should count. This is going to be a hairy bug to fix because the phasing technology does remove Dagbert for good.

can't unlock repeatables without it, as those are gated behind this one.

looks like we didn't whine loudly enough.

A pity that a show stopper and a content blocker is being completely ignored in order to make sure we get little red highlight icons to tell that broken swordsheath in my inventory wasn't there before...

I believe that it was said the bug reports were too late for this update, but I would sincerely hope that we didn't have to wait a month for the fix to this one. This need to be bumped up the priority list since EVERY DAY affects our ability to earn rewards.

I know it looks like I'm defending the devs, but my feelings will quickly change the longer I have to wait for a hotfix or update to this. It's a huge problem and unfair. Now they know there is a problem. Now they should be making this high priority. The clock has started (as far as I and many others are concerned).

Not sure how to read this, Update 6 went live what, March 12th? My first bug report was March 15th, I know because I submitted it a day before I started this thread. If a bug report submitted 3 days after the first release went in too late to be included in this update, perhaps Update 6 shouldn't have been released in March at all?

Or perhaps it was just the devs thinking we were all blowing hot air and there was no bug, only to finally determine that OOPS! there is one after all.

I would guess that not enough people sent in bug reports? I don't know. I'm not used to giving them slack. Like I mentioned...I feel like my patience will be short-lived, however.

I sent my bug reports on the 23rd so I probably would have been able to avoid this problem if I would have logged in to the forums and read this post earlier. But thats not the point now.

I believe what you said and I do feel that there weren't enough people bugging it for the devs to take it serious.

Actually, I am the opposite and have been cutting them slack for years probably to my disadvantage always giving them the benefit of the doubt. Never whining, never complaining, hence my post count.

I can only speak for myself, but all these issues lately and the fact that for the ones that cant complete it, cant get to the repeatable quest actually kind of struck a nerve with me and has actually had me doubting that it will get better.

From what I have seen I'll take the bet that if they do fix this it wont be before the Rohan expansion,and that may be too long for me.

I send bug report in the 17th of march after i got told by GM's it was a unknown issue, so first reports must have been on time early enough. Fingers crossed that we get a fix soon (come on turbine we still love you, as long you sort it before RoR!)

Was this fixed? I haven't been down there since, choosing instead to focus on things I could control, like a lower level character. This bug needs fixing ASAP if it hasn't already been sorted out.

I´m beginning to think they wont fix this anytime soon since they could not be bothered in the last patch

Oh joy it looks like i am the newest member of this club! Got a gm to review my quest lines and said he couldnt help. Have then submitted a bug report but from the look of this thread it might be some time till it is fixed!

Wow, looks like I lucked out. I actually did all the quests around the Brown Lands except the ones for the northern Brigand camp. When I recieved the Sundown Somethingerather quest from Ceola and he was complaining about Dagbert's treachery I was all, "wait, what? treason? who the hell is Dagbert?"

Turns out he was the guy at the bottom of the hill who was so shocked I managed to stay alive through all his quests.

Hope you guys get a bug fix soon!

There is no warning and it cuts off a major part of the game at this point. Do what is right, please. Fix this. Stop cutting off stuff with choices. It's a cheap and lazy tactic. Just let us decide for ourselves how to proceed instead of funneling us through...didnt you say that's what you were gonna do anyway?

If it was a choice it would be completly different but for who got the drop item quest before finishing Dagbert's quest there wasn't any warning or sign that it would block Dagbert's quest. Probably they just overlooked at first that this could gonna happen but after last weeks update we should have had a fix, Please Turbine help us out we want to know how the The Great River quest story line ends!

I always do that with new areas, I turn of the quest tracker and do it old school, by reading the quest description.
And there was no way to know that turning in that quest would make Dagbert disappear.

Submitted a bug report today after a GM said he couldnt do anything to help

Anyone know if this is going to be addressed in the next update?

Quests

•There was a bug that allowed players to block progression in the Brown Lands if they completed Sellswords and Turncoats before completing Trouble Enough (since Dagbert phased out.)

A Black Wind from the East has been removed from Trouble Enough and can be completed even if Dagbert phases. Ceola will then bestow Dagbert's remaining quests.

If Sellswords and Turncoats is turned in after Dagbert's remaining quests are underway, they will fail, and Ceola's versions will become available.

If Sellswords and Turncoats is turned in before A Black Wind from the East is obtained from Dagbert, Ceola will bestow A Black Wind from the East.

This should unblock everyone currently blocked.

I just want to make it known that while I had a right to complain, it's only right to thank and praise the team for getting a fix in the pipeline in a timely manner. Thank you to the development team for working on making our game experience a little bit better.

First, this was not timely at all.

Second, even if we were to give them the benefit of that call of timeliness, the total and complete lack of any acknowledgement at all from "anyone" in the know that this was a bug and would be addressed shows a lacking at the highest level.

