I have pretty limited feedback. I renewed my subscription this Friday to level my Hunter from 66-75. I just got to level 75 last night before logging off. After playing all weekend I did not see a single Box or Key drop from any mob. Then, as I was logging off of my Hunter, I went to check on my level 75 Warden who has been dormant for some time now (2 months). Low and behold he had one of these Boxes in his inventory. How? I do not know. I sold it right away for 100G though. I would have loved to have obtained one while I was out grinding on my Hunter though. Kind of disappointed that I did not see one.
Since I'm a realist, I'm ok with what you may get. Sure I would love to get a WSotEK over a rune of some sort. I'd be thrilled if the rewards were a bit better overall, but, it is what it is. A chance to get something good. A CHANCE.
I got a key and a lootbot over the weekend and ended up with a damage scroll and a ring that I probably won't use. It would be nice if the stuff was bound to account and not to a character.
What would really be cool is if there were more horses, some cool housing items and cosmetics, stuff like that along with the chance of a symbol and maybe some Sigils or whatnot. Stuff all classes can use.
BTW, would anyone here be complaining if they got a Worn Elder King Symbol? Didn't think so.
As somebody said above, every person who could push a button played the Treasure Hunt...
I didn't play it. I also don't expect anything or any number of loot boxes from Turbine. I got one on Friday (first one) and it was a bonus. Period.
Why do people get so frustrated over this stuff? The insults fly that the developers don't care, don't do anything correctly. If the EXTRA BONUS STUFF THAT GETS ADDED ONCE IN WHILE bothers players THAT MUCH stop trying so hard.
You used to grind 500 mobs to get a deed. Now you might get a bonus item. Somebody else wrote that a 80k item xp rune was...a joke? Seriously? That is the same as levelling an LI to about level 30 or so? Or how many skirmishes? Or how many daily repeatables? But it's junk? I guess some folks will never be happy.
Killed 400 wargs, probably 3-400 humanoids outside of isengard, and a few dozen goblins when they got in the way of the slaughter. Not one lootbox the entire time. And this was during the double chance event of this weekend.
I played the same way over the weekend as I do regularly. Admittedly, I'm not high enough level to be searching for top end items, but I don't see the anxiety to grind. Last week I found my first and only loot box and found a key during the same play time. I wasn't looking for it, just found it. That's, in my opinion, is the idea behind the lootboxes----just a chance at a little extra something. No one said we had to grind for hours to find one and no one said we had to pay TP to get a key. Yes, it is tempting to get in a hurry and not want to wait to find out what we have. (Anybody besides me want to open Christmas presents early? ) But if we grind or spend, WE are the ones who make the decision to do so. We are not forced to do it in order to continue playing.
As far as the lootboxes themselves, the one I found was nice. It wasn't spectacular, but it was a bonus. I think, as long as boxes and keys drop at about the same rate, it's a good addition.
Since the loot boxes were added, I had found two in total. With a slight increase in play time this last weekend, I found two more. Still no keys though.

Four Lootboxes dropped in Misty Mountains last night (40-49) in a ten minute period of time out where the Guaradan are. One had a nice BoE Loremaster staff, very sweet. Gave it to my daughter for her 42 LM. The others has Lossoth rep items only in them. I would say that the store cost of the keys is too high at this point. I don't mind getting rep items only, my alts can use those. I do think the rarity of the keys though is an issue and the store cost is not worth it.
I would have no problem at all if the jewelry/weapon loot was Bind on Account. Leave the rep items unbound. This might be something the devs want to look into.

