Re: Fashion Contest: Fan Favorite Voting Discussion!
for screenshot #2 I wanted to take pieces that normally people thought were ugly and make them beautiful also the chest and pants were very hard to find because they are trash drops only, at least I am pretty sure anyways. In fact it took me a year of deeding and playing alts and a kin mates help to find them. Here is a list of the pieces I used, the color and where you can get them:
head: elven circlet / no dye / festivals, gift boxes, maybe turbine store and lotteries
cloak: wrap of the turning leaves / olive dye / fall festival, lotteries and I think turbine store too possibly
chest: wolfpelt coat / olive dye / random drop from mobs below 55 or possible low level quest reward *
gloves: ceremonial gloves of the seven stars / orange dye / skirmish vendor classic annuminas
legs: worm skin / olive dye / random drop from mobs below 55 or possible low level quest reward *
boots: ceremonial boots of the seven stars / no dye / skirmish vendor classic annuminas
*these two items were found off humanoid mobs in the higher leveled areas of angmar and misty mountains, chest piece was from a screeching cargul in himbar, and legs were from a gauradan in the south east corner of misty mountains.`'¤.¸ Nobody / Fairyfoogoo / Daikoku / Psychological ¸.¤'´

Re: Fashion Contest: Fan Favorite Voting Discussion!
I think number 6 is the most original and interesting, I've never seen anyone in anything close to it. And the outfit really gives an indication of the character's personality!
I can't bring myself to vote for any of the submissions who are using pre-made sets. I just feel that's cheating a little. It's supposed to be about self-expression! If all you are doing is pairing pieces that are specifically designed to go together, where is the creativity in that? And 10- *yawn*. Yes it's lovely, but how many times have we all seen a white Elf-queen's Dress with gold and white accessories?
If we were voting for screenshots and not for the clothes themselves, then 9 would take the cake
I think by asking voters to choose their favorite screenshot, then labeling them Screenshots 1-10 instead of phrasing it: "vote for your favorite outfit", and labeling them Outfits 1-10 there might be a different outcome.Diamint- Guardian Metalsmith,

It looks like:
Head- Winged Helm- Rivendell heavy vendor
Chest- Elven Steel Breastplate- Rivendell heavy vendor
Shoulders & Gloves- Elven Soldier's- level 42 heavy crafted
Leggings- Dwarf Steel Leggings- level 41 & 44 vendor
Boots- Sellsword's Boots- level 51 heavy crafted
My guess is all are dyed white, and all of these pieces can be found under different names as well.

I'd like to thank everyone who voted for me (Screenshot no 4)! I would also like to share a thought. I think it 'd be nice if people knew in which category each outfit competed (it's obvious in some screenshots
). This way the purpose of each outfit would be made more clear. For example, I designed this outfit for some formal event, a party in the field like the one in the screenshot. I'd like to know what the other players had in mind when designing their outfits! Cheers and good luck to everyone!

Feel better now you've got that off your chest?
The contestants didn't themselves choose to be in the final, I guess they just put together outfits they loved the look of. All the screenshots show a blend of pieces and dyes creating an overall harmony in their looks. Sometimes it is the 'accessorising' that lifts a combo out of the ordinary, or a choice of colour palette, rather than whether the pieces are of a set.
Good luck to all that entered. My vote's for number 7.

First of all I would say that my english is not the best (I'm from Germany

I'd like to thank everyone who voted for my Screenshot #1.
I participated in the category "Fashion In Motion" and it takes a long time to find a matching outfit for the "Prized Angmar's Free Peoples Horse".
All Screenshots are amazing and I am grateful that I was selected for this Contest!
In this thread it has been asked several times for the outfits in the Screenshots.
Here is my list of the pieces I used:
Head: Urdhol-helm, black dye (Isengard instances boe drop, light)
Chest: Elven Cloth Vest, burgundy dye (Light armoursmith in Rivendell)
Back: Cloak of the Raven, burgundy dye (Fall festival)
Hands: Strong Sturdy Dwarf-make Leather gloves, burgundy dye (crafted lvl 22 medium)
Legs: Song-caller's Trousers, grey dye (Minstrel Song Caller's Armour, Moria)
Feet: Threadbare Boots of the Dunland Healer, burgundy dye (Dunland quest reward, light)

100% agree!!! This is a Costume Contest, not a Screenshot Contest. Perhaps they should have been titled Outfit #1, Outfit #2, etc. (Yellow sticky for Celestrata...
)
Please don't get the wrong idea, I love events like this; they help make LOTRO special and fun. Perhaps, in the future, a full on screenshot contest would be cool. Remember the White Hand of Saruman Contest? (which turned into a Photoshop Contest....lol)
At first I thought #8 was a complete set, but after reading here that they are separate items that were dyed,
#8 gets my vote. Well done Telranos!

