Hi, I am new to the forums, but I have been playing lotro for awhile. I came up whith this suggestion.
Turtles as combat pets.
They could be a guardian type pet whith high morale and defense, and meduim attack. they could have a knockback skill,
an aggro attracting skill and a dameging skill. it could be in the level 40 range because you don't get another pet in that range.
I think it would help keep lore-masters interested in the game, getting them to higher levels and helping them spend more money.
Well, that's not beyond the bounds of reason. Most of the turtles we've encountered are not creatures of evil, bound to Sauron (which we cannot have as pets), but just wild animals looking for something to eat, such as us.
When we get to the Nindalf and the Dead Marshes, as I assume we eventually will do, that would be a good time to bring them out.
Sounds good to me, atm the current tank pet (the bear) is still a bit squishy and functions more as a debuffer and 'emergency' tank. To have a proper tank pet that could hold agro, prevent the lore master getting killed AND not die themselves would be a nice edition to the game.
I would love a baby dragon as socialising pet... just like the little babydragon fireplace thingy...

You just explained why I never use the stupid bear.
LOL... There's already a bunny pet too. Again, non-combat.
Notes: A non-combat pet will take the spot of a combat pet when summoned. Type the command "/pet release" to release a non-combat pet.
Hare: Complete Friend of the Wild quest series
Turtle: Mathom House reputation vendor (Ally status)
Sparrow: Elves of Rivendell reputation vendor (Kindred status)
Cat: loot drop
Dog: loot drop
Fox: loot drop
Snake: loot drop
Squirrel: loot drop
Frog: loot drop
(Loot drops are from mobs 45+ and I believe the mobs need to be humanoid)

Sorry, but this isn't true. You can get the Eagle at level 45. It's a legendary pet and takes up a legendary trait slot, but it is there, it's available and it's in the level 40+ range.
Apart from that I do use my Eagle as a tank when I solo. With the +aggro legacy on my book LI the Eagle can hold one, two or even three mobs quite effectively, especially with a well-timed Beak Rend (minor aoe attack with self-heal for the pet) thrown into the mix every now and then. Plus the Eagle takes little to no healing. Enemies simply seem to have difficulties when they try to hit it.
I'm not against a new pet on principle, I just think it should come at a higher level than the current pets, somewhere in the soon-to-be-added Rohan levels.

Sorry, but all dragons are off-bounds as allies/pets for the Free Peoples. They were created by Sauron (or maybe Morgoth, I'm not sure ATM) and they are evil by nature. Yes, even when they're very young. Evilness is literally bred into their bones.
That accured to me, but that is more a level 50 pet unless you want to round up a posse. Even then, you still have to get the carn dum things. So to me, that pet is in the level 50 range. Also, putting the turtle at level 75-85 is probably more manageble, I just wanted mine sooner rather than later.

You can earn the items needed to get your Eagle via skirmishes (from the curiosities vendor in the skirmish camps I think). It takes quite a lot of marks but I had my Eagle up and running at level 46.

You are correct, and have saved me the trouble of making this point. + rep.
That's why I said "Combat". Also a good skill would be that the turtle could heal itself, you know to keep it fighting.
More appropriate would be to give it really phenomenal resistance: it may not have a self-heal, but it's just about impossible to injure it. Perhaps when subject to attack it could retreat into its shell for a few seconds, unable to fight till it emerges.
That shell idea is a good one, seeing as how that would be very natural for a turtle to do. They could have artisan talisman recpies for the different turtles too, because there aren't any at the moment. I mean, If they go and put a pet in the level
40-50 area. most likely it will be in the higher levels like 76 and above. *sigh...*
