    Origin of the Term "Waden"

Why do some of you call Wardens that? What does it mean?

It's a term used on the US forums to try and define a Warden who has lost their 'R' (ie become 'good' at the class by performing or tanking something decent). I believe it originated from some sort of dev post or patch notes or something where the Warden was accidentally misspelled although I'm sure someone will know more.

It wasn't something picked up over in the EU before the merge, and the use of 'Wadens' and other random Americaness has deteriorated as we serious EU types have invaded

The current definition for Waden appears to be: he who whines on forums.

Bels is pretty close, although I don't think it was an official typo, just a particular poster who persistently misspelled Warden.

Also, when a Waden also loses his heart, we must all give him a cooky. Considering the difficulties both Wardens and Wadens have faced in RoI, I think we could all go for a few rounds of cookys.

Warden loses an R for being a good warden.

Warden gets an R for being a bad warden.

R's can accumulate and be taken away or added depending on how bad the warden is.

Re: Origin of the Term "Waden"

But seriously. It originated as a typo. Not long after moria, we were given the carvings to assist with power issues. One of them had a typo: Stalward Shield of the Guadian or some such name. So then we started taking Rs out of class names. Minstel , bugla, unekeepe, hunte, waden, etc. Waden sounded cool. Then someone made a comment along the lines of: I'm not just a warden, I'm a waden. Kinda caught on. Not many people still here from those days.

It's kind of sad really. A lot of our culture/memes/public silliness has vanished due to the massive influx of F2P and Eureopeans. I think it's amazing how few people remember Steve or the Chicken (blasphemy), and it saddens me how so few people can find the secret messages in posts.

Re: Origin of the Term "Waden"

Here is a generic Warden Forum culture lesson for you:

Wadens: The term Waden came from when Graalx misspelled our classes name, calling us Wadens instead of Wardens. We promptly jumped on the term and made it ours. Poor Graalx now lives forever in infamy and we get a funny new word that no one else understands XD. Nowadays a Waden refers to an elite warden.

The Significance of the R: The difference between a Waden and your average warden is the letter R. Thus losing your R means becoming more skilled, moving from a warden to a Waden. Conversely, gaining an R means you have failed as a warden. This gave birth more recently to warrdens

The exception to the rule of "R": A Warrrden (3 R's) is a warden that achieved greatness by being very very fail. For example: If you manage to steal a KB from 5 champions in the Ettenmoors by using Impressive Flourish (a lame gambit), you may be a warrrden. Or if you somehow out DPS the hunter because The Boot (horrible DPS) Devestated 4 times in a row, you may be a warrrden. This is the rarest type of warden and you will very rarely see them.

Steve- Grasshopper God of Wardens: Steve is the almighty god of warden, Waden, and warrden alike. He was created in a thread by Roov (enemy of wardens) in an attempt to derail it. Steve however, unfortunately died in a pull in which he had 10+ mobs on him and forgot to use his leach skills. His current state is hard to explain. Basically he is like Voldemort if you ever read the Harry Potter books: not really alive but not dead. His existence however gave birth to two factions:

The PSF (Pro-Steve Faction): The PSF is striving to revive Steve The Almighty. I am heading this effort in an attempt to bring our glorious leader back from the dead and shine the Holy Light upon Warden kind. Ours is easily the more powerful faction and we have created a powerful team of Wadens to accomplish Steve's will. Join us and live as one of the glorious Waden Bearers Of the Light.

The ASF (Anti-Steve Faction): Noobs. Ignore them.

The Great Chicken: Inferior to Steve, ignore it.

Cooky!: Cookies are for noobs, real Wadens eat Cooky's. You shall spell Cooky as such or be ridiculed.

Forum Gambits: Being a warden does not end in game, it continues into the forums. Behold: your forum gambits. You may create these as you decide they are needed. Numerous Gambits have already been created but you should strive to learn these on your own so as to be more uber.

    Your Builders: Cooky, E-peen, Derail.

