The Inventory and Items help tip finally went away, which I feel might have been caused by the new items we got with the changes to the class quests. If you're getting that tooltip when you log in, try selling off the health potions and the armour piece you got from the quests they changed, and see if the tooltip stops showing up.
It goes away if you relog, but if I close the client and restart the game it comes back. I have no extra armour and I have only westfold potions and pots in my inventory.
Curiously, the evolution of the internet seems inversely proportional to the evolution of man.
I am having the same problem of not being able to log in to my warden, just sits at loading screen and says not responding.
This problem has been ongoing for some time now and needs to be fixed, it is obviously not isolated to a few folks. My warden is my main and I even have the problem sometimes when I log into another character first then to the warden. The more I run into the problem the less I play LOTRO and the more I do other things and play other games. If it continues long enough I will just give up trying to log in and move on to other games for good.
Same issue - can't log my warden in first time into game. Have to log another character in the same zone first. Have had this problem since U6 went live.
OK I thought my kinship was teasing me saying this is a Warden only problem. Interestingly I'm also in Windows 7 64-bit, with an SSD. What a bizarre problem!
The best solution that I can find is as what others have said: log into another character and find the area that your warden is at, then log out and log into your warden. I've been getting the lost connection error constantly now, whereas I use to be able to log into eventually (sometimes took 5 minutes to do so though), but after moving a different character to where my warden was it logs right in. The Inventory and Items help tip finally went away, which I feel might have been caused by the new items we got with the changes to the class quests. If you're getting that tooltip when you log in, try selling off the health potions and the armour piece you got from the quests they changed, and see if the tooltip stops showing up.
Some progress seems to be happening on this. I got a response to my help ticket that had me test if the problem persisted when my sound card was disabled. That's obviously not a solution, but I'm happy to say this did end up letting me get logged in on my warden as the first character. However - it still took so long to load the character that I almost gave up and would have killed the process before seeing that this did work.
I have the same issues as well; both with my Warden and with my Champion as well. I can login for varying amounts of time, then the game freezes except chat, and then the dreaded "Lost Connection to Server" From that point onward, I can't login for another day or so to whichever character was affected. Update 6 is great, but this bug is inching me closer and closer to deleting LOTRO.
Same problem for me. lvl 54 Warden in Moria won't load. Occasionally she loads after I've played another character but much more frequently not loading at all. The game just hangs with me watching a loading bar that doesn't load and a ring anation that doesn't animate until Windows tells me that the game isn't responding. When she does load I get a lesson in how to use my inventory. Other people in my kin are experiencing similar problems including other wardens.
Submitted a ticket to a GM in game to get some guidance and was directed to fill out a support ticket on turbine.com/support which I did immediately. Got back an auto-reply with a pointer to some guidance about how to fix the game not loading at all. Replied, as requested, that this offering did not result in a solution as it was solving a problem I did not report.
Been stuck in warden limbo.
I pay money for a VIP account in order to enjoy this game. I do not pay money to play a broken game. I've asked others in my kin to submit tech support tickets and been told they won't because "everyone knows that Turbine doesn't care."
I don't want to sound like a griper because that's not my nature but if I'm being told that submitting a ticket via appropriate channels is gonna get me action, I'd like to see that action.
Out of curiosity can everyone thats having the problem, run lotro in windowed mode pls, and look at your connection to network/internet icon in the taskbar (bottom right id assume?) On mine, when the game does lock up/freeze when trying to load the character in, the games conflict or crash or w/e it is, actually does force my computer to d/c from the internet for at that time.
I was having a problem with this, but not on my warden I was able to log in to him fine. It was my guard that was having this problem. It would take like 10 minutes to load and then crash. Attempting to log in an alt and then the guard resulted in the same problem, often it was taking 3 or 4 times. I ended up buying a new computer system basically (motherboard, cpu, ram, hd ,upgrade to windows 7 64 bit from vista 32, and videocard). After the hardware upgrade I also redownloaded and reinstalled the game on the new HD. No more logging in problems. Not sure if that info will help but hopefully!
The workaround works for me now that I moved one of my working characters to the exact same spot where I logged my warden out... I've only tried it once though.
Same problem here so add me to the growing list. Thought it was any of the freep toons as I could log into my creeps without issue, but your right its only the warden that seems to have the problem. At least for me.
For others having this issue thought I would mention I have been having exact same problem with my warden- can't log him in as first character on char selection screen...game crashes if I do.