Re: Fashion Contest: Fan Favorite Voting Discussion!
That's certainly my view as well. I'm the author of number three; I happen to think that the Draigoch armour sets contain some of the most cosmetically appealing outfit pieces I've found so far. It took me a good amount of effort to find and obtain other pieces that would work just right with the basic Lore-master Draigoch outfit, as I saw it.
Anyway, here are the pieces used. The category was "Professionally Minded (Lore-master class)".
Chest: Spellweaver's Robe, default dye (Lore-master Draigoch set)
Legs: Spellweaver's Leggings, default dye (Lore-master Draigoch set)
Head: Helm of Laindehal's Watch, crimson dye (Ettenmoors Warden set)
Shoulders: Shoulder-guards of the Keen Eye, crimson dye (Level 75 skirmish raid drop)
Hands: Gloves of the Riddle Teller, crimson dye (Burglar Draigoch set)
Feet: Spellweaver's Shoes, default dye (Lore-master Draigoch set)
Back: Golden Tree Summer Cloak, crimson dye (summer festival)
Thanks to those who voted for this outfit. =] It's an honour to find that it has a place with all the other wonderful outfits over which I'm drooling. =P

All screenshots are really very nice.
But as other said, it is about the outfit, not the screenshot.
I vote for Nr. 5. as the best outfit.
It had to be hard work to put all things together to create the feeiling of mystery. This is something new and maybe extravagant outfit take me far from lorien or moria and let me think about the other not so well known regions of middle earth like Harad with its desert (that was my first impression). An I like that feeling and that impression the pic convey to the beholder.

It's about the fashion, not the setting.
It has nothing to do with the setting.
This is the unfortunate reality of these contests when you get the general public to vote on them: They turn out not meaningful.
It's still nice though for WB to show off how nice characters in the game can look, but in terms of an objective, meaningful, unbaised competition? No, this is a joke compared to that.
Not trying to put down the comp, it's nice for what it is. But what it is, is what it is: Largely a popularity contest, nothing more.Where are you going my fleet-footed friend,

Re: Fashion Contest: Fan Favorite Voting Discussion!
thank you so much for letting me know they can be acquired from that quest I remembered seeing them before for some quest but couldn't remember which that's why I mentioned possible quest reward too lol that will make it much more easier to put together if I ever need to find the items again ^_^
I would like to add to those saying the contest should of focused more on the outfits themselves rather than the screenshots I agree with you to a point. I think this contest was meant to be a themed fashion contest, it said in the rules to take screenies of your character representing that theme in action and show off your outfit to go along with that theme. For example even though your outfit may be wonderful and unique if you take a screenie of it in a barren area where there is not much going on and nothing to really express the theme you are trying to produce then it takes away from the experience of a themed outfit in action for the role it was made for. Like what #4 said about her outfit being for a party, even though her outfit may be a simple two pieces she was able to bring more life and fun to it just by creating a beautifully angled shot to show it in action in the setting it was meant for. I think the scene that goes with the outfit works as a frame for the art collage that everyone's put together with their outfits. It's like if you take a pretty girl and put a fancy dress on her, and take a picture of her in a cruddy area on the streets most will see her as a "lady of the night", but if you take her to a gallery or a fancy restaurant and show pics of her there the viewer is more inclined to believe she is a classy high-end lady. Of course there are exceptions in reality lol but my point is that the scene works as a frame for whatever you are trying to display and in regards to themes it can help to express them better by putting it in action.
My own theme for screenshot #2 was a lore master/ farmer tired from a hard day working in the fields takes a moment to create a fire as the day is ending so she can rest and relax with her faithful bear companion, her outfit is also harvest themed to go along with her being a farmer and it represents elements of nature, which lore masters are known for their close ties to nature.

Re: It's about the fashion, not the setting.
Some people see "beauty" in the ability of an outfit to match the setting. Some outfits are indeed thought of with that purpose in mind, so it would take away from them not to consider how well they blend in with what's around them. Now if this contest had only *one* theme, it would have been different. The Professional Minded entries though, for example, require a setting in my opinion. DX Just think about camouflage clothing -you wouldn't be able to say how well an outfit's done unless you'd seen it where it was meant to be.
A fashion contest is in itself not a very objective contest though. If you ask 10 people: "Why do you like X outfit?" they will give you 10 different answers. :/ I think that's the way it's supposed to be.

