Thread: Mount Loterry fail

A week or 2 ago I purchased myself a very nice looking steed, Steed of the Hunter, for my hunter. I'm perfectly happy with it, it has a nice morale, good speed (though I wouldn't mind a bit of an increase) and nice looks too.

Now, as any other LOTRO player, I sometimes join the lottery. I don't ussually look what the price is (unless I'm told that there is a Symbol on the lottery hehe) but just blindly sign up all my characters for it. Today I signed up for a lottery that awards a Steed of the Hunter (See where I'm getting at?).

Naturally.. With my luck, I win the steed. But... I already have it.. What now?

I'd very much like to trade the steed for something else if that's possible. I have already made a ticket but I got a response saying that I should make such a request here so here it is.

If it's possible for me to trade the steed for something else then here is my wishlist:

1. Clasp
2. Worn symbol of the elder king

Hell.. I can try right? :P

3. 70-?? lootbox
4. Green skeleton steed

Or if that's not possible, is it possible to transfer the mount to a friend of mine, Laineth? She is on the same server as me.

PS. Things like this make me really consider whether or not I should spent money on this game again in the future. I could just as well join the lottery and hope for the best otherwise..

Orly? Didn't know that yet. =/ That's why I made this thread silly. :P What I want to know or what I'm asking for is something else nstead of the mount since I already have it cause I BOUGHT it from the store. Which for me now is more like a stupid mistake rather than a good 'investment' which I might make again for some other stuff in the store, if this thing get's solved.

See this is why you take the extra 60 seconds and don't enter characters in lotteries that give things you already have on that character. Live and learn.

So basically because I took the opportunity to make an investment in this game and in my character I'm not allowed to play the lottery when things like this are in it? I don't think that's fair. There should be an alternative price for people. A choice box maybe, like when u deconstruct a legendary that's over level 30, you get to chose wether you want the mount or something else.

I didn't say don't enter the lottery, I said don't enter the lottery on THAT character. Now if you only have one character, highly unlikely at best, you have some sort of grounds for thinking this way, but since 99.9 percent of us have more 5 and less than 14 characters not being able to enter ONE lottery of many on ONE character of MANY doesn't seem inconvenient to me, or unfair.

I appreciate you being so polite all ways on this, but must support Kyra T here. Basically I see it this way: it is like me going off and buying myself a sports car and then winnning the same car in a lottery. And I say "but I already have that cr can't you give me a lamborghini instead? I would suggest that after you take that (in my opinion awesome) choice to buy the steed, just don't enter a contest to win that steed. Because it may just be that this lottery was meant to give those who cannot buy the horse a chance to receive one. Just a thought....

Actually the lottery is misnamed it is a raffle just the ticket to enter is free.....

A raffle you know what the prize is in advance and your chances of winning change based on the number of entries.

It is wise to make sure the Prize is not something you already have if it is bound to character so you do not feel disappointed if you win something your not able to use.

Thats not saying do not enter the Lotteries it is saying enter the apropriate ones only...if everyone did that it increases the chance of those that really need want can use the pize a better chance to win it.

It also does not mean stop buying anything in store you really need or want as not everything in the store will be given as a prize in a lottery nor are chances of winning any specific prize really all that great.

Lotteris are a game of chance meant to add a little fun side Game to the forums and community they are completely free and should be appreciated for what they are.
They are Turbines way of saying Thank You here is a little something extra hope you have fun.

Now what would be real nice and has been suggested many times is that Mounts be account bound until opened to a skill....
that would make it so if won in lottery or found in treasure hunt you could send it to a Toon that needed it.

The odds of winning a lottery for a mount are extremely small, planning on winning a lottery for one? Don't hold your breath. Lotteries are a gift you have no entitlement to redeem the prize for something else. Another way of looking at it would be to blame you for entering a lottery on a character who could not use it, thus denying someone else.

I was very fortunate to win 2 steeds this month.

When the same steeds came around in the lotteries again I was careful to uncheck those characters who had already won them as they would be useless if won by the same characters again. The purpose of this is twofold

1) Gives other people and my own other alts a slightly better chance of winning that mount that they CAN use

2) Doesn't give me the same bad feelings that the OP is experiencing

I've never store bought a steed but if I had I would not enter the alt I got it for into any lottery with the same steed as a prize.

Why? There are plenty of lotteries. You already had that item, give someone else a chance at winning in this lottery. Effectively, all you did was make sure someone who did not have the horse didn't win it.

Plus, lets say you hadn't bought the horse, but won it instead. If the same lottery comes up, you are saying you should be able to enter anyway and just pick your prize? How would you feel if someone else did that to your chances of winning?

Of course you are allowed, but it would be unwise because you already own it.

You knew the prize would be that horse and you knew you already have it. And still you decided to participate which you were allowed to do. But why did you do it? You knew that your char already owned it so winning was no gain.
You knew and still decided to participate and now you complain ... good job

There already is a alternative ... you see on the screen what you can win. so chose another lottery to participate in.

The same issue happened to those who went to the treasure hunt last weekend, and got several of the same kind of mount (which happened quite often) until they managed to find the one that they actually wanted. The difference is: they didn't pay for the mount (if they didn't buy the pick axes for the treasure hunt) but invested their time.

I would like to be able to transfer the additional two treasure laden ponies that I dug up from my dwarf to another character; but this would probably have an unwanted effect on the economy. Imagine people running there and camping the place (camping means do everything to drive any competition away, even by griefing) to get the horses and make money by selling them to other players. This scenario isn't one that I want to see, so I stay quiet and will keep the mounts in the warehouse.

How hard is it to take a little extra time to read the lotteries before you enter? I don't think that is asking much of each person who enters these.

Dude, its awesome that you won that lottery. It keeps the value of the one you bought higher. The less of these mounts in existence the more unique and valuable yours is. You should be happy. And didn't it net you a few silver when you vendered it? Seems like a win-win to me.

You cannot vendor these mounts.

The whole point of this thread is to cry because you won something you know you had a chance to win although you already owned it. then you comment on how this makes you reconsider spending money on the game again???

I guess you dont understand how a lottery / raffle works but as others have already said it I will not reitterate it here.

This is not a Mount Lottery Fail but a Player Fail.

I think everyone in this thread that had to explain to you why you shouldn't be able to get another free gift or transfer your bound to charecter prize should get the rewards you asked for.
