RoI = Dunland, The gap of Rohan/Heathfells, The pit of iron, The caverns of isengard, Nan Curunir/Ring of Isengard

I found the size of RoI to be just fine, people complained about Nan Curunir being too small but making it bigger would not have made it better. Giving the areas more sound effects, movement (its very static) and ambience would have made it better but size-wise I think it is ok.

I think after the next expansion when we look back on Enedwaith, Dunland, Gap of Rohan, Nan Curunir, and the U6 region we will find this area of middle earth to be just about right in terms of scale compared to the other regions in game.

Can we have some new F2P stuff? Far too much of the game is based on spending money. I had to fork out just to get the quests in the lone lands but I can't afford to be doing it all the time. The next area of quests above my level is (oh, good guess) RL money only. -_-

You don't have to fork out to quest in the Lone Lands, the LL is F2P content for everyone, except for the instance "Inn of the Forsaken".

Be happy you CAN play for free. If Turbine would release more content for free, because people who don't want to pay for the bes game-experience are whining all the time, what benefit would being a VIP still give? And what profit would Turbine make? So stop whining about it.

Sapience cleared this up in post #17 of this thread:

"Sorry for the confusion, the comments made are actually speaking about two different things. We're currently expecting the region to be almost twice the size of Moria, while the expansion itself (the sum of all the parts) will be twice the size of Isengard.

So, bigger space than Moria, more stuff than Isengard. Does that help?"

After SoM failing and RoI not doing much better, Turbine really needs a new expansion to...well...be awesome. If RoR fails, I think the game will see a steady decline.
"Failing"? By what standard? Says who?

Personally, I haven't found much content that I haven't enjoyed. Enough that I'm willing to put $10-$20 a month into turbine points to tweak the alts. So Turbine's business model is working for me. They give me a game I really enjoy, and I don't mind putting a little money into it. Nobody's getting ripped off here. I enjoyed Mirkwood and I enjoyed questing all through Dunland. No complaints here.

I've got to agree. Turbine just keeps getting it right. Sure there are bugs (sorry for the Wardens, ATM!) But I just visited the Stangard Meadhall. WOW! The detail is amazing and the rest of Update 6 appears to be just as great. Turbine, keep up the good work!

Does this expansion also include tier 8 crafting? And mounted combat sounds epic! But will you be able to be on your mount and have a soldier summoned at the same time unlike in housing places?

When can we expect to hear/learn more about the Riders of Rohan expansion?
A trailer would be nice! Its not too early, the 'Hobbit' had its epic trailer done and publiced a year prior to the movie's release. Or at the very least a teaser sort of trailer would be nice

So any news about the expansion? I heard (read) about everyone having a good time and the goodies, the real cloak and the in-game cloak,(do we have any pics of the in-game cloak btw?) sounds great! But no news about Rohan.

    Re: Forth Eorlingas!

I just read this and thought to post it here

Lord of the Rings Online dev on Rohan’s mounted combat and buying horse armour

And something interesting, at least for me is this part :

The warhorses will be a different breed entirely to the mounts you can currently use to get around Middle Earth quicker. The new steeds will be bigger, beefier and tougher, and will come with their own trait system. “you’ll be able to customise their physical appearance and also the abilities that they lend you so they’re a good match for your character and the abilities you have already.”

Customise their appearance? Does this mean we’ll be able to buy horse armour?

“Yeah, absolutely. There will be a variety of customisable options both in the store, and earnable in-game,” said Kate.

Given the pattern in place since last December, I would expect the following schedule:

    6.2 May
    7.0 June
    7.1 July
    7.2 August
8.0 September (this would be RoR)

    Re: Forth Eorlingas!

Looking forward to *interesting* quests without odd moments like ... Frithstan in the Great River region.

Tied to his post and guarded by fiercy orcs I thought he would be happy to see me, but he didn't take any notice of me simply because I hadn't done the prequests and "wasn't allowed" to help him. O.o
By the way, same goes for "using this has no effect" questitems. If I happen to stumble across any odd items I should be allowed to make use of it.

