Thread: PremiumWallet - Barter items in wallet, finally!

For someone with only one level cap character (there are plenty of such ppl, myself included), an ability to convert unused barter items to marks/medallions and maybe even seals (how about 3 seals for one nimrodel token. I got around 5 in my bank) would be more than welcome instead of premium barter wallet.
I understand altoholics will probably buy it but if it has to be in the store, VIPs should get a discount. If lotro has the ability to track for how long one had a subscription, they could introduce something known in Star Trek online as "Veteran Rewards". People who are subscribed long enough get special rewards each 100 days of active subscription. Premium wallet could be such veteran reward.

Please visit the store and for 2000 TP you may start your advancement to level 77.

This is the new trend. Take the Skirmish Soldier on the landscape feature, it will cost you 100 TP per hour to utilize that. (Of course that price may go up or down when U6 goes live)

This is essentially requiring VIPs to pay for Premium game functionality, not for basic.
It is still not right IMO, VIPs should at least get 50% descount if not free such Premium and VIP functionalities. Thets why they are called VIPs after all...

Simply slapping on the Title of Premium doesn't make a product or service 'Premiium'. The barter wallet was supposed to include your barter items when it was implemented. Now Turbine has decided to finally finish a feature that was incomplete and charge for it. I can guess what I'd say if one of my employees came to me and said "I didn't finish my work but you need to pay me more anyway"... Right.....

I'm not going to buy it, unless I can get enough from my monthly stipend to do so. I don't see that happening anytime soon though, it takes all my stipend just to get close to playing the game like I used to...

I'm ok with it costing TP. I believe this sort of thing, and in general allowing more items to be stored per account, is something they were hesitant to do before because it's more of a strain on the servers. I'd be more than happy to compensate Turbine a bit for something like this.

The barter items are already being stored on the server, in the vaults, Shared Storage, bags, etc so how would that be more of a strain on the server?

You would have items replacing their slots in your bags and vaults while retaining the barter items.

Agreed. Most probably it's just the matter of moving objects from one table in the database to another. Nothing serious.

I think the price will fall a bit.

I may be an anomaly here, but I have no issues with this costing TP, even for VIP folks, and I speak as a VIP.

Frankly, for the game play value I get as a VIP, and the sheer volume of TP I've accumulated and never spent, I can't fathom why this would really be an issue. I think I'm sitting somewhere north of 12k Turbine Points, as I never find anything worth spending points on, since the content is pretty much all available as a VIP. Why the issue with something thats a convenience and not a necessity being given a charge in TP?

I know there are VIP folks who feel entitled to things like this, but if you don't want to pay, they aren't taking the barter tokens away, they are giving you a more convenient way to access and store them.

Well they got a lot of us the pay for a broken Raid that was originally going to be free so they probably figured, 'what the hell'.

I think the issues are more:

a) people see this as a "fix" to the barter wallet rather than a new feature (even though nothing was said about when or how it would happen, when the wallet first launched, it was mentioned that more of the old items would be added as time went on)

b) people feel the value of a VIP subscription is being eroded (I can see the point here, but I also think Turbine is up against a wall for the moment since many of the features of VIP remain unlocked even when you drop to Premium, so people sub for one month and that's all)

If the barter wallet were just being introduced for the first time now, I think it would get much more praise. It is having lived with it in a semi-realized state for a year and a half that leads to dismay when we are asked to pay for the upgrade.

For the record, I was not happy with this when I first saw the 995 TP price tag. Having thought it over and considered the options that might be available to Turbine, though, I don't have as much of an issue with it. I'd still like to see VIP gain back some of the perk ground it has ceded, but we don't know what things will look like once Rohan launches, so I'm willing to see what happens.

You mean something like getting 500 TP each 30 days?

My own view is that if people want to buy it they can, and Turbine make a little extra money out of update 6 which is good for the game in general.

Also a lot of people on this thread are confusing paying real money and exchanging TPs. As a ViP I earn 500 TPs a month, on top of this I earn plenty from deeds etc in game. If you are desperate for this wallet but don't want to 'pay' just save this month's 500, and get your toons deeded up to 14. This combined with what you already have plus some extra deeding and it really won't take long to get this wallet.

