I want to create an Elf Champion, but I believe Elves are more suited to be a Hunter or the caster classes (RK and LM). All the other three races seem to be more sturdy. Will it work to have an Elf Champion? I would really like to roll such a character, but I'm wondering if it will be a weak char.
I've been told so many times 'why do you have an elf guardian?' and the simple answer is - because i want one. She has 1700 vit 800 might, 13k morale unbuffed and she totally rocks. Its your game, play it your way
previously it was preferable to have a man as a champ for the man-heal. But with sudden defence, true heroics and dire need that is totally irrelevant now.
I feel lore-nitpicky so I'll remind that the whole idea of "elves are weak and skinny" was created later than the Lord of the Rings.
Tolkien Elves were stronger and taller than Men, and the Sindar were known for using axes in battle rather than bows or swords
Elves get that 2% damage bonus trait to 1h swords and the same for bows, men for 2h swords, dwarves for axes. In the end, all types of weapons do the same amount of damage, regardless of their type (1h dagger same like 1h axe as legendaries of the same Age and minimum level). What basically is the choice for an elven champion is the racial port to rivendell, which is the furthest away from bree as there is.
Go play it your way and rock because that is what Champions do.
LOTRO is not one of those games where racial benefits are so powerful that they make a different. So if you want to play an Elvish Champion then have no fear that he/she will be weaker than the other race.
As for lore wise an elvish champion is actually one of the most feared warrior on the battlefield. So if you are into RP then an Elf Champion will also fit the description nicely.

my elf champ owns!
"Irrelevant" is a little extreme. It is nice to have and once in a while can make the difference in surviving a pull. However, I agree that it shouldn't really weigh in your decision in what class to play.

Small correction, elves were certainly strong but not taller than Men...or at least not the Edain. One of the comments about Galadriel after noting that she was the tallest of all Elf-women (and one of the tallest overall) was that she was only Man-high (roughly 6'4" to 6'6") whereas the Dunedain and their ancestral kin amongst the Edain could regularly reach much greater heights (Elendil while commonly called "The Tall" though in the waning of Numenor reached over 7')
Put another way the tallest amongst all Elves reached the height of normal amongst the Edain...now several other groups of men amongst the Eastern and Northern tribes (the ancestors of the Rohirrim were merge with some of these folk in the 2nd Age) were shorter and wider but as a general rule Men are the tallest, Elves the fairest, Dwarves the hardiest, and Hobbits the stealthiest of the free peoples.
"We can deny our heritage and our history, but we cannot escape responsibility for the result...but we cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home. " - E R Murrow
Elf champs get a great racial of the stealth. I have heard this makes elf champs fun as heck in the moors for surprising the creeps. I just wish my dwarf could get a racial stealth but I know that's not possible since dwarfs are noisy creatures and you can hear one coming from a mile away.
Provably dwarfs are the best champions, never men 3k heal is weak now but if u think going aoe, as champion class is, DW swords, hit chance and racial eldar's grace will give you lots of fun. As everyone say here, is your choice, find your playstile.
I've played every class and many as multiple races... Obviously RK and LM are very limited but still... I don't think the race matters so much. It's all about what you enjoy. Afterall, this IS a game and you're supposed to be having FUN. Is it more fun to follow someone else's example just because they have their own preference? Or would you prefer to do your own thing and prove them wrong?

i never slot the man-heal and i survive just fine so yea, its irrelevant :P
Even though the advantages are reduced nowadays, playing a champion elf with high Agility and Evade ratings remains the most fun to me. (I'm here... Missed me... <tap on shoulder> Can't touch me...)
Well, my opinion is, that every races have the most fitful classes for them. The hobbits are burglars or hunters, the dwarves are guardians (or rune-keepers, but, there wasn't any rune-keepers in the lore), men, well, all fits to them, except the lore-master. And the elves... Well, hunter, champion, warden, minstrel, the elves of the First Age fought on many ways against the power of the Dark Lord. Glorfindel, and some other elves, killed Balrogs, and, it is said, Durin's bane one of the weakest of them, though he is still powerful, and none can kill it alone. And, well, I can imagine Glorfindel in fight only with a great elven sword or spear and a huge shield. Before RoI, we could use great, heavy shields too, but now, we cannot hold even the lightest of them. I hope that one day Turbine will allow again to use shields.
