Thread: Quest bugged for me and blocking rest of Wailing Hills quest line

I can't finish one quest in Wailing Hills: A Prisoner to Stangard. Quest log says: Ready to Complete, but Gadda npc is inactive for me so I can't talk with him. I can see a quest ring at my minimap, but there is no ring above Gadda's head.

Most annoying thing with this is that rest of the quests in Wailing Hills are now blocked for me. Atm I'm at 13/20 with Wailing Hills quest deed and no way to continue with them. So I can't get meta deed. I have done all other quests.

I have cancelled the quest and made it 4 times now. Relogged and tried again. Nothing helped.

I made few tickets but GM was unable to help me. One of my kinnies had same kin of problem with a quest in Parth Celebrant. I made also bug report.

Does anyone else have same kind of problems with Update6 quests?

i have exactly the same problem with this quest ,made ticket -GM told me to open bug report ,still waiting for solution

I didn't have that problem yet. All quests in Waling Hills worked fine for me.

What you could try is to cancel the quest and do the quest again but this time together with someone in a fellowship. I had that once that a killing quest didn't count my kills ... but the kills of the other guy in my fellowship counted. (Back in the days in Moria)

The problem for you is that an event is not logged / listed in your advancement log cause it is bugged. But maybe the other fellow has an proper working log and it gets you credit as well.

Thats the only thing i can think of now that you can try.

(Another thing that would work in some cases is to fail the quest (f.e. to let an NPC you have to protect die) and than do it again (without having to cancel it). But I think there is no way to fail the quest here.)

Now I tried to make quest once more and in fellowship with one kinnie. Even that didn't help. He got his quest done without any problems, but quest is still bugged for me. Gadda stays inactive and I can't finish quest. Lame.

I have the exact same problem. Including the ring on the mini map but none above Gadda's head.

@Jan the problem to trying the method you put forth is that there are no mobs to kill. You accept the quest from a rope on the ground and it ports you to a mini instance where all you do is talk to a few NPCs and listen to what they have to say, then you talk to someone and he ports you out to Stangard.
To turn in the quest and get the reward you are asked to talk to Gadda right outside the mead hall, but for us Gadda has no ring above his head and no way to interact with. In effect baring us from any quests that comes after.

A kinmate of mine had the same problem with same quest - he said he can see the quest ring on the minimap, but he cannot interract with this Gadda guy... +1 to the 101 bugs in U6 release I guess.

Indeed. The Wailing Hills quests are all blocked for me following the attempt to complete "A Prisoner to Stangard". Gadda's ring shows on the minimap but cannot interact with his NPC. I've cancelled and retried the quest several times with no change. Guess it needs to be fixed, can't find any way around it. ./sadface

I am having exactly the same problem, and nothing will fix it. This is also preventing me from finishing the quests/deeds in Stangard as I am told the quest line picks back up there once you finish in the Hills.

This is by far the buggiest update I've ever experienced in LOTRO. By far. Bugs like this need to be fixed ASAP, like within the next week, as the sheer number of bugs in U6 is completely unacceptable for an update in a mainstream game.

IMHO - The update with the most defects was U4 - Launch of Rise of Isengard which included the Draigloch instance with all its problems.

Same problem for me with a difference. The quest was completed. I can see a new ring on the minimap for Gadda but this one doesn't appear above his head. So now i'm at 14/20

Any comment from Turbine, if this will be fixed soon ? Hopefully with hotfix that comes Monday. But I'm afraid that it won't happen.

Same here, i send ticket but: In-game support is unable to fix this issue. You will want to submit a bug report.

Got exactly same problem. Was thinking Gadda is confused as I have done the questline where he escapes to Abandoned Farm and now suddenly needs to work in Stangard again.

Unbelivable thing happened. Quest is fixed. I just logged in near Gadda and I could talk with him and finish the quest. I got also follow up. Happy now. That was very strange because earlier today it was still bugged. Thank you Turbine, if you did something to fix it or was it one of the Maiar.

It was server side hang up. Turbine had this issue before. Winter Home for the Winter Fest had a quest like this.

All it required was one player that was in a hurry during the drama sequence. That player clicked the continue button. The NPC locked up. You can mess up a number of NPCs this way. I always let them yabber away until the shut up and stop waving their arms around.

Sometimes similar problems will happen with race conditions and timing issues. You will find some quests where they will lock up. You have to cancel the quest. Start the instance again from the beginning. Hope it doesn't happen again.

