Quest Instance Revolt in the Deeps seems impossible
OK, hunter is just an alt of mine, so I'm not claiming to be real good with the class, but this instance (The escape from Pit Of Iron instance) feels impossible.
I'm 75 with quest gear, so I figure I should be able to do a 1-level-under-me "solo" quest, right? WRONG
I'm escorting 3 idiot npcs with fairly good morale. But the mobs hit SO HARD and there's SO MANY. I can't let them tank and burn the waves down one at a time, because they die and I fail. I can't get aggro because they burn through my paper armor in seconds. I can't heal them at all, obviously. And despite the fact that the action stops every so often, the NPCs have ZERO health regen, and dropping campfire doesn't help. So I'm left with attempting to CC the mobs away, but the STUPID npcs go run after CC'd mobs instead of fighting the mobs they are already fighting.
What the heck am I supposed to be doing here?

Reason: edit for clarity of quest zone
Re: Quest Instance Revolt in the Deeps seems impossible
There are only 3 mobs at a time until the final pull. If you want a tip... get up to the point where you are just about at that last 5 mob pull and don't talk to the Dwarf to continue. Go on ahead on your own. Place a trap... then a set of Triple Traps (4 traps total). Full Focus... Rain of Thorns... burn down 1 or 2 of the Normal mobs, then finish the last three. I did it this way and then went back to talk to the NPC. They were able to leave without even fighting that last pull. Otherwise just peel one or 2 at a time off of them. Use you Stuns, Dazes, Roots, etc. whenever you can.
EDIT: To reiterate... it took me about 2 tries before I did it the way that I just described (going ahead and killing them before the silly and useless npcs came along). Just use all your skills that you've got. Not everything is pew-pew-pew. Little CC, a little agro management, lot of dps, and it should be easy enough.

That last fight strategy seems like a winner, but to be clear, you are incorrect about the max # being 3. They all have secondary waves that increase the # of mobs.
Re: Quest Instance Revolt in the Deeps seems impossible
Med Armour is paper the only answer is what virtues you stack and how many levels do you have. I felt worthless and couldn't even take 2 onlevels at once without potting till I got my physical mitigation above 3.5K. You will struggle doing any near level quests over 70 without getting your mitigation up. You will still face issues with lvl 75 signatures in the ring of Isengard as they can on occasion combine a breach armour with a devastate and take 3k of your morale in that 1 hit. I recommend getting agi over 1.2K, mitigations over 3.5K , and morale at least 6K if you want to be able to be effective in the 70's. As a note I tried that quest and failed it because I had no idea what I was suppose to do as there is no quest guide and the quest said talk to the dwarf and I had no idea I was supposed to follow them to the dwarf. However , I was already 75 and had done the quest deed so I said forget it. Beyond that I am like there is an army down the street shouldn't I go get them and we can just wipe the place or something.
WARNING: leveling a warden may cause you to neglect your other characters.

Yeah I just remembered a couple of waves with secondary mobs. Even still, running ahead could be the winner. Even before you go up the first set of ramps I think you can run ahead and kill some pathers. I am not sure if that Captain along the walkway is there or not if you run ahead... could be worth looking. Just run ahead and kill as much as you can (including that stupid glow worm thing at the start) before talking to the Dwarf. It'll take longer this way but it should make it easier.

lol you gotta wonder eh? Hmm... encampment with hundreds of Rohirrim about 2km away... why wouldn't I just go get some of them to come help? Some of the quests really make me wonder... especially delivery quests where an NPC makes you run something down the street for them, and then once the quest ends the NPC goes running off down the street. lol.
Re: Quest Instance Revolt in the Deeps seems impossible
Eat food to increase your out of combat regen and beat the npcs to the mobs. That's what I did. I tried to stay ahead of npcs, engage the mobs, low cut ---> range em down and rinse and repeat. NPCs didn't get hit once. As long as you have level and class appropriate gear, shouldn't be a problem. I don't remember having a single problem with this, and I was still lvl 72 when I did it.
Re: Quest Instance Revolt in the Deeps seems impossible
I only got around to finishing this recently. By that time I had a couple of second agers and 1800 AG. Had no problems at all with this (in 5 blue precison, fleet) - just ran ahead and spammed Rain of Arrows on everything. Anything that got through was quickly finished off with penetrating shot. And for the first time in the game Split Shot was actually useful to finish off 2 at once.

I haven't really found a good instance where I've needed to use Split Shot other then being bored of not using it. Ha ha. I could see how it would be useful if you wanted to pull 2 mobs at the same time that were next to one another.

Yea. Two weakened mobs on an npc or me and it was useful. But like you, most of the time I use it it's just out of curiosity. 99% of the time the bunched targets will have split up before it goes off. Still a completely useless skill that needs radical work or preferably replacing.
Re: Quest Instance Revolt in the Deeps seems impossible
So that the NPC-s do not regenerate health is normal? Because that's what causing my wife problems with her burglar. She has tried the quest several times and thought that it was bug, since all other NPC-s regenerate out of combat.
Re: Quest Instance Revolt in the Deeps seems impossible
Further to some posters above, USE CC. Until the last pull you don't get more than 3 at once. Draw some aggro off your friends, and wait for them to regenerate when they get to each safe point. Aed's CC suggestion - fear the big signature, wait for him to run away, rain of arrows spam the little ones - they die, big one comes back, dazing blow him and let your friends take him out.
I found the Daring Assault or whatever it's called - the instance where Theodred raids Orthanc before Battle of the Fords of Isen - *much* harder until I realised all I had to do was run away and let grimbold the bad-a$$ tank.
Re: Quest Instance Revolt in the Deeps seems impossible
I think it has been suggested above, but lost in the crowd control advice.
I found the trick is to leave your brave band of heros with gold rings over their heads. Move forwards and clear the ramp up to the Smelters all by yourself.
I seem to recall it's two orcs and two goblins so put down triple traps and use rain of thorns. You take a bit of a pounding but you can heal up after.
It saves just enough damage on the three prisoners to let you get them through the rest of the escape.
And you think it's annoying that they don't regen, they are also immune to healing skills.
Re: Quest Instance Revolt in the Deeps seems impossible
I just finished the quest and what I did was I used ROT and then dragged the ones that chased me (if you do the far right guy you only root 2) back down to ondor and the others, then talked to them, by the time we had killed those following us, the rest came down and it was an easy killing. Just make sure you fall down the cliff and break your legs so you have enough time to prepare for the first 3 (or 1 depending on which mod you used ROT) to come down the long way after you
Just to clarify a little bit, not that it helps Hunters any, sadly. The NPC's are not immune to healing skills. I am part way through this with my RK healer at present and you can heal them - whether they ignore AoE heals is a different matter (too busy in combat to tell ).
You can tell that I searched for some help that this quest was a bit of a shock tho'

Hi Lazlo,
Just finished it today with my Hunter-- quest gear only
Here's how:
1. Set a trap
2. Focus Bow
3. Rain of Thorns
4. Focused all attacks on the Orc leader
Leader gets iced, attacker is trapped. Pick out the remaining 3 Orcs, and all is well.
