Since the new update, I've found ONLY the warden will not load up *initially*. When I get to the character screen, if I choose my warden, it will never load up; I'll eventually get a black screen that will say connection to server lost. However, if I choose any of my other alts, the game loads up flawlessly.
WORKAROUND: What will work is if I load the game up with any of my other classes, then LOGOUT, and then choose the warden, the warden will load up just fine.
I'd love not to have to use this workaround indefinitely. Any ideas of what could be causing this and how to fix it permanently?
Did the workaround work for you, as well, Mortlach? I did also put in a support ticket so perhaps there will a less cumbersome fix than loading in another character first.
For me i get the loading screen and it will eventually freeze, the cursor doesnt move, cant alt-tab cant crtl-alt-del etc. have to power off and on my computer, is this what happens to you too?
However for me its not just my warden its happening with, its all toons that are currently logged out in Galtrev.
I'm having this problem only on my warden as well. It happens now even when she is not parked in Galtrev. But, for what it's worth, she was also the only character I had parked in Galtrev over the U6 patch day.
For me, when I try to load the warden first, I get the loading screen but it just sits there. If I wait, after a number of minutes it will go to black screen; however, if I don't want to wait, I am able to CTL-ALT-DEL to get out of it (my task manager shows the program as not responding). This is only the warden it happens on; none of my 6 other classes have any problems. But like I said, if I load up one of my other classes first and then log off (not quit the game, just log off the character to get to the character selection screen) and then choose warden, it will load up--albeit taking a bit more time to do so. For what it's worth, none of my characters were in Galtrev when the update hit. I had them all at their respective crafting guilds.
It has worked for me (god knows why) but after 2 hours of trying to load my character in, i tried in windowed mode, and im in. Its all worth a try right? lol
I was having the same problems too, but I followed a fix for the crash to desktop also posted in these forums and remarkably it worked for my warden issue. The thread is currently above this thread but will be below it as soon as I post this so Im including a link. They should give this guy a job!!
Id suggest everybody give this a shot, he even gives directions on how to undo it and its not a major technical undertaking, just make sure your machine fits the parameters given. http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.p...32-bit-Windows
There may be two problems here. Mine is the warden-specific load hangs. It is not a crash per se, but eventually gets to a "Connection to server lost" message that has the same effect. It is something you can work around by logging in first to another character.
I'm confident that version of the problem is not related to the memory limits in 32-bit Windows as I have 64-bit Windows version for that reason already.

That is for Windows 32 Bit only.
I have a Windows 7 64bit high-end PC and the same happen to me, if i try the warden as first char. So i use to log-in with a different char at first and then change to the warden.
I posted the problem on the BR server forums about 8 days ago on a thread about how the guy was having a different log-in issue. I'll repost it here:
"If you want wierd I have a trump card. If I log on to Bullroarer and try to log in to my Warden I get the long loading screen and an eventual "disconnected from server" message.
But, if I log on to my minnie first (which works fine), then log out and then back in on my Warden it is fine. I can replicate this error 100% of the time."
Windows 7 64 bit so the fix posted in this thread is not the issue.
edit: Forgot to mention that on live server the problem has not surfaced. It was only on Bullroarer. My BR client and Live client are on different drives (live is ssd, BR is standard 7200rpm drive) It is still slow though.
Curiously, the evolution of the internet seems inversely proportional to the evolution of man.
My warden can't log directly after U6. I need to log first with one of my other char (RK, Burglar or champ) which are working fine then logout and login with my Warden. If i don't do that i get a lost connection message after a timeout...
Windows 7 64 bit so the fix posted in this thread is not the issue.

I also have windows 7 64 bit and Rings is on my SSD, yet I have this problem. I've never logged my warden onto Bullroarer.
I'm having the same problem. Windows 7, 64-bit. OS and game on SSD. Gilrain server. It's only my Warden, Branth experiencing these issues. My other 8 characters load just fine.
Knight of Iluvatar - Gilrain. Playing LotRO since july 2007.
Another one with the bug. I'm not very patient so I haven't tested this out much, but a couple of times I've gotten stuck on load or gone non-responsive even when switching from another toon.
Win 7 64-bit.
There was some scattered clapping, but most of them were trying to work it out and see if it came to a nerf.
First one's pretty easy to test but I'd like someone (with the specific issue of only getting the connection drop on their warden, and where loading another lower level character first works) to try the clean reinstall to test for corrupt data issues.

Tried both options above, problem not solved. Since my warden is stuck in the moors I will get one of my other characters in the moors, log off then log on and see if I can atleast get him loaded in.