I understand that people get upset when Turbine look to make some money from the game, but frankly noone is forced to pay real money for this.

Personally if I have enough TP come update 6 I will get the wallet, if I don't I'll prob buy a few points to get it. For my money this patch looks well worth a small outlay in support of one of my favourite games ^^ .

Alright...now I see the pattern.

• Add a barely functional mechanic to the game.
• Promise that it will be more functional in the future, and it will do more things (when they introduced the barter wallet, we were told what we had was a beta version, and it would eventually hold all the various sorts of "currency")
• Ignore the mechanic you've just added for a few years, claiming that you are trying to fix it, but it's not on the priority list.
• Introduce the version of it that you originally intended, and charge Turbine Points for an upgrade.

So what's next? Premium instance finder? Premium houses with movable hooks? Come on folks, list them here. We've been asking for a lot of stuff to get "fixed" over the years, let's watch as it all appears in the store.

Oh wait, I've got a GREAT one! Premium forums! Just pay 5k TP, and your character stats will up-date!

In STO, you also get 400CP for being subscribed or a Lifer every month, in addition to the 100 day vet rewards (which are very nice in their own right).

Vet rewards are very common in MMOs, Star Wars Galaxies had them for every 90 days, some of which were unique and fantastic like a device that allowed you to land at your house when you were in space. I'm really surprised LOTRO doesn't have vet rewards. But in their absence, it would be nice if being a VIP was the best way to play the game and really gave you value over a premium account. Right now, most players can sub a month and never pay a sub again, without really losing anything if they are at endgame and aren't altoholics.

Exactly! From day one of introducing the Barter Wallet they claimed that they had plans to add more items to it and make it a useful system. Years later they finally get around to the promised fixes and decide to charge us for it? If it were a new system and promises weren't made, then sure, sell it as a new premium system. This is just another over-reaching cash grab.

My thoughts are all over the place on this one. As a paying month to month sub I'd be freakin PO'd. If you are trying to play this FTP then I have no pity for you. As a founder I am seeing the shift from "What am I gonna do with all these points?" to "Wow, where are all my points goin?".


This will probably be on my buy if it goes on sale list but will live without it for as long as possible. For the tokens that are account binding you can create a mule and store them all on him already.

There seems to be overlap with shared storage functionality? Aren't all those tokens that you say you can store with the premium wallet already able to be transferred to your alts if you have shared storage?

I never bothered with shared storage, because I stopped playing my alts. I would want to understand what each can do before I bought either the premium wallet or shared storage.

Lifetime player here and this is exactly the kind of items they can and should add to the store imo. I will gladly pay the 1000 tp for this and I hope store only items keep being things like this rather then more relic removal scrolls items ( thank you for making those drop in game ).

This kind of wallet is a standard feature in all the other MMOs I've played, so I think it's very unfair for Turbine to charge for it knowing full well that it'll be something that everyone really wants and something everyone reluctantly pays for.

I do love this game, but things like this leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

Here's my 2 coppers:

The ability to add all barter currencies to the wallet should be basic functionality.
The ability to share it between characters is justifiable as an extra purchase.

If I understand what's actually happening our current marks/meds/seals are going into an account wide shared wallet and we can pay TP to upgrade this to accept other barter tokens and make them account wide also. I don't particularly approve of this approach, although it makes things much easier for me. Some people enjoy leveling their characters completely separate and won't appreciate a fundamental currency like marks/meds/seals being account-wide.

We definitely need some of that clearer communication they were talking about and we need it before things go live on BR.

I will buy it, but I think it's pretty bad to be selling basic game functionality to people who are paying a sub (or have a lifetime).

No, the default new wallet will hold the same as it does now: Marks, Medallions and Seals, but these will become account-wide.

The 'Premium' wallet will also hold Reputation, Instance, Festival tokens etc., of which some (the instance tokens) are bound-to-account at the moment. These stay bound-to-account/bound-to-character as they are.