And please don't take us by the hand and force us to do quests in a certain order. I want to chose if I go for the kill 10 boars quest I did on my first char again or pick another one.

Turbine is doing an excellent job recently. I never doubted them since I first played the trial, the criticism they got and endured fascinated me and they still continue to improve. Best ever MMO to be released so far when it comes to socializing. Hopefully mounted combat will be as good as everyone states it will be ;D
    Have a great day all.

Don't know if this is the right place to ask, but does anyone know who has done the concept art of a Rohirrim woman on horseback (presumably Eowyn) that is used on the Warsteeds splash page? I would love to see the original work without the text and things. I follow one of the old Turbine/Codies concept artists (gorrem) on dA but he's the only one I know, and it's not him.

So i havent seen this posted anywhere here on the forums and this seems the right place to do so

    Behold!

The 'Theme for Rohan' by Chance Thomas

    From Chance Thomas,

"I'll never forget my first hearing of the Rohan refrain composed by Howard Shore for 2002's The Two Towers. As the Hardanger melody rang out across the theater, I was completely mesmerized. This was the Rohan of my dreams, suddenly given voice in melody! It was stunningly, intuitively perfect. Of all the themes to be found running through Peter Jackson's trilogy, this one really resonated with me.

Fast forward 10 years. LOTRO has tasked me with creating a theme for their Rohan, a new and different theme than Shore's. What? How is this possible??? Shore's theme was so perfect in the film. The only way I could approach such a task was to think about Rohan in broader terms than the movie presented.

How does one more broadly define Rohan? A storied nation in decline? A land simmering on the verge of all-out war? Anglo-Saxon reference with Medieval overtones? Hearty people, individual and family tenderness, triumph and tragedy, crops and kinships, determined men and women, though wary and weary? Nobility, hope, sadness and uncertainty? Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes! All of these intangibles somehow had to thread themselves through a new theme for Rohan.

And so it begins. The theme is introduced on classical violin played in a Celtic fiddle style. The initial modality is minor, setting up the somber tone. The melody moves on hooks of appoggiatura, so prevalent in Old English music. This places the theme squarely in the Northwestern European tradition, tying it tightly to Tolkien's Anglo-Saxon source material.

Other instruments join the theme, including European Whistle, Bass Recorder and Uillean Pipes. All of these colors come from Northwestern Europe of centuries past, clueing us again that the theme is contemporary to the rise of Anglo-Saxon culture.

The progressing harmonies alternate between minor and major tonalities, suggesting the ongoing struggle of the Rohirrim. Triplet melodies against a 6/4 meter further reinforce the cultural resonance.

As our new theme approaches its apex, there is a strong triumphant modulation toward a sense of ultimate victory. And yet the resolve, though major, is a weak resolve (adding even a suspension to the chord) leaving a fragile uncertainty hanging in the air.

These ample cultural tie-ins and musical devices are certainly geeky. But they're meaningless if the tune fails to transport LOTRO's players to the Rohan of their imaginations while playing the game. Ultimately, this is the test of all thematic music, a test which I hope desperately to pass. Time and taste will tell if I rose to triumph or fell to ruin in my quest to hit the mark."

    ~

In my opinion, this music, certainly ''speaks'' of Rohan and the starting part is really impressive and well done
In my view you have easily passed the test and have succeed in your quest to hit the mark, Chance Thomas
I have been listening to this track over and over again as i play LotRO, its much better than i expected,(although i was sure that Chance wouldnt disappoint us) its epic!

With that said, i still believe nothing (other Rohan related music) can surpass the 'Rohan theme' composed by Howard Shore. As Chance says, i was too, completely mesmerised as the Hardanger melody rang out across the theater.. (at 1.43 on that linked vid)

And to finish with saying that its really nice to have Chance Thomas back in LotRO. He certainly adds quality to the game with his music. Welcome back to Middle-earth!
