Thread: Wrong German translation of "Shores of the Great River'

Don't know whether this has already been brought to your attention at Turbines but the German translation of the title of "Shores of the Great River The Journey Towards Rohan Begins" contains an error.

Since this title translation features in all kinds of splash screens, you should take care about this asap.


The translation says: "Ufer der großen Flusses" while it should say "Ufer des großen Flusses" instead.


"der" in genitive clause refers to something in plural, like "Ufer der großen Flüsse" (shores of the great rivers).


Hope you guys are not already printing this on DVD covers or posters... x)

just to give you some more headaches, the Map of "Pits of Iron" only displays at the english client not the german xD.

Just stay with the english client and you're fine with most of this translation issues...

Please just name the update "Ufer des Großen Stroms", sounds alot better & lore conform

That you NOT should use the google translator was meant for longer passages.
For "Shores of the Great River" you can use it.
The google translation is right.

Some german splash screens are beyond funny.
The monster play pvp one for example:

Fight for Sauron!

was translated to:

Kämpft um Sauron!

instead of:

Kämpft für Sauron!

C'mon, proofreaders are cheap, at least get ONE. No in house translation? Place some QA to see if the service you use is worth the money...

I think they don't even have an English one. The initial informational instance finder pop-up still uses the word "too" instead of "to" in two places, i.e. "bind to".

Well, that's just laziness.

I have to translate a lot of stuff actually (Japanese - German mostly) and everyone working with languages knows: there will be mistakes, no matter how hard you try. Basic grammar mistakes like the one in my example are so obvious for any native speaker, it could be corrected in seconds.
If it is important, you want it to be double checked. Got the impression that German costumers are not worth it though...

I also opened a similar article in the German section of this forum with a kind request to fix this translation misstake.

Its a pitty, that it seems to be not possible to translate such easy things correctly. You have a great community of fans within the German speech area - why don´t you ask for help?

Not only for banners or additional stuff also for ingame contents. I think there would be a lot of people within the German speech area, who are willing to help you great guys to translate the game content in an appropriate way - at the end it is only for our comfort.

So if I can help - and here my envoking to all German speaking players, who are able and willing to help to do the same - let me know - I would like to translate game content as best as I can.

Perhaps we should open an own section in this official forum, where content, that has to be translated/corrected should be posted and when many people share the work and do a little translation work on only one specific part, then only one of the officials is necessary to put the gathered work together.

Together we could bring the long lasting "into German translating issues" to an end in no time.

I am not a person who always only grouse - I think when more/much people would work together - there will be no more problems like these any longer.

In the Codemasters forum we had our "loka-thread", where we posted translation-issues, missing words and punctuation marks or wrong spellings. It's much easier to post a screenshot or make a simple forum-post than fill out the whole bug-form each time.
It's also easier to have it in one thread, because everyone is able to see if the problem has been already posted.

But to make something like this working properly, a format has to be defined first, which should make the work easy for all participants. Something like a shortened version of the bug formular (or something similar, we don't know how the loca-person is doing the revision, or which infos are exactly needed).

Some of us are doing already simple translations for the german community, because there are lots of infos in the English-speaking parts of the forum (like infos about the lottery, news about RoR, some interesting news from the Dev-tracker,...) but only the "important" news/announcements are official translated.

yeah, thats the point. I think if the developers would be interested in, there would be a great number of community members who would like to help.

I am tired of postings where people flame about the "incompetence" of the developers team. Why shouldn´t we all work together and make our life with lotro more comfortable ?

...they corrected the translation in the client login screen! ;D
