The only way I've known to see the dates for festivals is to check the community calendar.
The festivals typically only get added to the calendar a week or two before they start.
Additionally, I've noticed the calendar is getting filled with things that I'm not sure belong on that calendar. One event just says kin instance run. No mention of kin, server, instances... just "kin instance run". Dherndwarth is posted for every single day for the rest of time.
I noticed there is a Calendar picker, but there is only one calendar to pick from.
Any chance of:
Removing events that happen every day? (i.e. we don't need to put, "play lotro" as an entry for every single day.) Even if the event is special to someone... having it every single day just makes it natural and expected, and therefore isn't needing to be announced.
Removing events that don't have any details?
Adding official events further in advance. (I know fall festival just ended... but first day of December is in 2 days and the deep south is already seeing snow!!!) Would love to know when the winter festival is planned.
Adding a calendar view that is ONLY official dates/events hosted by Turbine?
Changing the 'current day' color to a contrasting color for the event? (currently the text is yellow and the current day highlight for the calendar is also yellow).
I must agree with this suggestion--the calendar is completely useless now with a kin advert spanning every single day from now until 2014. I cannot figure out how to report this post as it has no place on the calendar (and my goodness, the link to that kin's website is not even accurate). The calendar does not have room for more than 2 events a day in the monthly view (well, one until this spam it taken off of the calendar) and it would be ideal to change the calendar to show world events (such as festivals) or to filter between each server.
As is, I don't bother with adding events to the calendar. Crickhollow's nightly event would only serve as more spam, and other events would get lost in the shuffle.
I submitted a ticket to Turbine support asking them to clean up the calendar. Hopefully they'll either get to it shortly, or tell me if they can't. I'll post again if they tell me anything interesting.
Is it me or is the current day nearly impossible to read?
I find the event text practically impossible to make out against the highlighted back ground for the current day on both the weekly and monthly calendars. How about highlighting the current day in red or blue if you are going to have such light coloured text.
And on a similar note, how about not going with such a dark background if you are going to use black text for the day of the month?
I'm a little red-green deficient, so I occasionally have trouble differentiating between blue and purple potions, ditto for brown vs. some shades of green or red, but this is a case of contrast, not of not being able to recognize a colour.
I ran it through a contrast analyser and for the event text on the highlighted background, the contrast ratio is 1.21. For the web content accessibility standard (WCAG 2.0 AA), the pass score for small text is a 5:1 ratio. 1.21 is a miserable fail. The black date text on dark grey background scores a 1.23, another fail.