Re: It's about the fashion, not the setting.
Unless the word popularity means something vastly different from what I understand it to mean, this makes no sense. How does voting for the overall screenshot as opposed to strictly the outfit have anything to do with popularity? And how does considering the whole screenshot as the criteria for judgement make one biased or remove any meaning from one's opinion about its artfulness?
I haven't read all of the posts in this thread, but I have yet to see anyone say "I'm voting #_ because I like the person who submitted it." Everyone has been giving their opinions about the outfits or the outfits and their settings.Fionnuala of Landroval

Re: Fashion Contest: Fan Favorite Voting Discussion!
Hello, everyone! Outfit #10 was mine, and thank you to everyone kind enough to vote and comment on my entry!
My outfit was:
Dress: Elf-queen dress (Lotro Store exclusive, I believe)
Shoulders: Mantle of the Beneficent (I got this from skirmishing, but I believe it is the same as the Minstrel Moria set)
Cape: Cloak of the Shining Star (From the last Anniversary celebration)
Circlet: Hat of the Written Word (A Rune-keeper Moria piece)
Regarding the Screenshot versus Outfit discussion, I have to say I might have missed something very important:
I cannot find this anywhere, either on the LOTRO Fashion Contest 2012 page or the LOTRO Fashion Contest 2012 Rules, Terms, and Condtions page. I have no doubt I am blind, but where are you all seeing this? It definitely would have helped me, I think.
As I was trying to determine how to go about taking my renderings, I decided to have a look at previous contests, as this was the first time I have entered one of these. What I noticed was that there seemed (to me, at least) to be a delineation between Screenshot Contests (all of these are located on the left-hand side of the screen where the finalists' screenshots are shown):
- The Spring Festival Screenshot Contest
- Bullroarer Took Day Screenshot Contest
and Fashion Contests
- LOTRO Fashion Contest 2012
- 2010 Yule Fashion Contest
For the Screenshot contests, under the different categories, you can find phrases like:
- Take your best action shot during the Stomp-A-Shrew event!
- Couples Celebrating Nature -- Throw off your coats and scarves and get outside! Enjoy the lush spring landscape of Middle-earth!
- Best Toast -- Snap a photo of your character toasting to Bullroarer Took!
- Standing Strong -- Take a picture beneath Bullroarer Took's statue.
- Best Party -- Assemble five or more of your friends and throw a party in any housing area, city, or tavern/inn.
- Best Living on the Edge Party -- Who needs the comfort of an inn? Gather five or more of your friends in the most dangerous party location you can find! (bold and italics obviously mine)
These statements indicate to me that setting is not only important but vital to the judging of these contests.
I cannot find anything resembling these in the Fashion Contest guidelines. The closest statement to this type I can find would be:
- Fashion In Motion: Entries in this category should be taken while on horseback! Color coordinate with your horse and ride through Middle-earth in style! - this is really just referring to looking fancy on your horse I think, though
In all honesty, I thought that for this polling contest, our characters would almost certainly be separated from the rest of the screenshots and all be put together with a neutral background and environment, but I guess I was waaaaaaay off!
I also figured that, since it was to be a Fashion Contest, that all of the outfit should be visible (not cropped for obscured at all). I absolutely despise the little "booties" that are forced on you when wearing a dress, and I just had to take my rendering so they did not show, for fashion's sake, if nothing else! I did this believing that my entry would almost certainly be disqualified, because it did not actually show the entire outfit. Imagine my surprise when I was chosen as a finalist, and this was the rendering that did it!
Please understand that this is not meant as a lamentation over those who are choosing to look at the settings as part of the contest but more as an answer to the "Who was the dumb-dumb who took a rendering of a pretty dress in a barren house and why?" question
(Other reasons are that bright sunlight makes all bright whites look 'dirty', and it was evening when I took the rendering)
I am absolutely amazed at all the finalists' renderings. For what it is worth, my vote is for #3, which is a crisp and clear rendering allowing the viewer to see the whole of a very handsome outfit that makes me want to forget Scouting and take up book-learning! Congratulations and good luck to all the finalists and the front-runners in the polling!
But, when you set aside all the differences in opinion on what criteria to use for judging and a few Turbine points, I think we all win this one, because through this contest we and Turbine:
- Put a spotlight on a facet of this wonderful game that many may not have thought much about before now, giving them a new thing to ponder and do within Middle-earth.
- Gave some much-deserved recognition to some wonderfully-gifted outfit designers and those gifted with the ability to capture beautiful snapshots of our time spent in these lands.
- Built our community, making connections with others who spend time here. I have received so many wonderful notes and comments from people I did not know! Being able to share with one another something we enjoy is what will make this haven long-lasting and a truly wonderful experience.
Well done, Turbine! Next up in community-building is to fix our Mylotro journals, right?