So OK, thanks devs thanks for surprising us with this fantastic fix by cleaning up someone's oversight in quest development. Appreciate it!

In my past experiences waiting for fixes, they've done much worse. I called for them to put in a fix before Rohan and they did. Now, while it's true that Update 7 won't be out soon, at least they're doing SOMETHING. It doesn't exactly feel like they're acknowledging the error, but it does appear that they're willing to fix it. I'm willing to forgive.

Accidents happen. It is much better to just come out and say "oops...I'm sorry" than for all of us to KNOW it was a mistake and see them dance around it. It happens so often now that it really is enough for me to just have them fix it. I'd rather wait for that then wait for them to say they're sorry. Now, if they HAD NOT put this in the bullroarer notes, my post above would have looked MUCH different...and less civil.

So after logging in with somewhat anticipation to check...I have one question...

Is it okay to finally stop lovefesting the devs and get indignant? No fix, still stuck behind the invisible wall, still can't complete Brown Lands.

I dropped another ticket (about the 4th now) and am waiting to see how they handle it.

Update, here is the news from the GM:

Today was a maintenance downtime only. No changes were made to the game. Unfortunately, you will need to wait for the next game update regarding your quest issues.

It was just server maintenance though, not an update. They didn't plan or mention on fixing anything with this, we will just have to wait until the Update 7 release.

I know its frustrating but speaking for myself, I've been trying to focus on other things and have the mindset that it will get fixed eventually.

That they have addressed that there is an issue and that they will fix it helps more than anything for me.

While there are those who would make the excuses for the devs in this light or that...no, it has not. Most likely will be with Update 7, whenever that is coming out.

NO, because that wasn't a update/patch, it was routine server maintaince, so no ingame changes.

E.g. When you bring a car to a garage to let it check up you also don't get it back with a new color!

ps. sorry for my reaction but there is way to many shouting that this "update" didn't fix anything, while it wasn't a update.


Few weeks waiting and we should be able to finish the Great River storyline.

According to the login screen U7 will be posted on May 14, so we have our fingers crossed that this oversight will be finally fixed (most call it a bug but it is an oversight, one of a dev team who should have mind-mapped the entire Brown Land chain to identify quirks and possible walls such as “oh wow, what if this player trips over the quest item in the cave and turns it in before they complete the initial Dagbert quest…but hey, that will never happen!”)

Some even question or berate those of us who are “miffed” because of the “oversight” and the subsequent arguments that ensue. Well, has anyone of these individuals considered:

• We who are stuck behind this wall will be rushing to finish U6 while our kin, friends and colleagues will be experiencing U7 and finishing it before us?
• We have lost an average of 108 gold tokens awarded for dailies for dedicated players? (Based on running dailies from March 20 till May 12, omitting down days completely. I have no idea how many silver tokens were lost.)
• Deed completion for GR was delayed, as well as the TP that is associated with it?

Complaining that folks are upset that the update wasn’t an update at all, well, most the complaints wouldn’t have shown up in the first place if there had been some official response that:

• Yes community, this is a bug.
• No community, this next down day will not fix it.
• No, absolutely not, just because it’s on Bullroarer it is not being posted.
• Yes, it will be specifically included as a fix in U7 (which still isn’t confirmed, now is it?).

A lack of a simple, short and friendly post on such a problem that blocks the completion of an entire quest line in GR is the problem at its base.

My fingers are crossed and yep, I will park my toon in BL in front of Céola to see if the fix is done when the servers go down for the update. The unfortunate of all this is that I, as well as most everyone else caught by this “problem,” no longer care about the story line. We know that from our friends, kin and the forum.

We are now forced to complete the entire story line to catch up and nothing more, the text and quests are worthless except to get this thing over with.

It’s sad…but of course, those of us who say so are just complainers, now aren’t we.

Well, the problem is fixed, or is it? At least I was able to complete the deeds and get my 20TP, but I'm resolved to giving up on this...

I sincerely hope I am the only one caught by this next "oversight".

Céola flat out refuse to hand out the 2 repeatable quests, I can still get them on alts so they are still in the game

I dont even know what to say. I was going to post about the one thing that made up for the wait for me, was when i went into the Cave to do the "Wayward Captain", got lucky and a Steelbound Lootbox dropped off of one of the Brigands.

But after turning the quests in and still being at a dead end for the dailys, I am not even going to say thank you and instead say that this should have been fixed way earlier.

No access to the dailies for me either.

So trying to get enough gold/silver tokens to get my LL jewelry (FINALLY got kindred with the rep guys there), and went to try the repeatable quests in the brown lands...not showing up...this looks like a problem they've had for quite a while now, any news on when this will be fixed/what I can do in order to do this repeatable quest...?

No daily quests here for me ;(

Lol I got this bug now. I had just got the bug with Wailing Caves fixed on my last character and now I don't have the repeatable for this quest line either.
