Thread: What is new in the store, armors?????

Never seem people complain that there is no low level gear on the AH. I stop making it as it never sold, even when putting it on for the vendor price.

I think this is a huge mistake and another bold face lie

I expressed the general player concern over whether the store will give the moneybags-player too much of a leg up over others. I was told that they're being careful not to offer any unbalancing buffs or items -- for example, Turbine decided from the start that the store would not sell gear with any stats attached. There will, however, be purchasable tomes that give your character a one-time bump in a particular stat (such as vitality), but these bonuses are more designed to aid a low-level character than a level-capped one.

I too must state my disappointment in this decision. Even if the gear were for Level 5 characters, you are breaking the player-based game economy with this. It's one of the delicate things about MMOs with crafting, people who invest time in training up their crafting skills with the intent of making a quasi-business out of them typically do so to fill a demand.

Any players who are stating they have trouble finding armor at lower levels shouldn't be given paid armor, they should be given better in-game advice how to seek out better gear in-game (see how often I said in-game there?)

If lack of supply is the issue and the gear is only good for low levels why not just add it the armour vendors in Bree and let people buy it with gold?

If you were selling in the store Lev 75 gear that only drops in raids I may believe that many players may have suggested, listen LOTRO we are lev 75 but dont have time to raid 20+ times to get a piece of armor and we want you to put these armors in the store, I may for a minute said you know what that is believable but level 20 gear??? Gimme a break, my crafters are right now crafting level 58 gear, any level entry player that joins a kin can get a good well crafted level 20 gear.

Who are you kidding? Gimme a break we are not 10 years old.

So, I applaud your decision to kick start the gear market on your server. Options are what it's all about.

Just thought of another point on this. You say you've introduced this gear because of a lack of crafted gear. What happens when new players don't bother upgrading their crafting skills because they can just buy gear that's as good/better. Then they get a little higher level, and there's no crafted gear available there, because no one bothered with it because they could just buy the gear from the store. Will you then add more gear for those level ranges, then higher and higher as it continues?

Did these lower level players ask around in chat channels for any crafters that could help make them gear? Most people when crafting at that level normally only make crit armor for themselves and then grind the rest of the crafting level to get to the next tier. If I see people are asking for gear in chat channels, I'll generally help them out with whatever they want.

I strongly disapprove of this move to sell gear in the store with stats; yes, it's low level stuff now, but who's to say where the line stops now?

Right now I am level 54 and I can tell you that at least in m y server there ARE NOT decent gear that you can buy from the AH better than what I already have so listen LOTRO I want some Excellent Gear Level 54 so I can replace the gear I have and you can go to Imladris AH and check and you will see I am telling you the truth about quality gear level 54. So where do we draw the line?

regardless of stated intentions....
(we all know from past experiences that no matter what the reps say, if a suit decrees it, it will happen)

i am worried that if these sell even slightly well, we will eventually see purple, teal and orange gear.

Doesn't this really mean a sparcity of gear, period? If there were decent gear available through normal gameplay, then players wouldn't need to go to the AH. Mentioning the AH is a misdirection. If the problem is not enough gear at XYZ level, then it should be fixed by normal methods.

QFT like for example quests that give you a whole set of armor or whole set of jewelery like already exists at higher levels, or make those sets that already exist in the skirmish easier to obtain (with less requirements or less cost)

I agree, but I think that you, I, and many others in this thread have a different idea of what a "normal method" is to fix an alleged problem in LOTRO than do the people who have been deciding what "fixes" to implement.

I rarely, if ever, see people offering up free crit gear in chat. Also, I have a level 28 Champ on Crickhollow, who is not a crafter. I looked on the AH a few days back for some decent crit gear, as I've amassed a decent amount of gold already, and there was NOTHING crit anywhere from the mid-twenties to 28.

exactly...i cannot tell you how many times i put low level stuff on the ah and see it come back to me unsold.

even at below cost prices.

this is just another way to make the crafter obsolete

I have seen many people offering free gear no crit is true, but if you ask around in the general chat and you are willing to pay, many people will craft it for you.