What amazes me at this forum, are people defending every Turbines try to nicle-dime their customers, by saying they need money, like they are some beggars or what. Turbine stated how much they increased they profit after F2P, yet it seems like they will probably go bankrupt if they give us basic (whats premium on creating x number of curencies which takes space in players bag and then sell "solution" to it?) feature for free (whats the point of VIP anyway?). Next time we will pay for patch, so Turbine will not loose money?

I pay to play here. They give me 500 tps a month. If I subscribe for two months, the "enhanced" wallet is pretty much free. I don't pay for the tps, I pay for the game. While my feelings on the wallet are not going to be stated, my feelings on vip/lifers getting a discount are plain: We don't need one.

I haven't had to pay my tps for zones yet. I don't raid much (so I really don't need the perks from the store). The tps are just basically sitting there, gathering mold and digital dust. While I may not agree with their choice, I have to agree that it is not hurting the vip/lifers. I do feel for the free/prem players though.



(Disclaimer: I do not pay so I can be better than anyone, get a free ride or just for the tps, I pay for two reasons. 1: I love this game. I want to give them a small amount of money a month for what fun I get from it. 2: I am used to paying for my online gaming, transferred from another game over a year ago and it's just habit. I don't feel the sting of my wallet, as the money was 'already gone'.)

Dont want to argue with you, but this old, they give me free 500 TP again. Its part of subscribtion, its not free, in every other P2P game, save last trend of microtransactions even in them, subscriber get acces to everything, every item, etc. In LOTRO even VIP must pay for some items even when they are fluff, or not (relic removal scroll) so this is just small compensation in my eyes. One thing, im not even VIP, but this seems like rip-off to me.

It's all good, I understand your position. My post was purely opinion. I don't even think about tps while I am playing. I bought a goat when I was leveled enough for Moria, extra character slots, warden and rk and the shared storage upgrades. Aside from that, the tps just sit there for me. I guess I view it like the free mints on the pillow in a hotel. OoO nice. A mint *nom*. But hey, like I said, I have no problem playing the fool and seeing it as a nifty plus instead of the main goal.


EDIT: Actually, I view it as "buy 5 coffees, get the 6th one free. In all actuality, I did pay for that 'free' coffee, but I was going to buy the first 5 anyhow. Yeah... coffee and mints. Or scones.. yeah..... scones.

The way I see it is that I just got a vault upgrade for every one of my toons and a shared storage upgrade for a little over the cost of a vault upgrade for 1 character. Seems like a really good deal to me. I am a VIP and I plan to buy this as soon as U6 goes live.

There are plenty of people who spend more than 500 TPs/month. That's what, 1 Delving scroll and 1 Empowerment scroll every month?

I am VIP and regularly buy and spend TP for convenience items. I do not mind this being a purchase even for VIPs, that makes sense to me, but 2K TP would feel like a money grab and make me grouchy. 1K feels like a good deal and makes me happy, and more likely to spend more points on other things while the store window is open. This way they will get me to happily spend 1k-1500TP instead of grouchily spending zero.

995 seems pretty darn steep considering I already pay a subscription. I thought this was the exact reason behind the VIP subscription, to aviod having to make nickle-and-dime purchases like this.

That being said, I really want this.

Thread stater shoots himself in the foot with this. I see he has over 150.000 points to spend, so he should really not complain one bit. He should be lucky there's finally something to spend those points on; points are there to be used.

That said, I think 995 really is too much for this which should have been added IN THE FIRST PLACE, when the Barter Wallet was introduced. It's like having us pay for a "mistake" they made.

Oh, and one more thing. Why are Seals placed at the bottom? It would make more sense for them to be after Medallions. Fix it.

Hi,

not sure what the "Enhance Currency" button at the bottom of the Enhanced Barter Wallet does.
Did someone already tried? Is it allowing to upgrade medalions to seals etc.?
It's wearing this nice "Store" TP coin at the button, so I gues whatever can be "enhanced" costs extra TP.