Re: It's about the fashion, not the setting.
I can understand everyone reasonning but there is though something that tick me behind all the screenshots we have here.
Before i continue let me say that for this contest i voted for my friend, because i think she was feeting in the right category, for the Formal Extravagance : i considere she is at home, ready to leave for a party and the contrast between her outfit and the nude environnment make her outfit totally irrealist in that place. And this is an extravagance! in the right terms of Lotro contest.
Now i congratulate all the people who wins this contest. They did their best.
I just have some difficulty with some screenshots, because it is not the outfit that is the center piece, but the area around and this contest was more about fashion. But this does not remove any beauty to their outfit.
I respect the contest even if poorly formulated. There is 6 categories and we have here 10 winners and i have difficutly to put some in a category.
Now let me explain me more please
About simply fashion :
Any modelist fashion presents its collection with less colours around so each piece of it gives its best and allow people to imagine themselves anywhere with that piece of fashion. Most of the times only the lights add colours to the background which is white or black.
So if i brink back this to an outfit here, yes the screen behind is important but not much as the outfit itself. If i was to choose an outfit from those to wear it, there is some i would avoid because i can not say if i like the outfit more or the background more.
And the beauty of an outfit what ever is its colour, is the way it looks anywhere. If you have to be in a specific place to show off an outfit, for matching colours, then this is not in my own idea the perfect outfit.
Fleurlis: it said in the rules to take screenies of your character representing that theme in action and show off your outfit to go along with that theme.
From Lotro official rules :- Most Fashionable Kinship: Dress for success as a group and send in your kinship photos! The winner of this category will be known as “Kinship Fashion Photographer 2012” on the LOTRO Forums.
- Fashion In Motion: Entries in this category should be taken while on horseback! Color coordinate with your horse and ride through Middle-earth in style! The winner of this category will receive the title of, “Galloping Beauty 2012” (female) or “Dashing Stallion 2012” (male) on the LOTRO Forums.
- Professionally Minded: Look your best while you’re on the job! This category is for the many beautiful outfits that are themed to either your class or your crafting profession. The winner of this category will receive the title of “Professionally Dressed 2012” on the LOTRO Forums.
- Formal Extravagance: Not every ensemble needs to be created with armor. This category is for those luxurious clothing combinations that are more suited for a party under the light of the moon. The winner of this category will receive the title “Extravagant in Starlight 2012” on the LOTRO Forums.

Re: It's about the fashion, not the setting.
From the terms and conditions of the contest :
In the context on a screenshot contest, I take "composition" as being about the composition of the overall picture, not "composition of the outfit". Composition is a common used term when talking about pictures, but not when talking about fashion.Turbine will announce six winners, with no two winners being of the same category, on Friday, February 24th, 2012. Turbine, Inc. will select the winning entries based on composition and subject matter.
The rules also specify that the screenshot must be a specific minimum size (and a big one), which means that the screenshot itself does matter.
This contest is referred to as a screenshot contest with screenshot categories by Turbine, so personally I voted for the screenshot who best showcased the outfit, and interpreted outfits as being just the theme of the screenshot contest. If Turbine would have called the contest "outfit contest", then I would have voted for the outfit alone. Turbine are the only ones who get to say what the contest really is about, and they chose to call it that way.
I also wonder if all the people who say that it is unfair to not just vote for the outfit alone would have been totally ok with a tiny as-cropped-as-possible picture of a character in his outfit standing there at the char selection screen winning above all the other entries here. I know I wouldn't have been, and yet I've put way more care into the outfits than into the overall screenshots when I submitted my entries.

Re: It's about the fashion, not the setting.
Obviously Turbine is not enforcing their own contest rules as Screenshot #7 does not meet that minimum size, yet is nominated nonetheless.
I think people are reading too much into these "rules". In the end it is as a previous poster said: show 1 screenshot to 10 different people and they will all judge it differently. This Fan-award poll is a good example of it.