The impression I get is that the different levels of boxes drop at different rates. I'm looking only for L70 + boxes and saw none before the weekend and none during them and I've killed untold amounts of mobs in that time. Didn't expect to as the drop rate seems non-existent and non-existent*10 is still non-existent.
Given that the drop rate is so low the very least Turbine should do is ensure they contain something both worthwhile and usable to the player.
And if you're going to call something an Event and publicise it then the drop rate should be significant enough to reward people who take part. At least at the rate of cracked sigils where you can be pretty certain one will drop in a couple of hours looting chests.
Just got a Level 60 to Level 69 Loot Box. Whoo Hoo!! Opened it and there were (2) Tier 2 Orc Hewer Titles......Really? Thats loot? You can get a Tier 3 Title in Dolven View in a repeatable instance which is what I have applied to both my Bow & Sword. These things should be special or different. I.e. A fire damage Title, or a Morale absorbing Title, a scroll that lets you have two slayer types on your LI, unique Jewelry etc. Nothing unbalancing, just things that are more than Vendor Trash, that add to the uniqueness of your character. It would really add to the experience if Turbine would improve these things.
For me, both these lootboxes and the Treasure Hunt are tied for Least Fun Things To Do in the game.
I've played quite a bit lately, and found about a dozen lootboxes of varying levels, and no keys.
Considering my experience in the Treasure Hunt, working my rear-end off for the privilege of opening a "Huge" cache that contained a whole lot of nothing, I don't plan on spending TP for a key.
Thanks to the many posters on different threads who've been listing their consistently less-than-exciting rewards for opening these lootboxes.

Reason: (nothing's forever)
Personally, I'm hoping there's a fix to these piece-o-#### lootboxes in the morning's patch.
All the 70/75 lootboxes I've opened (and one 75/75), have granted me more upset, frustration, disappointment and grief than anything else. And that increased all the more when I thought about the in-game gold I wasted on lootboxes and keys, as in all my hours and hours of grinding mobs (on the increased weekend and on occasion since), I barely managed to find 2 or 3 lootboxes on my own and zero keys. To add to that disgust, I wasted turbine points for one key when there were none in the AH with buyouts.
That said, if there's not a fix in the patch, I sure hope they're formulating a plan and will be communicating it to us shortly. Until then, any lootboxes I may get will likely be hoarded in the deep, dark depths of my inventory...filed next to boar parts or something else equally unenticing.
Got one of the new lootboxes? Have some thoughts on them? Please leave your opinions and feedback here on the new lootboxes.
The Lootboxes have become a suckers deal. At first keys drop all over, you let a few worn kings fragments drop so everyone wants a lootbox, then the keys stop dropping and now lootboxes drop all over and issue junk. I've gotten a token, a cosmetic circlet, level 60 potions for a lvl 75 toon out of 5 lootboxes. Dropping junk is fine but not when you are charging 100tp to open them. These are the kind of things that turn people off to the game and go elsewhere. If you are going to drop lootboxes in a lvl 75 area then it better have level appropriate loot if you are going to charge tp to open it.
So far we got 3 high level loot boxes, but opened only one with junk in it, we wait with the other 2 until they change the loot again.
Also we looted a few lowere level ones and a total of 11 keys.
So far I didn't bother to open any low level boxes, will do so when my next char arrives at level 60.
But I stopped hoping that something good will come out of it.
I'm a bit confused on how these work. I had a level 20 toon get a lootbox. I've never seen a key drop, ever. (I'm at 7 boxes, zero keys). And, he was out of TP to buy a key. (side note, the keys are starting to feel like stat tomes... sure, they exist... we think)
So with my level 20-something out of TP he just kept the boxes in his inventory. He dinged 30 and the boxes turned red. The boxes clearly state min level 20 max level 29... but that only made sense to me in context of what is INSIDE the box.
If the boxes can drop cosmetics and mounts, why are we gating who can open them?
My feedback... any toon should be able to open a box, it is up to that person to make sure they know what they are doing. Additionally, the cost of a key should be lowered to 50 TP (alternatively, the drop rate needs to be increased. If you take down 50,000 mobs and never see a key... either the rate is too low or the cost is too high).

If you have Shared Storage, you can transfer the box to another lower level character to open. But yea, I can see where there might be a tad confusion on the level indicator on the box. I too assumed it was "content" level.
I just re-started a couple weeks ago, & decided to play a Warden. I managed to get a lootbox at some point while I was leveling up in the Shire. Since I didn't have a key, & didn't want to spend 100TPs to get one, I put it in my vault & went back to leveling. I still haven't found a key. After reading this thread, I don't care if I find a key or not -- apparently, I've already outleveled the box?
Can I sell the box? Can you buy keys from the AH?
Edit: had the TP cost of keys incorrect.

