    Expansions Expansion.....

    Hi All.

Im new to LOTRO. At the minute I have just downloaded the client offof the website and am playing as a F2P player.

My original intention was to play as a f2p player and buy the odd expansion pack with deed earned TP or buy paying a little money as I probably wouldnt be playing enough to make VIP status worth while.

Since then ( today ) I have discovered you can buy hard copies of the expansion packs.

    My questions are:

Are the hard copy expansion packs cheaper/more expensive than paying for them using TP.

There are so many differing expansion packs Im not sure which is best and which works out best value. Please could someone advise?
    I have found the following.

    Mitrhil Edition - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lord-The-Rin...0699256&sr=8-1
    Shadows of Angmar - http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Lord-Rin...0699256&sr=8-2
    Mines of moria - http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Lord-Rin...0699256&sr=8-3
    Volume 1 & 2 compilation - http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Lord-Rin...0699256&sr=8-4

Please help me to understand all these different editions. Or if buying hard copies is a nono and I should be buying through the store please englighten me as to the order I should be buying the expansions and a rough price.

    I found this http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.p...10#post5778210

From looking at this it seems if i get the mithril edition I should be able to generate enough tp working through those zones to buy 1 or 2 of the other expansion packs?

    Cheers

    Ug

    Greetings,

Welcome to LOTRO! I would recommend taking a look at the "Answers to Your Questions" link in my signature-- it should help a bit.

    1. The Mithril Edition is probably the best value. It includes quest packs for low-level toons, a horse for your characters, Turbine Points (the currency for the in-game store), and other goodies.
    2. Shadows of Angmar only includes VIP time, and only if you haven't purchased VIP before. I would skip it-- I personally don't think it's a good value. It includes no quest packs.
    3. Mines of Moria is a great expansion, but you linked to the Codemasters version. Codemasters no longer supports LOTRO, and (as far as I'm aware), that version is meaningless. If you can find the version created by Turbine, though, it's a great buy.
    4. The Compilation Pack is also produced by Codemasters. Skip it. If it says Codemasters, it can no longer be used-- Codemasters no longer supports LOTRO.

    Re: Expansions Expansion.....

Im thinking im going to get the mithril edition. I have one more question.

I understand f2p and VIP account types. But how do I become premium? and what are the advantages to premium?

Also is the only way to buy rise of isengard legendary edition via the lotro store? Or can I get a hard copy. Just wanting to know roughly how much isengard would be in uk sterling as an alternative to mithril.....

You become premium by spending any amount of real money. For the benefits, read the Answers to your Questions thread already mentioned.

    Isengard is only available digitally.

    1. For the differences, I'd recommend checking the thread in my signature. It should outline it pretty clearly. Let me know if you have questions after looking.

    2. As far as I know, the legendary edition is only available via the Turbine Web Store. I don't actually know if it's available via the LOTRO Store (the in-game store you use Turbine Points for), although it may be.

    Re: Expansions Expansion.....

I would recommend rolling several toons getting close to level 20 or so to know what class race combat type you really enjoy
all tp earned goes into an account wide pool by the way so usable by whatever Nain and alts you decide to keep playing.
I also recommend getting VIP at least for a month or through the MoM expansion ... MoM gives 1 month free ViP two extra character slots and the Advanced classes of RuneKeeper and Warden.
Your VIP will unlock many benifits such as Swift Travel, 5 Storage Bags, Removes Gold Cap, Unlocks all Traits that will open at the correct level, and Auction House slots. You will keep all of this when going back to Premium.

    and definetly read.....

DO NOT BUY ANY OF THESE EXCEPT THE MITHRIL EDITION.

As they are all listed on amazon.co.uk, the others are almost certainly old Codemasters product which will not work and will be a complete waste of money.

The Mithril Edition is a new packaging of the content and will work.

This is correct. Don't buy anything that has the Codemasters logo on it, because it won't work.

Only the Mithril Edition will work.

One thing about hard copies, they can decrease your download time if you don't already have Lotro installed; this applies mostly to the Mithril edition as it's fairly current and should have fewer updates to apply afterwards.

Since you're already downloading you will have the most current version installed and you won't need to install again from the disc; instead, apply the key from the package to your account to get all the benefits from the purchase.

The game that you log in to is complete, it has everything in it. Your access to anything is based upon your account settings, whether you're VIP, premium, f2p, quest packs purchased, account unlocks, etc.

Actually, this applies ONLY to the Mithril Edition. Any other hard copies you find will be 4 or 5 years old and will probably make your download and patch time LONGER than if you used no disc at all.

If you can find a non-Codemasters version of Moria, it would be a great deal. It gives you Moria and 1 month VIP for around $20. Make sure to create as many characters as you think you will play during your VIP month to get the free traits and riding skill, and the other perks. You'll also have the TP to buy another zone, Evendim is a good choice. That'll get you all the way to Moria, which you now have too.

Only the physical box copy of Mines of Moria includes the month of VIP time. The version sold for TP through the in-game LOTRO Store does not. (But as several people have already mentioned, if buying a box copy you need to make sure it's a Turbine box and not a Codemaster's box.)

The other extras (rune-keeper and warden classes, character slots, etc) come with either the boxed version or the full expansion bought through the LOTRO Store, but NOT with the quest pack sold through the LOTRO Store or included in the Legendary Edition of Rise of Isengard and the Mithril Edition. (If you get the quest pack through one of those purchases, you can still get the extra classes and character slots sold separately through the LOTRO Store.)

Anyone who has ever spent money on the game is at least Premium. So if you buy a box copy of the game or an expansion, you're Premium. If you've been VIP before (but aren't any more), you're Premium. If you've purchased Turbine Points for cash, you're Premium, etc.

Neither one. There are no hard copies of Isengard, and although the LOTRO Store has Rise of Isengard, it does not have the Legendary Edition of it. The Legendary Edition can only be purchased online from http://isengard.lotro.com/. (Once you purchase it, you'll be emailed a key to enter into your Turbine account, unlocking the content. There's no physical items mailed to you as there is with the Mithril Edition.)

Rise of Isengard Legendary Edition: £39.99
Rise of Isengard Heroic Edition: £29.99
Rise of Isengard Base Edition: £22.99

    Or through the LOTRO Store:
    Isengard expansion: 4995 TP
    Isengard quest pack: 3250 TP

Any of the online Rise of Isengard cash purchases (Legendary, Heroic, or Base Editions) are the full expansion (equivalent to the 4995 TP Store version) plus extras. In the case of the Legendary Editon, it's a lot of extras, including a bunch of extra quest packs, making it a really good deal if you don't already have those quest packs.

    Re: Expansions Expansion.....

    Hi Guys,

I've just come across this thread by searching for answers myself. I'm now a VIP player and will eventually need to buy expansions, I've got a mines of moria one here with me from the past, and what everyone says is right, they are useless and don't work, shame!! Anyway,

Am I right in saying that I get things in this order

Mithiril Edition - (has quest packs like previous mines of moria and siege of mirkwood, included???)

    then

    Rise of Isengard

    then

Riders of Rohan (when it's out of course)

Let me know if I'm wrong anyway - many thanks guys

    Re: Expansions Expansion.....

If you meant you already have Moria as part of your account, it will still work normally. But if you mean you have an unused Codemasters MoM box with key, then yes it will no longer work (but a Turbine-released MoM key will still work).

In order of levels, the correct route is Moria - Mirkwood - Isengard (and eventually Rohan). The earliest expansion content starts at lvl 50 with Moria, so unless you are close to that you've no hurry to get the expansions.
