New to the jeweller crafting here. And I was wondering what's most effective for leveling up. As I was looking to apprentice level, I noticed that you only gain 1.5 jeweller experience per ore used. That seems very low if you ask me! 400 copper ores only to max out tier 1 crafting?? What kind of hell will it be for higher tiers when you need the rare one of the 2 ores available for jeweller ..
In my experience, polishing gems is a good way to raise your crafting skills. The raw gems do drop a lot, especially those for the higher tiers. Plus, the symbols you craft for the jeweller's guild give decent experience as well, although you have up to six days cooldown on those.
Yeah, it gets real easy once you can make the symbols. For the lower levels I just crafted a bunch of trash jewelry, and the Apprentice Jeweller Expertise Recipe, Journeyman Jeweller Expertise Recipe which you can get at the skirmish camps.
I agree with Hallamund. Go with polishing gems as much as you can. I haven't had to do low level crafting for a while but gems used to be fairly cheap on the AH, since they are relatively abundant (due to the number of people mining nodes) and no one else really has much use for them.
And if you think copper is bad, wait til you get to silver (T2). Or Khazad Copper (T6). Definintely try to pick up as many gems as you can. Crafting trash jewelery (the cheapest pieces in terms of mats) is also good (as Disparia noted).
The one draw back to turning in symbols is that the largest ones on any tier, which give the most experience (and have the longest cooldowns), are used to make the best jewelry on that tier. And having the best jewelery is presumably why you became a jeweler in the first place.

Just as a sidenote: Crafting the symbol gives you crafting experience, which is what you want when you try to max out your crafting skills. Turning them in with the jeweller's guild gives you reputation with those guys (and one lady, iirc), but you don't get crafting xp for that.
Jeweler is very easy because of the abundance of gems to polish. As you level up, you can make Hope Tokens for crafting experience. You use these tokens all the time for a combat buff. Once you reach tier 5, you reach the maximum bonus for a Hope Token. People are always wanting +5 Hope Tokens. Many people will have the materials, they would love for someone to slave away at the work bench making the tokens while they do a more fun activity.
Unless stated otherwise, all content in this post is My Personal Opinion.
Actually T2/3 are the worst, copper is fairly easy to get, but neither silver/gold nor opals/bloodstones/rubies/sapphires are
At T4 to T7 it´s really easy again, as gems drop everywhere, I got a maxed jeweller before my Prospector finished T4, due to no need to mine as much
I concur. Tier 1 is really easy. Plus, you'll most likely get the 21 apprentice crafting packs, with which you can craft 21 runestones. That's 126 free xp already. After that try to not use up any copper, but stick to gems instead.
Ingots are in high demand, at least on my server. The cost of buying sufficient gems to complete an entire tier is easily covered by selling the ingots you'd have normally used, especially at tier 2 and 3. Silver and gold are very hard to come by. 10ingots easily sell for several gold. While Sapphire, Ruby, Opal or Bloodstone aren't the easiest of gems to find on the Auction House, you'll end up spending a lot less buying those.
Time for you to park an alt at the Auction House and buy any and all gems required
Gems are the best way to level your jeweler hands down, plus you will need polished gems for making jewelery and for guild experiance. rubies and up drop allot, just not from ore nodes. if you are high enough level that mobs wont attack you, loot chests and corpses. find a routine for ore or chests where the first spot you looted has respawned before you got back to it. repeat until it makes you puke and repeat some more. everything you gather is usefull to someone and some are willing to trade.
but having a kin with non jewelers that are the level you are grinding will help tons, ask them to send you all gems they get and you will polish them and send them back.
Anyway.. work the gems and save the hard to get ore for when you need it. nothing like farming 64 rich iron ore and 3 gold ore when you need 8 gold ingots.