I just read this thread, and logged my champ who is also stuck at this quest. I canceled the quest, went back to Dargum and waited until I could click on the rope. I followed through the instance, taking plenty of time to read all responses and allow all NPCs to stop flailing their arms. After I exited the instance, Gadda still did not have a ring for me. I believe there is more to this than a server-side issue and a stubborn NPC. Here is what I've been able to piece together as a kinnie walked through the chain of quests successfully. Please take a look and post if your experience is similar.....

Ok, having said that:


Here is where I think the problem lies. I came into the new area on my champ with the express intention of getting through the Epic chain first to get to the tasty symbol reward. I finished all the quests in Thinglad, some of the quests in Stangard proper, and then followed the epic south to the Brown Lands. I completed almost all quests there, and the Epic up to the 'you've found the falling shadow' quest. At that point the Epic sends you to the different regions to seek out and talk to several NPCs.

I went searching for the NPC in the Wailing Hills, who asked you to check on his goats. Up to this point I had not done any of the Wailing Hills quests, or any Stangard quests that pointed me to the Wailing Hills. As I was floundering around WH looking for my NPC, I found the eagle (to be named later...) who had a quest ring. I picked that up and completed that little chain, including saving his 'relative' from the spider cave.

I went on and completed the rest of the Epic, so that by the time I went back and started working on the quests around the Cuthstan [sp]. I got down to Dargum, ran the Prisoner instance, and could no longer talk to Gadda or complete the quest deed in the Waiting Hills.

A kinnie who has more patience than I worked one of his alts through the quests today and reported no problems. He did all the quests in the area as he worked the epic, and found that the Prisoner chain leads down to the eagle quests that I had completed first.

My suspicion is that the bug lies in the fact that I have already completed quests on that chain before I got to Gadda, therefore he won't talk to me because the end of the chain is done. In my opinion the bug is that we should not have access to the Eagle portion of the quest line in advance of the chain sequence.

Please let me know if this makes sense, and if there are any other ideas for correcting this. I've talked to a GM who was 'unable to assist me' and I've filed a bug on the instance, although at the time I had not yet recreated the path to the problem.

Could be. I completed that chain before doing the bugged chain as well, and I'm standing looking at Gadda with no ring over his head. The quest chains in this new zone are not well connected at all.

EDIT: I also just ran through the mini-instance (for the fifth time) and made sure to let all 3 NPCs who speak go through their entire script, waiting until their words were no longer visible. Didn't help.

I have exactly the same problem. I tried going back to the Abandoned Farm to see if I could complete the quest there since Gadda has more than one location, but Gadda wasn't at the Abandoned Farm any more. Hope this gets fixed soon.

I am also stuck on the ring on the map, no ring over gadda syndrome. I was at least hoping to get a final shot at the uruk hai. "No problem Gadda, I'll take him back to where I found him...." WHACK!

Still bugged for me too

I have exactly the same problem with this quest. NPC Gadda is invisible and when he appears ring is not present on his head. GM can't help, and told me to open bug report. I have made the /bug-report, still waiting for a solution.

Same problem here. I also did the eagle quest line, thinking thats whats causing the issue.

Same issue here. I think we see a different version of Gadda, because we advanced the epic line. OOur gadda doesnt work for this quest. Perhaps this can be fixed easily by making him able to turn in and hand out the quests the other gadda can do?

because I suspected a Phasing Problem, I ported zoned and rod away back multiple times, and out of the sudden the old version of gadda with the quest spawned.

I checked with a GM what happened and created a bug ticket.

I also Have this same bug. I hope it's also affecting why I can't even get a couple Rushgore quests... I've submitted this bug a few days ago. Let's hope for a hot fix soon.

For those like us that have the same problem, please remember to bug it! The more Bug reports they get in the better, also gives them an idea that it's not just one server problem.

I sent the bug report 2 days ago.
Just have to wait now.

Did one of you try to complete others quests of the area to see if it activates the npc ?

I've tried everything that was mentioned, (except for the dieing part, impossible). I've put in tickets, submitted bug reports, and was hoping with the maintenance/updating that it would be fixed. PFT Turbine! How hard is it to reset an npc?

Had this awaiting completion since day 1 so I cancelled & can't remember where I picked it up from. Yeah I know, memory of a goldfish. How do I get it again?

Same problem here. I too submitted a bug report. Maybe if Turbine gets enough bug reports they will fix it before ROI.

Yea, finished every quest except the dailies came back to gadda, no quest ring, canceled quest and did it again no gadda with quest ring.

FIX THIS TURBINE.

Same problem here. I completed Stangard before doing the Wailing Hills so now I too am stuck.

I've submitted bug report so hopefully they'll see it's a wide spread issue.
