Food effects need to last longer

Ok I know it's difficult to cite real life with a fantasy game, but really... a fully cooked meal that only lasts for FIVE minutes?? That's ridiculous. Does everyone in middle earth have the metabolism of a hummingbird? Cooked food should last for half an hour, and arguably the buff should persist through death. Crit food for 45-60 minutes. Maybe then people would really take a shine to buying food. As it stands, I rarely use the stuff because for most fights it won't even last long enough to be worth it, and most raid fights you're in combat too long to re-apply it if you bothered using it in the first place. The sad thing is, I have a Westfold cook and I don't even bother eating or making food most of the time!

Using food in the moors? Forget about it. The food may last 5 minutes (10 for crit), but most of the time if you're involved in a fight you get killed and then that nice food you used is gone. I really only buy destiny perks, since it lasts longer and through death. It shouldn't be that way. Cooks spend an awful lot of time and money making this stuff, especially if they have a farmer where they farm their own ingredients. How about making the product appealing for people to actually use???

I'd be happy with normal food lasting 15 minutes. And critted food lasting 1/2 hour.

I do agree that it is way too short as it is.

Progress demands development of individuality; mediocrity seeks perpetuation in standardization.

Frankly, I don't think I'd want the effects of the Soup That Shall Not Be Named staying with me for long periods of time.

At every tier, except 7, there's a food that lasts 1/2 an hour that effects only out of combat regen. It's quite intentional that in combat regens are only 5 minutes. You're not supposed to need it 100% of the time. And if you DO, well, you're gonna pay for it. As it stands now, I use food only under very rare circumstances, right before I think I'll need the boost. A single stack will last me a month or more. Reevaluate what you're doing if you need it all the time. Odds are, you're doing it wrong.

As for the buff lasting through death.... are you just trolling now? Go out, in the real world, die, and see how long that last meal you ate lasts. You were comparing it to real world stuff earlier, so please experiment with this and let us know what happens.

Not sure why you're so fixated on making the game seem like real life. If that were the case, no magic would work, all swords would do the same kind of damage (belegrand damage??), and death would be forever. I also wouldn't be able to carry 20 sets of armor with me if I wanted to.

Comparing any fantasy MMO to real life will get you no where fast. If you want to be OP, just say so.

Re: Food effects need to last longer

The problem is the way it's labeled. A fully cooked meal, that contains tons of vegetables, full cuts of meat, and everything else that would sustain someone for hours lasts five minutes. However, a piece of bread lasts for twenty? It makes no sense. And since you went off on a real-life tangent that I was supposedly using as an argument, I clarified in the very first sentence that comparing real life to a game that has flying dragons and wizards isn't really much of an argument. But hey, if you want to read with your forum blinders on so you see things the way you want to, knock yourself out. I'm certainly not fixated on making this post about real-life, as you seem to think I am.

There isn't any other MMO that I've played where food effect durations last as ridiculously short. It should be a way for players to augment their playstyle, whether they like bumping their agi a bit, their vit, a particular resist and their favorite type of regen (in-combat vs. out of combat.) It would also encourage people to use consumables and help sustain the economy, as well as give cooks and farmers a real reason to put effort into what they do.

And no, I am not trolling about buffs lasting through death. Destiny perks last through death. Why not something you spent in-game money on? If the buff lasted through death I wouldn't be as annoyed with the short duration. But as it stands, it just adds insult to injury.

Lastly, I don't know why you're so angry sounding. You act like I'm killing kittens because I'm dissatisfied with food duration.

i'd agree with a significant increase in duration. Right now as things are there's absolutly no point to the cooks guild. You can't make trail foods and the quantaties of ingredients and cooked food made aren't worth speaking off. You'll burn through the quater stack of cooked food in less than a days [play if you've got the full day to work with, a couple of days of play if your short on play time. You practiclly need 3-4 cooks just to keep one character supplied.

I'd also STRONGLY disagree that food is just for the odd situation. Most of my current toons, (champ seems to be main exception), need it to get by for various reasons. My squishies need the ICMR in case anything goes wrong, (it really can be the diffrance between life and death in a close fought fight that pulls in unexpected adds due to their length), and my cappy used to littrialy live and die on ICPR. These sorts bassiclly require a continual supply of food to function. Some classes can of course be tottaly self dependent, in particular both tanks, minnies and RK's seem to be able to get by pretty well without as they natrually stack up on will so their power pools are so huge as is their OOCPR they don't go out of power in long fights so easily, and their durabiolity and/or self heals keep their health topped off nicely. Not to mention wardens having a power restore. But some classes really need constant supplies to function well.

Re: Food effects need to last longer

The "real life" argument is really just a plea for versimillitude. THe effects--where the cause mirrors RL--should reflect what happens in RL.

Obviously magic can't do that, but food can.

Since a "day" in LoTRO is just over 3 hours in RL, asking that a meal last for 45 minutes would be realistic. It would not, however, suit what Turbine appears to feel is proper game play.

As it is, I have 3 Master of the Guild/Westfold Master Yeomen. They can each make a half-stack of critted food per week using Guild recipes. I can--and do when I want to--run with food buff on continuously.

A 15 minute buff would be great. As it is I only ever bother with trail foods and the foods that last 10 minutes. Please do consider making the buffs at the least last 15 minutes. Give my cook a reason to dirty up some pots and pans.

Re: Food effects need to last longer

Agree with most everything that's been said here, and just wanted to add my two cents. I haven't even bothered making any cooked food from the normal recipe since I got my first character involved with the cooks guild. Of course, it really would be nice if the guilds were suddenly able to provide crit recipes for the trail foods, but that's not likely to happen. The only time I ever use the critting items is for trail food, which I often process in stacks of 50-100... this is also one reason why I've been seriously considering leveling my main cook to cap. Trail food is decent for the buff amount and duration when not critted, but with the double for both duration and buff it's nice to have those crit foods.

As for cooked food, 5 minutes is pointless, and if you're planning on even using cooked food to augment your regens, you might as well go with the one cooked food with the highest IC regens, because otherwise it's a waste of resources and time. On the other hand, if all you're looking for is the OOC regens, then by all means, do what you'd like.

On to the third food, Fortifying. Since the update that changed fortifying food and consolidated resistances, there doesn't seem to be any reason to carry, or even make more than one type of fortifying food. The variant +2% resistance only has a point if you tend to gain that debuff more often, although it can also depend on what you're planning on facing. But as far as duration on that goes, it's fine. Nothing to change there on something that's not as neccessary all the time. (Besides, it's easier to carry around a full stack of the draughts.