Fare you well ... let your life proceed by its own design
Nothing to tell ... let the words be yours, I'm done with mine.
i have opened 12 lootboxes since now..i am very very dissapointed..not just because i didnot get the worn elder symbol..
First of all lootboxes should contain some loot ,not some &^$# things like a title that is completly worthless. At least give a title good enough so i can use it ,not vendor it..Second thing for example i am a hunter and i find from lootboxes jewels with will and fate?WT* should i do the will and fate?i need agility..Third the jewels for example are bounded,so if i find items not for my class ,or even i find jewels for my class (but i wear better) i cannot sell them..
I also believe they were made numerous updates on the lootboxes without mentioned..
Dear turbine i was grinding 1 week and killed lik 3000 mobs and luckly got a lootbox and spent 100 TP for the key and what i got was a patch 10x that is very unfair for a RARE lootbox on creepside ...... SHAME ON YOU ..... Like it would cost you more to make 100% sigil drop from lootbox
Haven't opened any loot box yet that contained anything that was actually worth having gone to the effort of opening the box, apart from a decent-sized IXP rune in one that I'll count as "almost decent". The one that really pissed me off the most so far? Opening a level range 40-49 box and finding the only thing in it was level 30 food. Which is bound to the character, not the account, so I can't even send it to one of my level 30s characters who might actually use it. Food, meet destroy button...
Seriously, if you're putting in rewards that are bound to the character, make sure they're actually of the right level range to be useful please!
Got my first lootbox a few days ago, from Moria while taking another character through it. Never had one drop before, not that I was seeking for one. Since no key I sold it AH.
Only way I'd use 100TP on a key was if it droped either ordinary or worn symbol of Elder King or something along these lines, such as stat tomes, relic removal scroll etc. And I do mean if such good things would drop for certain.
Otherwise, I rather save TP to permanently improve my character.
Very interesting if Monday's patch will fix lootboxes and how will they work then.
Also - does this food from lootboxes stack with other, crafted food? Interesting. If it doesn't then it's utter junk. If it does, it would actually be useful on rare occasions.
32 hours farming lootboxes in the last 3 days - 7 lootboxes (lvl 70 - 75) and the BEST piece of gear to date from them is an 87,000 XP rune - I've gotten 5 damage scrolls for LIs (4 were the same) and a tier 7 set of power pots. Sure sounds like really nice 70 - 75 loot. One of those lootboxes actually gave me a lootbox that, upon opening, gave me one of my 4 similar damage scrolls. Well you got me to spend my gold on keys in the AH for worthless boxes.
At least I know that Mondays work had nothing to do with the loot boxes....
my friend opened a box for me it had a brand in it and i didnt get any help from anyb
my friend bought a key for me from the store opened it and it had a brand i sent in a ticket and they did nothing i traded him the lootbox but the thing was bound
Lootbox loot should absolutely be bound to 'account', not to player. So many folks I know have gotten decent gear that would have been okay for their 'other' character.
First, ive only gotten two in the last two months (and both were this week). They were both &&&& - one had some ok one-use tomes for resistances and the other had rings in it worth about 600 points of rep with the Elves of Rivendell. For me, loot box drop rates and quality of items was much better before update 6.
As soon as they idiot proof something, the others send in some slack-jawed, drooling stooge to gum up the works.
To date I have recieved five loot boxes, two I still haven't opened as I don't have a key yet for them. However I'm not really fussed with opening them in any case due to the loot found in the previous three. Mostly just travel maps, and deed tomes. I can't fathom why these loot-boxs are level gated either with the rewards that is in them. Maybe there is some really neat stuff but I'm yet to see any.
Documentation from Turbine that "good" items WILL BE installed in the Lootboxes ? WHEN, if possible ? 3 boxes with poor to very poor items in them. Are they a "rare drop" ? Then PUT RARE DROP ITEMS in them. Sadly, comments of.... " Whoa dude, what a bunch of lame junk " is the norm for these. Auction House fodder is what they are turning into anymore. An actual response from Turbine would be appreciated ( I think by all ) referencing installed items in the lootboxes.
