Upgrading to new legendary properly, from a lvl 70

    Hi,
I've had my old legendary item for a while an maxed it out all the way to a lvl 70. So I can't actually deconstruct it?
I wish to upgrade now, have a new LI - but want to retrieve all the gems and setting on the original, and then trash it properly, so I can keep slot 1 open for my new one with the retrieved gems/settings/runes applied, etc...

How does this work properly? Please advise - I'm a champ, so it's a matter of life and (frequently) death :-)

    Cheers,

If I understand you correctly, you can deconstruct a lvl 70 LI, but you cannot take out the settings etc. When it is deconstructed, you will receive an IXP rune, possibly a LP refund scroll, legendary fragments, and a bunch of settings, runes, and gems. If you remove the settings and whatnot from a LI, they will be destroyed (same if your replacing them), but you can purchase a removal scroll from the store.

You could be lucky and get the settings, runes, and gems that you used in the refore, as long as they're not the "special" ones.

Thanks for the post...thing was, when I checked with the forge/relic master - I did not get the option to deconsruct my old LI? Maybe I'm doing something wrong...should I be 'unlocking' the weapon or something? It's been a while since I did this last...

At the Relic Master look for the option check box to "Display locked items". Then click on the padlock to unlock it and enable deconstruction.
Confused about the F2P/Premium/VIP account types? This post may help.

If you have it equipped, you also won't see it. So, when you visit the relic-master, make sure the old legendary is in your inventory (not equipped), and that the relic-master display is set to "show locked items".

You CAN remove the relics -- but this requires TP. Open up the Turbine Store and search for "relic removal scroll". Depending on how high-tier your relics are, this may or may not be worth the TP expense, but the option is there if you want it.

Isn't there a Relic Removal Scroll available from the skirmish vendor? I've never checked because I am lazy. I believe you can buy all the other types of scrolls there, so I assume you can get one of those also. I may be wrong though ...

"I have my fears, but they do not have me." ... "And the monster I was so afraid of, lies curled up on the floor."
    -Peter Gabriel- "Darkness"

Ignorance is bestowed on us at birth, but we don't have to keep it.
    -Lorin Fast- "Random ramblings"

Will the Crafts on the sigs ever get updated?

No, the only way to get a relic removal scroll is to buy it from the LOTRO store, and the scroll does not remove crafted relics (you cannot do anything to recover a crafted relic after you slot it on an LI, you have to make another one).

Back to the OP. As others have pointed out, you cannot deconstruct an LI that you have equipped (it's in a weapon or class item slot on youir main character panel). You'll have to drag it into one of your inventory bags before you can deconstruct it and it will be "locked" in your inventory so you'll have to unlock it before you can deconstruct it as well.
