Trying to nail down the reason we didn't get the Original Challenger title (or the other one even)...
Those of you who have gotten it, I just want to know if you had people change toons for any of the wings? (I assume some of you did). What about the raid leader? Did the raid leader ever swap toons, pass leads or temporarily leave the instance? I just want to know what is confirmed as safe to do when we try this again.
Regardless of who was in on earlier runs (if you also swapped players), only the folks in on the Saruman kill received the title, correct?
One other thing we noticed that was kind of buggy was that we had a couple people switch for Saruman and when they came in, the Bukot challenge activated and the timer started. We also got a failed quest message when the timer expired. But they had the locks the whole time... I was the raid leader and I was one of those who swapped toons between Bukot and Saruman and had the timer bug.
I think they need to observe a little more K.I.S.S when they design these raids. The coding seems too unwieldy for them to implement things properly...

we only have 12-13 on usually so classes are tight, we are forced to swap toons for every wing. seems like you guys got some sort of &&&&&&&& server bug. the servers have been absolutely terrible at least on BW, as in good luck doing a challenge or killing stuff in the moors when you sit and lag for 20-25s out of every few minutes. i assume lag is bad elsewhere too at least some of the time
we also had the bukot challenge thing, don't think it did anything. we were hoping it would spawn another challenge chest :P
honestly if you guys can prove through the deed log that you did it, there shouldn't be any reason for turbine not to give you the horse/title

Yes we did have people swap toons. I the raid leader never swapped but did leave to repair. And yes only the folks in on the Saruman kill received the title, I know this for sure because my wife came in on her hunter just for Shadow and she replaced one of the burgs who than swapped back in for the Saruman kill, the burg got it and she did not. Hope that helps.
I was raidleader and never swapped toons, but leave instance for repair and respec. You have everytime someone be in the instance? Because if all 12 leave the instance at the same time for repairs or something the instance can be resetted after some time. I think this may happen to your before saruman, because of the bukot reset you got.

I agree that Ivaed's screenshot coupled with mine should be all the proof needed for them to give us what we earned. The only thing we can't prove is that we didn't disband the instance at any time, but like, why would we right? It should seem pretty obvious what we were trying to accomplish.
The buggy nature of what happened to us leaves me concerned that even when we do this again, the server may have been "tricked" into thinking we satisfied the condition and that the titles were awarded. According to the GMs we encountered (probably 3 or 4 different ones), they can't award titles to players. If that's the case, I highly doubt they can/would make this right even though getting borked out of the most "prestigious" title in the game makes a fella want to throw down... I just doubt they would escalate up to someone who could do something about it, given their penchant for dodgy customer service.
I'll do it one more time, but if we get punked again, the veritable forum &&&&storm shall certainly commence....
Thanks Burio. We always had people in the instance at all times. It was never empty and rarely more than 1 or 2 ever stepped out at a time.
Adding to the above statements: to the best of my knowledge, we had one Burg switch to his Minstrel after Shadow boss was down, and I stepped in on my Champ on Saruman for a Hunter who DC'ed. I don't believe that anyone else switched, and I have no idea if the raid leader ever stepped out or not. The Minstrel and I earned the title (as did the other 10 people who'd been in the raid the whole time).
For those who earned the steed on that run, none of them got it until they logged out and back in - including a Burg who DC'ed during Saruman and got the steed when he finally reconnnected. He actually was a ring-bearer, too - I ended up picking up his ring after phase 5 and using it for the last combination. He still received the title, too, despite DC'ing during the fight.
I hope that they are able to resolve your issue for you, man. That really sucks, frankly. The response about "I'm afraid I'll mess up your characters if I grant you the title" is weird - a GM gave me the Unwise title while I was in a BG raid because I was dumb and ate my Barrow-bree while in a raid, and he didn't hesitate one bit or indicate that it might have unforeseen consequences.

I think we have the best proof we can for any GM/CS person, plus I think someone took FRAPS of all the fights. And like Wootie said, why would we break the instance when we knew the whole point was to NOT break the instance as laid out here! Based on other people's interactions with GMs, and the fact that Turbine must have some kind of monitoring of characters, I'm sure they could easily forensically prove that we did indeed earn and should have gotten the title.
So far I've been stonewalled by 2 different GMs (not surprised there; GMs in this game are the most unhelpful, uncaring bunch of people ever) No response from the CS ticket I filed on the Turbine website, No response from the /bug I filed (although you rarely get anyone asking for more info) and I even PMed JWBarry for Dev help but he's probably knee deep in Rohan development. Obviously something with their product caused us to lose out on the Title, but they don't give a flying fig about us or what happened. Every day this gets ignored by Turbine I get more angry that it happened in the first place. They can't or won't even answer if the server things the title has been bestowed or not. Anyone ever try calling Turbine direct to talk about an in game issue like this? Is it worth trying?
and all this time i thought turbine had implemented a GM bot system.
Just got off the phone with Turbine Account/Billing (the only CS people you can actually reach by phone) and after 5 minutes of conversation was told that In-Game support staff "don't even have phones on their desk, I don't have a number and I have no way of even transferring you to them."

Not our first win but thought this was funny enough to share. We're a small kin and instead of playing the alt shuffle, we went to t2 Saruman with the 12 we had online: 3 hunters, 3 mins (DPS mins ftw), 1 lm, 1 burg, 2 captains, 2 guards.
And, to keep things interesting, sometime in phase 5 one of our hunters had the shadow puddle bug on him. It didn't drop until we were ported to the chests.
Can't say I'll be sorry to leave this buggy raid behind.

Noldor re-cleared ToO in one single instance tonight and got the title we should have gotten last time. We still never received any action regarding our first clear from a couple weeks ago, but at least we got the "Original Challenger" title since no one else on our server has cleared it except us. Cheers to Turbine and their buggy content!
Turbine needs to change the mechanics of this fight
This fight is actually seemingly impossible. I have been in proffesional raid groups with experienced people and competent leaders who explain everything and we wipe on phase 4. Turbine has to change the fight mechanics of this, for starters they need to introduce a checkpoint system where if you wipe on phase 4 you restart on phase 4, etc...
This fight is unreasonably hard and brutal, and turbine has to change it so people out for the gear can actually finish it.
You shouldnt have to be part of an elite raiding kinship to get decent gear, after all.

Seriously? After ever move Turbine made towards putting the decent gear from top challenging end-game content to trivial content, there are still players asking for more easy-mode game?
Orthanc T1 for armour sets
Limlight Kindred & skirmish raids for jewelery
Star-lit crystals to apply on 2nd agers to make them almost as good as 1st agers
Clasp from Saruman T1 (%50 chance drop rate)
These things do not require one to be in an elite raiding kin to acquire.
I agree the fight is hard..The most challenging encounter ever designed in lotro imo but its not whatsoever has to be beaten on T2C to get some decent gear. Its purely there to keep its challengers busy which serves the purpose very well.
I would like to have phase checkpoints aswell..Not sure how it would go along with 30m time limit to beat the encounter tho.
If it was that impossible, how comes that is has already been cleared by so many raid groups?

Lets hope you are talking about T2 and even then the raid groups can't really have been that "professional" as Phase 4 is really not where things get messy. The fight is more or less a cakewalk until Phase 5 sets in, that's where the real trouble begins. T1 is a cakewalk from start to end.

There is no need to finish it on T2 for any kind of "gear". And if you're speaking of T1, get yourself another raid group, seriously.

Again, T1 doesn't need any kind of elite raiding kinship and is actually PUGged regularly with quite moderate succes.
