I was reading through some old Developer Diaries, and I came across this:
We are currently working on a brand new ranged slot item for Lore-masters that will affect your companions; from giving them more morale, to higher Block/Parry/Evade ratings, to affecting their skills in various ways, and much more. Unfortunately, we ran into some issues getting them to work correctly and decided to leave these to a later update so that we could get them implemented the right way.
That was from Graalx2 on October 28, 2010.
Did you guys get this? I'm not an LM, but I'm almost positive I haven't seen these.

Well, it's been 15 months since this was posted, in which time we've had two updates, an expansion, and another update. I'd like to see you guys get this, but... good luck. You're gonna need it.

These new ranged thingermajiggers sound awesome! No longer will my poor elf lore master wander around having to use an instrument. I seriously think these ranged things are a good idea.
I've never played a loremaster, but I love having one in a fellowship. Were you guys ripped off? I guess that's for you to decide. All I know is, even without that new shiny thingy, you guys rock.
Question, what does your topic title have to do with the post?
Well, if you guys were promised something in "a later update", but then haven't received it 3 updates and an expansion later, I would qualify that as being "Ripped Off". As for the "?", I wasn't positive that you guys didn't get this. For all I knew, you did get it and I've just never noticed the items, or the proposed stats/changes from these items were rolled into legacies/traits/base stats.

There is no promise in that dev diary. Not even a "strong commitment" - in fact, there´s even a clear admission that they cannot get it to work as intended. Hence your choice of words is a bit poor. Given the other class updates and general gameplay changes, its probably an obsolete project anyway, at least in that form.

Just because they WERE working on something and chose to put it off to some future update does not constitute a promise of anything.
No, I do NOT feel "ripped off".

Okay, maybe "Ripped Off" was the wrong title for the thread. But still, given the choice between getting new ranged slot class items and no changes, wouldn't you like to get ranged slot class items?
Since it's been so incredibly long since you guys were told you'd get it Soon(TM), I'm thinking that this was honestly forgotten. If it was just an honest mistake (which is understandable, given the amount of things developers have to juggle at once), then it'd be good to bring it up and remind the devs. If it was purposefully scrapped, then at least you'll (probably) get an explanation as to why it was cut.
I'm sure that Graalx2 will be telling us what happened (and why) as soon as he figures it out. But this was a long time ago, so odds are that's going to take a while.

Yes, these were talked about, and no, we haven't seen them. However...
At the time, part of our problem was pet skins were part of necklaces, who's stats were OK for lower levels, but not really worth it for higher levels. Those of us who wanted to use different pet skins would have to sacrifice bag space and a quickslot for all our talismans. Anytime you wanted to summon a pet, you would click on the talisman, summon, then click back to put your better necklace back on.
The idea behind the ranged slot item was that these talismans would go in that slot, so we could have both our necklace and our talisman on without having to sacrifice the bag slot (unless you wanted to carry more than one) and having to switch back and forth. There was also the idea that these could have some pet related stats on them.
Since then, the pet skin talismans have become one-time-use clickies that make the skins into become a skills instead of needing to carry around a bunch of talismans. As for the proposed stats for the range slot items? There are now pet treats for each pet, similar to the bear pot that has always been around. This were added at the same time as a bunch of other pot type items for all chars.
I'm still hoping to see some sort of ranged slot item, eventually, and Graalx2's comment does give me hope.

I hate to correct an LM about LM things, but that's not right. In the same Dev Diary that talked about these new ranged slots, it talked about getting rid of the necklaces and implementing consumable talismans. The following quote comes from the same Dev Diary.
We have completely re-worked the way we are handling the Lore-master’s companion appearances. All of the necklaces that previously granted a new pet appearance have been converted to single use Talismans. These new Talismans will grant the Lore-master a new skill that will summon a raven, bear, or other pet with the new appearance.
So the idea was clearly that they would be two separate things. There would be the single-use Talismans, that grant different pet appearances. And there would also be:
...a brand new ranged slot item for Lore-masters that will affect your companions; from giving them more morale, to higher Block/Parry/Evade ratings, to affecting their skills in various ways, and much more.
So those were two separate ideas. You got one of them, but not the other.

Please don't tell me that's a 'Hmmm, you're right, I'm supposed to have that lingering somewhere on my hard disk...' kind of 'Hmmm'!?!
Ingaras, lvl 75 Elven Hunter; and others... The Western Alliance, Laurelin "The priority now is the store not the game. The store no longer supports the game, its the other way around."

You got me! I was going from memory and didn't reread the dev diary before posting.

So... with U6 we will get these ranged slot items, but its not what we get promised, functionaly wise. Are they just like placeholders and we will get them updated in future or thats it?
I want to thank the developers for finally giving us these , but ... They're a little dissapointing .
Pet damage is MEH .
I don't tank anything on cap level , so the Regrowth Stickpin means little to nothing to me ( perhaps it could have a little use in the boss combats where you do actually can summon a pet for the aura aka raven / limfrain ) .
The other one is also MEH , only thing it could do is increase the chance for the Raven to proc Dizzy and Lynx to proc Savage Bleed .
I'm hoping to see new better ones on a future update .