Problem is not unique to any computer- happens on win 7 64 bit pc, win 7 64 bit laptop and win xp pc.
I have filed a support ticket and sent them the DXdiag txt file. Support asked me to try a few things, none of which have so far worked. They suggested:
- Rename 'The Lord of the Rongs Online' folder in 'my documents'- So game creates a new one. That failed.
- Set all in game gfx settings to low, dx to dx9 and game engine speed to low. Disable sound and restart lotro and then try. That failed.
The only way I can currently access my warden is to log another toon first then log warden. If I try logging more than one other toon then try logging Warden the game crashes as non responsive process.
Hope this issue gets fixed with a future patch.
PS I do use logitech mouse on all machines if that is relevant

My Warden loads with no problems, however, the first time in each session I always get a "You have acquired an item" tip displayed. Does not happen for my other characters.
I still have this issue after the latest patch on one Warden but not the other. And I see the "Inventory" tip balloon on some of the characters and not others (Warden and non-Warden).
This issue seems to be getting worse for me. In the mornings (Central time), I can log my warden on by loading up another alt first. By the afternoon (possibly when more people are online), that does not work anymore, but 9 times out of 10 what will work is if I load an alt first that is exactly where the warden is as far as location. By the evening (possibly when the most people are online), *nothing* will work. I simply cannot play the warden in the evening. I've spoken to friends online with wardens and they seem to also be experiencing this same situation but are keeping mum about the whole thing, trusting Turbine to just fix it.
I didn't see this post when I posted couple of days ago (http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.p...nnection-issue). My main that is having this problem is also a warden and the only toon that is affected. In addition I have the tooltip pop-up everytime as well. The log another character fix has worked so far. This only started happening to me after the patch for the year 3 anniversary rewards box, prior to that it was business as normal. Clean boot and fresh install as well did nothing. I have a logitech wireless mouse that I use. Soooo I guess this post gets a....
Same prob here. Since patch for 3rd year anniv. box. Only diff is it's my hunter primarily. Win 64bit also. Very frustrated with this. First big prob I've had with this game.
Would SOMEONE from Turbine please acknowlege this thread is IMPORTANT as it concerns a currently active bug that needs to be fixed?
This bug has been in the game since Mid-March and it is now the bottom half of April. At least a status report is in order after a service problem this severe has persisted so long. Even the workaround to load another toon first and then switch to the warden is no longer working.
I paid to become a VIP and to buy Moria expressly to play a Warden. I reported this problem following all the instructions I was given by a GM, by the tech support page and by the absurdly irrelevant email I got in reply to my bug report.
Does VIP only mean Very Ignored Player?
I can tolerate a problem if I'm at least treated with some courtesy and respect while it is being solved.

How about it?
I sent in a ticket in March and have been following the steps they have been giving me since. Early on they told me they believe that the issue is warden specific (pretty obvious as seen in this thread lol) and that they and their engineering teams were working on it. They also told me that their engineers had tried solving the problem with the little update that came with the anniversary events (6.1).
I haven't had the problem as much after update 6.1, and I can log into my warden pretty much every time now. Confusing as to why my issue is almost solved, yet you're still having a problem though. Thought I'd throw it out there since you seem to be losing hope in Turbine.
Today I tried loading my 75 Warden first, and hooray, my 75 loaded in 1 minute 30 seconds. I'll be watching this carefully for a bit though, to make sure the issue really has been fixed for me.
Been having same issue with my 75 warden and none of my other chars. Although I have to log in to him first. If I log in to a different toon first I get the lost server connection error when I try to switch to the warden. I have to restart the computer before I try to log on, works everytime. Also get the inventorxgy tip thing. Win 7 64 bit.
Since the new update, I've found ONLY the warden will not load up *initially*. When I get to the character screen, if I choose my warden, it will never load up; I'll eventually get a black screen that will say connection to server lost. However, if I choose any of my other alts, the game loads up flawlessly.
Have the same problem with my 75 Warden which was parked in Galtrev for sometime. Logged back in Did the first Epic quest at Grimbold's Camp and Crashed once Calenglad became visible. Could not login directly even after 5 attempts. Started a different alt which worked fine and then the warden worked.
First try a temporary 'clean boot'. Second (if clean boot fails to remedy) clean reinstall.
