Forth Eorlingas!
Hi all!
I’m very excited to finally be able to share with you some exciting news that we will be formally announcing today. This fall, we’ll be releasing our next major expansion, Riders of Rohan!
Riders of Rohan will bring players into this epic region, increase the level cap to 85 and introduce Mounted Combat! Rohan is huge! So huge, that this fall we’ll be introducing the Eastern Plains of Rohan, the largest region we’ve ever introduced (almost twice the size of Moria!) You’ll also be able to explore the Eaves of Fangorn and the fabled Amon Hen, where Boromir was slain and the Fellowship broke up! We can’t go to Rohan without introducing Mounted Combat, which will allow you to fight atop your new mount, the War-steed. Mounted Combat will allow you experience LOTRO in a whole new way!
While fall might seem like a long wait, there is much work to do, and many miles to travel before we arrive. This spring we’ll take our first steps along the path as we add another new region to the game and allow players to explore the shores of the Great River (Free for VIPs!). We’ll also introduce the option to bring Skirmish Soldier along to aid you on your adventures throughout Middle-earth. We can’t wait to share more details with you as the year progresses.
We think you’re going to be very happy with the all that 2012 is shaping up to be!
Very cool, and very exciting! Good job guys, now lets take the last couple of days of communication and keep it rolling. We all want to play this game, and you guys clearly love making it, so lets put the past behind and keep it like this!

It's great we finaly got something to wait for while grinding our way out. Could even reconsider my decision to never put real money on Turbine product again if they succees to deliver some meaningful content prior this next expansion.
I got just one question.... How many times the size of Moria are RoI "3 regions" considered to be?

Ah, I guess this answers my question...

The end of this year is going to be goooooood. Rohan + the Hobbit.
Rohan and mounted combat is all very excellent but what excites me more is Fangorn and Amon Hen. This means we'll get to see the Argonath, right? Additionally, it seems we're getting another new region in Spring - the banks of the Anduin? Is this north of Lothlorien or between Lorien and Amon Hen?

Sorry for the confusion, the comments are actually speaking about two different things. We're currently expecting the region to be almost twice the size of Moria, while the expansion itself (the sum of all the parts) will be twice the size of Isengard.
So, bigger space than Moria, more stuff than Isengard. Does that help?

I really hope that new instances are in the works. One six man instance is pretty bad and there is a long time between now and the fall. I'm glad VIPs will be getting a new zone. I'll probably pass on it and the new instances that are probably going to be tied to it instead the RoI expansion.
So, skirmish soldiers out in the world...wonder if the devs have a little SWTOR envy? I guess imitation is the greatest form of flattery.
Edit: The more I think about the skirmish soldier the more I'm concerned about it. Pets in Lotro are leveled when you level, most pets are two levels behind, legendary ones are 1 level behind or on level, and the wisp is a couple levels ahead. Skirmish soldier only get better by spending marks on their skills. So will we have to skirmish just to increase our new companions abilities or are they going to be tied to a new system. I'm not expecting an answer, just a concern I'm thinking about now. I generally have been all "skirmished out" for awhile and would prefer a more organic (less grindy way) to get a decent companion to quest with. And considering for skraids most of the time it is better to bring a healer you'd have to have a different pet to quest with most likely than skraid with. So more grind if they only level using marks and you need multiple companion types with you.

Wow. Definitely wasn't expecting an announcement on that so soon. I'm a bit concerned with the skirmish soldier thing, I have to admit. I'm just thinking about how laggy it'll be with that many "pets" out. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
Taking our skirmish soldier out into the real world? That sounds like an intriguing possibility, but I wonder if that is going to further reduce the desire for people to group up. Or does that mean that Rohan will be more difficult to do without help from your soldier or another player? Seems like it would make soem of the in-game content ridiculously easy, as if some of it isn't easy enough to begin with. I hope they don't allow them in the moors.
Leveling up our war horse and equipping it? Is this going to be the LI mess all over again, or is it going to be done right, where we'll actually keep one horse the whole time and not have to keep replacing it?
Seeing the breakup of the fellowship at Amon Hen? Can that be done without breaking the lore? Something just doesn't strike me as quite right about that.
But the huge amount of content, new quests, new level cap- sounds like there may be some good stuff there. At least one new landmass in the Spring as well... some reason for optimism.
New forums are coming!! Goto this link for details
Firefoot: Elendale (hunter) Galorlas (champ) Grimlaff (warden) Corny (warg)
I dont know how I feel about the solider bit. Seems that LMs (and captains) don't have the 'special' thing anymore with their pets. They also have their own little army then with the solider and their pets.

I feel the same way. I'm not sure if I like this idea or not.
Yeah... I'm pretty leary about that as well. It sounds like another LI system, which I'm really going to dislike if it involves a lot of grind. Plus I just worry about everyone looking almost exactly alike. I hope there's enough cosmetic customization to make the horses as nice as some of the others we have now.

One of our largest expansions ever, Rohan is expected to be twice the size of the recent Rise of Isengard expansion and includes the most new game systems and technology we've introduced since 2008's Mines of Moria.”
so twice the size of moria
or twice the size of isengard expansion?

Not the same things. I think you're reading more into that than was said.

I am so gonna make a bannerguard out of my skirmish soldier when that expansion hits O_O the dream of a pocket cappy will finally (almost) come to truth?
I cant wait to test in beta! Skirm soldiers in middle earth? There are some legitimate concerns about it. Esp having to possibly grinding skirms to lvl them. Mine is a capped herbalist so the grind wont be bad if it is one. Mounted combat is intriguing. I cant wait for beta to test it. So fall is when the warden fiasco gets fixed?