And I have the exact opposite experience both on Elendilmir where I've listed the things that I've made many times and always sold them and then on Crickhollow where I've put up crit gear I've won in the lotto and didn't need and those always sell.

Have you yourself asked for a crafter to make gear for you? If not, you should...there is more than likely someone out there who would make gear.

Let's turn this around a bit. The game is now nearing it's five year anniversary. Many, many, many people have reached max level during these years. So this means the gear currently in the game is good enough to get through the levels.

So why these ridiculously priced pieces in store?

My own guess is to gather data for the push to sell gear at all levels in future.

Exactly what levels are these armors equipable at? I'd like to make an honest comparison with crafted gear but I'm not sure how these tiers translate to player level.

I can't believe this has arrived at the store. What a low blow. Simply disgusting work.

I ask kinsmen on my main server when I need something, sure. But I'm not willing to sit around waiting for some random crafter to gather up the mats necessary (if they don't have them), then make everything, when I don't have a lot of time to play. I'm an instant gratification kind of gal, so if it's not on the AH or I don't have a friend willing to make it for me and send it to me later, I won't bother. Granted, I also won't buy it from the store out of principle. /shrug

While it may only be newbie gear at the moment, it WILL evolve into end-game someday. How do I know? They originally said they would not place items with stats on them in the LotRO Store but they did that. What's to stop them when they start making money off the low level stuff from making high level stuff? P2W FTW! I'm guessing no GM will reply to this thread, or try to shed light, since they really do not care about the community.

Idk, if you believe this forum, this game has been in its death throes since beta.

There is only one thing to do now. Craft our collective butts off and flood all AHes with good in-game gear.

I'll add my vote against this as well. The word was there would not be advantage or gear sold in the store. This directly violates both of those, and sets a very bad precedence and opening move later on.

There's not lower level gear on the AH? Gee, I don't think there's enough high end and raid level gear on the AH either. Does that mean it should be added to the store as well? NO!

Gear does not belong in the store. Period. At all. Ever. And I frankly don't care what level it is.

All I can see this doing is preying on those just starting who haven't figured out that gear at those levels is replaced in about 15 minutes of paytime anyways as you level up and complete those entry quests that provide decent enough as it is. Those levels don't need to buy gear- they get it as quest rewards. And it just sets it up to offer at higher levels as well. Bad move.

Granted I try to ignore the Store as much as possible but... I got an Ad saying they are going to sell Armour in the store for TP. Is this a new option for the store or has it been there all along?

I see Light, Medium and Heavy for sale.

Ah, but the trick is that suddenly, once you begin to worry, you realize that all the other reasons to worry that you dismissed were probably legitimate causes for worry as well.

Speaking as a long-time EVE player, I'm all too familiar with staring into the giant gaping pit of the hell that is people being able to pay real money for in-game items. CCP (EVE's developer) learned their lesson and backed away from it after enough vehement community feedback. Turbine/WB have an important choice to make here, it's becoming clear (not just from these forums but from internet reaction in general) that there is going to be very little support, and most likely a lot of vitriol over this decision.

You must choose... but please choose wisely. LotR:O is one of the few MMOs left that I always come back to check in on (and spend money on).

We don't quite have a means of protest available to us with nearly the impact that EVE players do - if the story I've heard is true, mass numbers of you gathered together to bombard and blow up the main space station in the game (something the devs can't just "respawn")?

Now, if we had the ability to overwhelm the Watchers of Bree and torch the town, then maybe our objections would actually matter to those in power.

There is a striking lack of players providing feedback in this thread about the scarcity of low-level gear on their servers' auction houses and their desire for an additional purchasing option.

I have nothing good to say about this potential development, and I hope Turbine will reconsider its implementation.

A discussion about items in the LOTRO Store is more on topic in the LOTRO Store forum. You act as if the topic was deleted, or locked, or shoved in a place no one can go. "General Discussion" is much busier, yes, but that means any topic in here gets dropped to page 2 - never to be seen again - all the quicker.