Clean Boot does not fix the problem and I refuse to re-download the whole game although I do have a backup copy of the Standard Res files Ill be more than happy to try.
Just to rule that out in your case, do you have an alternate keyboard you can try testing with? Or alternately test with LCDCore (it might be LGDCore?) disabled (its the service that handles the LCD loading/unloading of profiles) disabled via task manager while loading?
Tested on two different machines (my Desktop and Laptop) and the same problem exists although they we're installed from the same files .
Just want to reiterate that anyone experiencing this make sure you have put in or are following up on a tech support ticket. That's the best route for troubleshooting this type of an issue.
Done.
- Rename 'The Lord of the Rongs Online' folder in 'my documents'- So game creates a new one. That failed.
- Set all in game gfx settings to low, dx to dx9 and game engine speed to low. Disable sound and restart lotro and then try. That failed.
Both do not solve the problem.
Would appreciate a fix although considering that its been a month or more since this has been happening I doubt its on anyones priority list.
Edit :-
Per the issue you are reporting a "DXDiag" file can greatly aid in our troubleshooting. To send us this information as a file attachment with your reply and update your ticket, please perform the steps in the link here.
Information requested for has been sent .Would it be too much to ask if this intends to be fixed or if we are just the lucky few who will have to live with it ?
I have solved my own issue, but do not know if its related in any way to the one in this thread.
I personally use a Killer NIC network card, I found the card was on driver version 5.xxx and the automatic updater for the drivers was not working for after they had completely rewriten to a new version 6.xxx
once i updated that (which was led to byu the tech support team in a series of about 10 emails to try and diagnose the problem) everything now seems to load as per before update 6.
Bringing this back to the front page again because as of yesterday this problem, which for me was limited to the Bullroarer client, has now become an issue for my live client as well. All I did yesterday was add an extra piece of the "Shield Wall" ox clan armour to my Warden and now he will not load unless I load a different character first.
After loading a different character my Warden loads up very quickly.
If I do not load another character first I get the loading screen at 0%, the glowing ring stops glowing for about 2 minutes, then it starts glowing again. Before yesterday the Warden would load at this point. Now instead the ring begins to glow again and after waiting another 2 minutes the screen goes black with the "The connection to the server has been lost!" message, with only an option to close the client.
I will be rebugging this in-game.
Curiously, the evolution of the internet seems inversely proportional to the evolution of man.
I've been having a problem ever since yesterday when I log onto my Warden my game lags really bad but log onto my champion and the game runs perfectly fine. I tested to see if it was my connection and that is not the problem.
This is still going on I quit in may when it was happening came back and its still not fixed whats going on? Log in warden and all he does is stand there can't do anything with him.
Je relance ce sujet de discussion pour savoir si quelque un a trouvé une solution pour information je suis sur sirannon .
Meme probleme avec ma sentinelle lvl 75 impossible de me connecter sans passer par un autre perso , et info bulle pour mon inventaire.
tradut auto sorry
I raise this issue for discussion whether some one has found a solution for information I'm Sirannon.
Same problem with my lvl 75 warden unable to connect without going through another personal and tooltip for my inventory.
First one's pretty easy to test but I'd like someone (with the specific issue of only getting the connection drop on their warden, and where loading another lower level character first works) to try the clean reinstall to test for corrupt data issues.
Been having this issue for a while now, but it seems to have become more persistent since last downtime. Neither clean boot nor clean reinstall have worked. The old workaround of loading in another character first and then logging out is now not reliable either.
Win 7, 64 bit, hi res client. Game reaches the loading screen after selecting warden but fails to load and eventually 'connection to server is lost' message appears.
FYI, I started having this problem yesterday on all my characters. Loaded the 'Characters' screen fine, loaded any character (high or low level, it didn't matter), then I'd get the first frame of the game (after all loading screens) -- and it would freeze for about 5 minutes. Afterwards, it would come back, but by this time my network connection had timed out, and I inevitably wouldn't be able to move, and the game would boot me.
I did a clean reinstall, but saved my 'Lord of the Rings Online' settings folder (the one in 'Documents' in Windows 7). I uninstalled, re-installed from a clean download, and was able to run fine. I also copied over my keymapper, layout, and plugins data (though nothing else) from the old copy, and I'm still working fine.
Still don't know what the cause was, but this fixed it for me.