Ferrets: Considered by most to be the most important issue facing the Warden as a class: the lack of Ferrets. Ideally people would like wardens to have Pet Ferrets, then aggro management and crit defense or whatever if there is time after that. If you see a thread you like, or dislike, or only just found, insert a ferret as part of proper warden etiquette.
Props to Regero for the reference.

Also, the quoted post needs to be made a sticky.

Re: Origin of the Term "Waden"

Taking the warden memes too seriously would be a grave mistake. You've also got to understand that in the beginning, there were a smallish number of regular posters here that worked together to figure out how to get the most out of the class and to answer as new questions as thoroughly as possible. Accepted practices like morale surfing and conviction kiting came out of this as a result of wardens trying to make a space for themselves in the moria cluster. This familiarity of course bred a lot of inside jokes, most of which have been lost forever.

Re: Origin of the Term "Waden"

The term "Waden" was being kicked around the forum a little. iirc correctly it was because an item had the term "Guadian" on it, not because Warden was mispelled.

Everyone's recollection is different, but there was a thread someone posted about his "heart being ripped out" that was made about that same time. It became quite famous in its own right, and since a Waden was obviously a Warden with his "heart ripped out," the term "waden" catapulted into fame and legend.

What comes next, is that your "inside jokes" often end in an "oh god those noobs" way. Your attitude of being so special and being in that forum for so long has the downside that others feel unwanted and "noobish". That with a class, that has it hard already.

My last post has been censored. So i'll try it again in clearer words.

Maybe it's a cultural thing, but i find your way of trolling and including, that we are too stupid to find a hidden message insulting. What comes next, is that your "inside jokes" often end in an "oh god those noobs" way. Your attitude of being so special and being in that forum for so long has the downside that others feel unwanted and "noobish". That with a class, that has it hard already.

Call me stupid, delete my posts, or say, i don't understand english as much as you want, but maybe you should take a look at your statements too.
I'm not "trolling" nor was I complaining about he F2P'ers or the Euro people. I was simply stating that since they joined the midst the more old-school wardens have become the minority and the memes have consequently died away. That's all. I liked the memes and I liked the sense of shared camaraderie that used to make the Warden forum so strong, I'm sad to see it gone. The memes are just stupid jokes for sure, but they made us more of a community.

Also, I did not insinuate that people were too stupid to understand the memes, I was just amazed at how few actually did now. I also did not insinuate that I was special. I am simply privy to times you were not involved in and was referencing those times to other people who were. It's the equivalent of old war veterans sitting around in a retirement home chatting about the good old days. Would you barge into that group and throw a tantrum complaining that "they were acting all elite just because they were soldiers"? Same thing.

Lastly, stop calling me "elite". I loathe that word, and I hate elitists. I am the exact polar opposite of an elitist and enjoy myself that way. You should have evidence of this yourself considering that in several of your posts which have been very difficult to understand, I was one of the few who actually tried to help and understand your issue. Why on earth you would assume I am suddenly an elitist and a troll for being sad that this community lost something enjoyable is beyond me.

Now, before you rage in another post, please take the proverbial "chill pill" and just accept we will not see eye to eye, and let this be the last thing said.

I was just making a poem and having fun, not intending to insult anyone. It seems my only-in-fun poem that I didn't mean at all actually is true I guess, it seems the Warden forums are no longer what they used to be. You know, you really could just have fun sometime and not take everything as an insult.

I could have sworn the OP was allowed to re-rail his own thread as long as he derailed it again as soon as possible (usually in the same post).

Plus, giving an R is pretty harsh. Perhaps just withholding a cooky would be in order?

Re: Origin of the Term "Waden"

    ROFL.

I may be a European nooblet but I find your memes hilarious.

I may be just a Warden now, but my ultimate goal is to become the absolute Waden, one like none before.
Hear, hear, for I prophecize now; A special sun shall rise, and in its shine shall be written 'Eolund, Waden of Dwaowdelf, Lod of Wadens'.