I have 13 characters, 2 of which are Wardens. I can log into my 37 WRD without incident, as well as all 11 of my other characters. My main is a 71 WRD and locks every time unless I load the character switch. Occasionally on a character switch (i.e. shared vault clearing) I lockup coming back onto my main.
Have a Logitech G510 keyboard with the LCD display and my Main stats are displayed at a very low level. I assume that it has loaded the base stats and when it starts loading my traits, gear, etc. to bump my stas up to full, that is where it locks.

Just to rule that out in your case, do you have an alternate keyboard you can try testing with? Or alternately test with LCDCore (it might be LGDCore?) disabled (its the service that handles the LCD loading/unloading of profiles) disabled via task manager while loading?
I'm going to recommend all experiencing this also put in a tech support ticket as well if you haven't already.

Pulled my Saitek Cyborg board, and the mouse, off my other computer. Disabled all Logitech processes and experienced the exact same situation. Big WRD no luck, re-started the launcher and little WRD in different region logged fine, alt hopped back to big WRD worked fine.
For clarification, this is off of a clean wipe and re-install with no add-ons.

Even still I'd be curious to note how many who experience this also have Logitech Keyboards and relating software?
Again though i'm going to stress the need to also have an active support ticket as well, they certainly can get alot more in-depth troubleshooting than can be done on a forums thread.

Same issue here.
Lvl 67 Hobbit female Warden. For me, it doesn't matter if my previously logged in/out character is in the same map area or not, she'll log in fine so long as she's not the first one on. When I do try to log her in first, the game loads over 1.5GB into Ram, then later starts to load down to normal LOTRO levels, and then eventually claims to have lost connection to the servers and boots me out.
I have no Logitech gear at all, my stuff is all either Razer or Microsoft/Razer. I suspect that it is not hardware related (or driver related) since it seems to affect so many players. My suspicions are that it's somehow tied to higher level wardens since someone mentioned they had a lower level warden who could log in just fine. Possibly an issue with the new changes to the Warden skills and perhaps this is only an issue for those of us who had some skills removed due to the level changes on some of the Warden Gambits.
In case it helps:
Windows 7 x64
6 GB Ram
Radeon 4870x2
Razer Barracuda AC-1 audio
Microsoft Reclusa KB
Razer Copperhead mouse
Gigabyte motherboard
Intel Q9300 CPU
I submitted a Tech Support ticket and the requested DXDiag report. So far I have not received a response (other than the automated request for the DXDiag).
Lvl 66 hunter, lvl 40 champion .... both same problem as you said above.Problem with logging, problem when change zone, problem when geting in instance.Every time i need to do some loading i am ready to get black screen with connection to server lost message.I have no problem with low lvl toons and with toons in other servers(low toons too).Actually i had no problems with my champion untill i hit 35(so far i had only some 5-10 sec freezes) and then the nightmare begin.I do disable antivirus, firewall, clean boot, clean reinstall and anything i can but no effect. The only thing left is to get back to XP.I am running 32-bit W7 ,2gig ram, intel core 2 1,8ghz ,GF 9400 GT 1GB DDR2.
So what do you think should i go back to XP?Could be the OS that make that problem because my configuration is low?
Edit: just unlocked a slot for new toon and result is same as other two.All three charrs are in Eldar server.
I want to add also, that my Warden is the only character that, upon log on, has the "Inventory and Items" hint pop up on screen every...single...time I log on regardless of how many times I tell it to "not show this hint in the future"
None of my other characters has this problem.

Just want to reiterate that anyone experiencing this make sure you have put in or are following up on a tech support ticket. That's the best route for troubleshooting this type of an issue.

Make sure you reply to any message that was sent, depending on the options selected when filling out the form you may just receive a confirmation email back but in some instances you may get either a request for more info/suggestion of steps to attempt and on those it indicates to reply directly to the email to update your ticket.

I was referring to a technical support request via the form here not an in-game help request.

I have the same issue with my guardian, logged out in limlight somewhere. Trying to log in on my guard causes my internet to become unresponsive until I power cycle my modem. I can log in my burglar and champion fine (haven't tried the others).
I want to add also, that my Warden is the only character that, upon log on, has the "Inventory and Items" hint pop up on screen every...single...time I log on regardless of how many times I tell it to "not show this hint in the future"
None of my other characters has this problem.
This happens to my warden every single time too. I'm usually able to log into my warden but sometimes it fails to connect and I get the "lost connection to server" error.
The best solution that I can find is as what others have said: log into another character and find the area that your warden is at, then log out and log into your warden. I've been getting the lost connection error constantly now, whereas I use to be able to log into eventually (sometimes took 5 minutes to do so though), but after moving a different character to where my warden was it logs right in. The Inventory and Items help tip finally went away, which I feel might have been caused by the new items we got with the changes to the class quests. If you're getting that tooltip when you log in, try selling off the health potions and the armour piece you got from the quests they changed, and see if the tooltip stops showing up.
