But seriously, I only been in the game for like 2 seconds and I already found the pve more fun than this crapshoot. Also, the interactive cinematic stuff makes it so much more entertaining, and the pvp from what my friends said is awesome... Man, lotro is done LOLOOLOL!

Enjoy 'Wow with lightsabers'. Btw is this Lotro killer 14 or 15? I remember Aion, Rift, AOC and that DC heroes game. I know there were more that have slipped my mind.

League of Legends is the only game that's taken a significant part of the player base at any time... and that was the only one that so far had not been hyped as a LotRO killer.

Now, I'll tell you the reason WHY star wars is a lotro killer. You nubs do realize that Star Wars has a high fan base like lotr... You could argue that they are prolly at least equal in fan-likeability. A game that is GOOD with a HIGH fan-base=lotro killer. I've been seeing a lot of ppl like that game better than lotro already in 2 days in swtor LOLOLOL, u mad? Have fun in this spiraling potential-filled pos game.

People will leave, but people will come back. The reason is simple. LOTRO is free. It's why I just came back. Every MMO out there Rift, Aion, LOTRO, SWTOR are just wow clones. Yes the genres are different and there are minor tweaks with certain systems, but all in all the gameplay is very similar. They've all been dumbed down to the point where there is no challenge except for high end raid content. I feel like a sheep being herded from one area to the next and I just refuse to pay for that anymore. I LOVE Star Wars. More than any movie or genre out there. I'm a huge Star Wars nerd. But I refuse to pay for a game that is WoW in space. And from everything I've read and from all my friends I've talked to that were in the beta, there is NOTHING in the game that breaks away from the current bland trend except for the cinematic quests, and that will get old with time.

I'm done paying a monthly fee for a game until someting like the original SWG comes out. Something where I can go anywhere and do anything I like, with true objective based open world pvp; something that crafters can actually use smarts are hard work to make a product worth buying above everyone else's. Sure Lotro has none of that, but hey it's free, so I'll be playing it part time.

Since you obviously care enough to have created this thread, why don't you break down for me what is so ground-breakingly awesome and different in SWTOR, than no other games have offered.

I don't think lotro is doomed but it will take a hit from actual subscribers. It's just my guess but I figure lotro actually makes more from selling Turbine Points than it does from it's subscriptions.
If they don't do something like the Moria Expansion, bring some of the promised mechanics into the game (Mounted Combat), upgrade the weakining content to compete with the type of content offered in SWTOR and do something about the limited PVP, then they will suffer in the longterm when the FTP'rs start to burn out. I watched it happen with other games in my long history of MMO's.

There will always be a die-hard base that stick through it all as Servers become ghost towns and end up combining. Expansions become fewer with even less content. I already see the trend with how weak the last two expansions have been in comparison to Moria and before.

Lotro still has some of the most beautiful artwork of any MMO out and no one loves the epic story of the Hobbits tale more than I do. With that said, while I admire the dedication of those who will end up being the die-hards til the bitter end, I don't think I'll join you. Been there, done that and got the T-shirt. I won't do it again.

No, LOTRO won't go out in flames to an abrupt end. Instead it will slowly fizzle out. It is a business after all where short term gains take priority and too few to make the long term investments to make the game into what it could have been.

That's where SWTOR is unique, it's been six years in the making with the emphasis on content and story. Every single mission you go out on to kill this or collect that has a strong purpose and story behind it. You do them to progress the story more so than to just level up or grind for better gear or weapons.

Six years? Maybe someone truely realizes that there can be a long term investment in an MMO? What we are seeing is a lot of research and investment that is taking what is most successful in other MMO's and combining it with some very new ideas. So yes, it does have features that resemble other game, but do realize, after six years in development, the launch and beta are only the crust of what is to come.

I hope I'm wrong, no one would love to see the Hobbits rise more than I. I can only dream that lotro will rise to the challenge but it's not up to us. It's up to the stockholders and investors.

Only time will tell how good a new MMO really is. How people feel about it now is besides the point. Of course it's better now. That's because it's new. People like new. People like different. Will it still be good in a year from now when it's not new? Will PvP balance be completely lopsided? Will the grind end up being completely worse than lotro? Will nerd rage forum posts completely alter the game into the wrong direction? All question marks that time can only answer... not first impressions.

I like Star Wars too, until they made the prequels. Silly George and his terrible prequels. I'm still a fan of the old movies though, before they added the digital nonsense to them.

this is my be all end all mmo - if i stop playing this im done. ill go back to ps3. mmos are a lifesuck. maybe after my kid gos to college and if i didnt have a woman id find the time for an mmo. MMO's are like a girlfriend, without the ######.

Im almost level 30 now in swtor (kind a big deal what ever) but from all the other games I thought would take over the mmo market swtor has the most potential, pve,pvp,crafting is all polished, the game is sick.

That guy can review my bungholio and give it a nice sniff. All I'm saying is the prequel movies werent as good as they should have been, but they werent overly bad as everyone makes them out to be. Like I said, it was mostly the fault of one terrible Canadian (not surprising ) actor and bad dialogue here and there that made the prequel series not as good as they should have been.

They were overly bad.

Did you even watch the reviews? I don't think you did. George was good in his day but that's long gone. He should have left his franchise where it was.

No, because I don't need that fartknockers review to change my opinion. I didn't think they were overly bad, but werent as good as they should have been or as good as the prequels. People over-exaggerate how bad they were, like I said, you can blame it on the main component, that being the fault of a Canadian, typical :P! Well, if he didn't get careless with the prequels, they would have been good, but it be dumb for him to just leave it as is. I personally was a sucker for the Episode II love story zomggg, save the cheesy dialogue here and there.