For those still having problems logging in or still getting that tooltip every single time you log in, my recommendation at this point would be to reset your tooltips. I did that on my warden and it has finally stopped giving me the "Items in your inventory" tooltip every time I log in. As a side note, when I reset my tooltips, the first thing I did was go kill a mob so that I'd get that specific tooltip. My warden seems to log in much faster now as well, though I haven't had "disconnected from server" issues in a while, even when logging onto my warden first after starting up the game. Sometimes he'd load slower than normal characters, but he'd always load. Turning off tooltips altogether may help as well, but I can't test it now.
I started experiencing this issue yesterday when i wanted to play Lotro again after few months break (never had a problem like this before the break).
At first the workaround with relogging worked, today it stopped working even with this workaround.
Just submitted a ticket, i wonder if maybe one of you already has a fix since knowing the Turbine i will have to wait at least 2 weeks for their reply, and the warden is my main character
Edit:
I have to say that i got positively amazed. I received a non-automatic reply from Turbine ALREADY It mentiones that the engineers and testing teams are aware and working on this issue and gives a few workarounds.
It seems that any change of options affecting the amount of data loaded by the game can help (goal- make the game load the least data possible), this includes setting "Mute game sounds", and setting the graphic to "Very Low", etc.
On a side note, i was able to login to my warden once after starting the Windows with the basic drivers/services only. Unfortunately this workaround doesn`t work always.
I have four wardens at present, three high level and one low-level. My highest and lowest warden are both on the same server, Arkenstone - Somany (75) and Teasle (25) - and are currently the only two seeing much play. All my high level characters (75 Loremaster and 70+ Captain also on Arkenstone) have noticeably longer load times than my lower level characters; I'm assuming it's because of all the extra deed and quest data related to Dunlending/Great River content, as well as the game having to check whether or not it needs to zero out their LIs/change or refund their skills/whatever else it does on a load.
The high level wardens usually have exceptionally long load times, unless they've already been loaded once in the session, in which case they usually load in about the same time as other, lower level characters.
Teasle pretty much always loads without any difficulty no matter where I logged her off, and whether or not I try to load her first. No noticeable difference between her load times and my other low-levels. Note that she is not a new character - she's been around since well before the recent update, having been my AH mule for a year or two, it's just that I've only made the decision to level her since Update 6 since I wanted to see how the changes play out over the levelling of a warden.
On to Somany, the maxed level warden:
If she was camped out in an exterior location, Somany will sometimes load without problem (other than lengthy load time) even if loaded first - rare, but it happens often enough to keep me hoping and still attempting to load her first from time to time. If she was camped out in an interior location, the game will pretty much invariably be loading for an exceptionally long time and eventually crash to desktop.
Somany will usually load without problems (apart from the already mentioned very long load time) if I've loaded another character first before trying to log her on. However, if I've done a lot of character loads/log-offs before attempting to load Somany (doing a full alt check, for example) the game will often crash to desktop anyway. This feels more like the crash I sometimes get after doing a lot of zoning around the game or if I'm stupid enough to attempt zoning into the AH or Craft Hall at Galtrev (which pretty much invariably crashes me to desktop too, oh joy - so I never AH or bank in Galtrev).
Following a crash to desktop Somany has so far always loaded on the first try without additional problem, and often without the exceptionally long load time that preceded the crash.
Note that the above only happens on my first loading of the game; the problems rarely happen on subsequent reloads of the game. I can, for example, play a character on Landroval, then exit the game, reload it, and load my high-level Arkenstone warden without problem. However, this only works for chained reloads of the game; if I exit the game and do other things for several hours, when I reload the game it's usually back to the 'first loading' behaviour again with Somany usually crashing if loaded first.
I played my level 52 warden a bit last month, and had this problem with my *level 75 guard*. I made a clean win7 64 bits reinstall, copied my game data from the external HDD were I did my backup (a simple copy, not a reinstall), and it now works flowlessly again.
My inability to load my warden (without first loading another toon and logging off in the location my warden was last at) started around level 74, abruptly, and was happening 100% of the time. It went away a couple days ago, around the time they were testing the new 'tech', but also right after I removed a bunch of un-used legendary warden items from my packs (now in the vault). Coincidences, maybe?
Of course, now I have another problem. On my warden, and only my warden, certain instances give me periodic (ie every 5 seconds) frame rate drops down to ~10fps. One second it's 30-60, then it drops down to 10 fps for a second, then back up. The same instances on other characters don't lead to this experience.