Re: It's about the fashion, not the setting.
Tell me *Vote on the 10 screenshots no matter the outfit or the scenery but only the overall feeling then i would have voted totally differently.
But for me it was a fashion contest initiated by Turbine with 3 fashion bloggers: those 3 bloggers are not only doing screenshots, their main matter is to speak about outfits and *judge* outfits.
So in my naive understanding, i was waiting for a pure outfit contest.
May be i understand nothing right now in fact, as for now i dont understand for what i votedAshannae(LM85 Taylor) Laureanna(Hunter85/Sch) Annaelen(Mins/78/cook) Moranae(Mins/76/WS)

Re: It's about the fashion, not the setting.
In fact there is no reasonning which is wrong or good. Your reasonning seems very fair and i agree with it BUT if i go back to Turbine post : (emphasis are not mine)
View the screenshots below, and then vote for your favorite outfit!
LOTRO Fashion Contest 2012 but the picture starring the article says : Fashion week Screenshot contest ...
So i dare say that they did not take any risk, leaving them free way to decide how they will choose winners
Fair enough
Again, congratulations to everyone! i said it earlier every screenshots are beautiful and you all made proof of creativity.
Dont feel ennoyed because I and some others discuss the matter, we dont discuss your win and presentation, we discuss Turbine way to present the contest

hmmm, so tell me then, what is the key command to turn my head to the rear while riding a mount? (If you can offer a legitimate answer to that I will gladly retract my argument!)
Don't get me wrong, the player art is fantastic and I personally like more than a few of them. But the problem is that they are "player art," not screenshots of player fashion. This is not what the essence of the contest is.Last edited by Tarmuar; Feb 21 2012 at 03:42 PM.

Re: Fashion Contest: Fan Favorite Voting Discussion!
Play around with your arrow or wasd keys a bit. Walking backwards with running speed on turns your head to the right, in walking speed it turns to the left, the left and right arrow keys make your mount strafe, while in walking speed it will make you sit straight up. You can also perform some emotes while on your horse like /charge, /cheer and /cry.
Have fun! (and retract your silly argument!)

Re: Fashion Contest: Fan Favorite Voting Discussion!
ah well, the unfortunate of it all is that when you back up, the horse looks...back (or down, turbine has done quite a good job of making sure things are "right")...
I will leave the argument at this...if it is player art that you want (and I have said the "shots" are fantastic player art and I like more than a few of them, properly all are great) then this is a great contest...
but if it is screenshots you are calling for...well...this contest has left alot to be desired...

Re: Fashion Contest: Fan Favorite Voting Discussion!
lol well thank you but apparently I didn't word myself very well, it didn't say those exact words, on the contest rules it said:
Professionally Minded: Look your best while you’re on the job! This category is for the many beautiful outfits that are themed to either your class or your crafting profession. The winner of this category will receive the title of “Professionally Dressed 2012” on the LOTRO Forums.
at least for the one I submitted my outfit for... reading this makes me think ok make an outfit themed to my class or profession or both and take a screenshot of it in a setting to reflect that theme as well, hence why it says look your best while on the job...
to Valkrist and any others reading I wasn't trying to say that the setting was part of the rules or that it was absolutely necessary(sorry that I wrote it that way). If you read the rest of my post I was only trying to explain that when you are presenting something that it's usually helpful if you frame it well, and also that bringing your theme into the setting surrounding the outfit you are helping others to see what your theme is when most outfits don't clearly show it by themselves. I only meant to say that having a good setting helps to accentuate your outfit and it's theme, like a good frame does for a painting. I am sorry that I didn't word myself better in that post and I hope everyone understands that I think the outfit itself is the most important thing that should be judged. Also this post from turbine:
Turbine will announce six winners, with no two winners being of the same category, on Friday, February 24th, 2012. Turbine, Inc. will select the winning entries based on composition and subject matter.
when it says it will be judged on composition and subject matter it makes me think that it would be a good idea to frame your outfit with a setting that reflects your theme to make the composition and subject matter stronger in the outfit. That is my own artistic opinion and I am sorry if I offend anyone with it or anything. I do think all of the outfits themselves were wonderful. I just thought that with a different setting some of them could have been even better and maybe been seen in a different light when they were voted on.
to Tarmuar #1's pose on her horse is very easy to duplicate you simply walk backwards on your horse and yes your horse does make the pose she has when doing that sometimes. turbine stated in their rules no photo editing was allowed except to crop the photo to a certain size. I know that I personally did not photo edit my screenshot. I turned up my graphics as high as they would go, angled my camera right, and I waited for hours in-game for the sky to change to the right sunset scene I wanted and I did the confused emote on my character for a long time before I got the perfect pose lol
lastly I just wanted to make it clear that I never wrote that post to criticize anyone I was only responding to what another had said about the setting having nothing to do with the outfit, and I wanted to state my opinion on how the setting can help an outfit be viewed differently.`'¤.¸ Nobody / Fairyfoogoo / Daikoku / Psychological ¸.¤'´

Re: Fashion Contest: Fan Favorite Voting Discussion!
I voted for #9, althought #8 was close. The action and "story" of #9 really did it. The dark assassin look is very well done, but not over the top.
Great job by everyone.
