Yup, I went to Tools, Macros, Security, and set it to Medium, and then I tell it to enable them every time I open the sheet. I'll see about setting it to low, since this is the only thing I'd be using the Excel for. Thanks!

I echo that sentiment. I only use Excel because when it behaves it's very good at what it does - but it often MISbehaves too.

I'll have to throw this out there - according to my stats 15 or so people have downloaded the new macro'd form...is ANYone getting the form to open as shown above? If so please let us know what version Excel you are using. Please let me know if you're having problems too...can't believe 14 people have downloaded it, found it doesn't work and decided to say nothing...after all, this IS the internet we are talking about...

    Windows XP SP2, Excel 2007

Happy to say that it works exactly as you said it should. I was confused at first because I saw no checkboxes to tick, but when I read that your post where you instruct to click the Open Form button, it worked nicely. I had to enable ActiveX though, because with my default protection it was disabled. After that, it worked like a charm.

It would be possibly helpful to add the instructions ("Click Open Form") in large red letters somewhere because I didn't follow this thread closely for a bit and missed it initially.
(Just a simple user here, so easily confused!)

    Re: Deed Tracker Spreadsheet

I'm using Excel 2003 and I also can't get the button to click to bring up the form. The problem appears to be the location of the "Open Form" button. Right now, the button is located in the same cell as the "Deed Title" header. The problem is, when you have Excel's data filter active, the whole header cell becomes the hot point to bring down the data filtering options for that column (rather than just the little filter arrow in the lower right corner of each header cell). You can see this when the cursor changes from a cross to a pointing finger. The "Open Form" button is "under" this filtering function, so you can't access the button to press it. Excel is kind enough to do this because it "knows" you would never want to do anything else in that cell (at least when the sheet is protected).

I think if you move the button up, so that it overlays portions of cells D2 to D5, it'll work.

These spreadsheets are fantastic - excellent work. Poking thru your forms, it looks like the macro sheet will make the inventory of completed deeds much easier.

    Re: Deed Tracker Spreadsheet

    OK, now we're getting somewhere...

First, thanks for letting me know it works in Excel 07 (flippin' should do, that's what I wrote it in, but you never can tell)

Second - I had forgotten that the old filter was a "whole-cell" affair in older versions, this may well be the problem, but I can offer you a workaround - because I know users are lazy (sorry, but they are) I already put a SECOND "Open Form" button on the "Effects" page. That one shouldn't be affected by any filters, so can someone in Excel 03 give it a try please, and if it works I'll look at moving the other button in a future release.

Mysterion - when people have asked me before to find an alternative to RapidShare I've always asked them "Like what?" - I'm asking you the same question. Make a suggestion and I'll consider it...but no one's managed to come up with an alternative yet (bearing in mind that I'm not paying for it - this spreadsheet costs me enough in time, tears and lost hair already)

Why do so many people have a problem with Rapidshare anyway?

BTW...current stats are 61 vs 24...as a percentage the macro version is catching up!

Honestly I tried using Rapidshare but was unable to figure out a way to actually download the files without paying for "Rapids?". If there is a way to download the file without paying, I couldn't figure it out.

Dropbox is probably what I would use to share a file.

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5237323/How%...c%20folder.rtf

The file above is in a public dropbox folder.

    So is this one

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5237323/test.xls

My problem with Rapidshare is that I can't figure it out and don't really want to pay to download a file.

Edit: Looks like you might be able to zip them up and attach them to the thread as well.

I used rapidshare 'cos i thought it was free for everyone uploaders AND downloaders. Pretty sure you don't have to buy rapids to download Myst...obviously they WANT you to, so they may not make it easy.

Can someone guide Myst how to dl from rapidshare for free? I'd do it, but not sure if it's different when I'm downloading my own file...

It is working now. Earlier it was saying file was not available without purchasing rapids.

Edit: The non macro one downloaded. This is what I just got trying to download the macro version

This is what I was seeing earlier when I couldn't get the files.

I'm using Excel 2010 and having no issues with the Macro version. Working beautifully!

As for the Rapidshare download, it's kind of confusing, but..there's three kind of pictures boxes in the center of the screen. I think the leftmost one mentions paying, but the center one is the download button. Just click on that and you're good to go.

I posted a img one post up of what I've been getting when clicking the middle download image. I've gotten 1/2 files downloaded...not sure what is going on with the service. Thanks for trying to help.

Edit: It finally worked, and I got the file to download.

I had tried clicking it, nothing. The times it did download I was never presented with that box. Oh well, now I need to try out the files. I'm on OSX with Open Office, they aren't playing nice. I'll have to try them out on a PC later. Thanks for your effort on the files, I've been lost without bergzerg.

    Macro - 49

    Non-macro - 75

I have to say I'm surprised, but even with the reduced numbers I may stick with the macro version from now on. It's easier for me to edit, and LOT easier for people to fill in. I'm making a few more tweaks to the interface for the next update, but I'm also spending time actually doing some of the deeds (ten to go, all slayer deeds so not much fun, but I like having those nice blank pages).

Form Button on Effects page works for me in Excel'03

Wow there is a lot here. I'll be filling and trying test traits for awhile.

When is the Reputation for {Race} button supposed to be pressed? Kindred level?

I'm a little confused how the form button matches to the rep factions. Mathom is Hobbits but most other races have several factions. Thorin's Hall and several Moria are dwaven factions. Lots and lots on ones for Men.

I do need to update these traits actually, as each one has a different name (for instance the one for Race of Man is "Virtuous Man")...but you should click it when you've earned that trait...which you can check on the "Race" tab of your "traits" page.

Edit: OK so it turns out they are all "Virtuous whatever", so I'll update it this in a later version. I'm also going through adding mouseover tooltips to all the buttons that give some idea of how to complete individual deeds.

I've never found anything I like using as much as Rapidshare, but one thing I do not mind happening at all is someone else hosting my sheet, as long as they do it via this thread.

BTW should have been clearer about the race virtues, yes I think you need to get to kindred with your own race and then buy the trait from them. It's a nice boost if you haven't completed a lot of deeds, but it very soon becomes redundant.

This is possibly the best LOTRO related find I've ever had. I struggle with figuring out how to trait properly and this just clears that right up, and lets me figure out where to grind out the ones I need too! You are awesome!

One request if you get the chance (or tell me how to do it if I'm just overlooking it?) - for people who bought virtue upgrades in the store out of desperation, can we get a place to add plus whatever for that? I got sick of grinding tolerance in particular... broke down and bought it a few times when it was on sale... so my counts aren't accurate int he spreadsheet because of that.

I didn't even know such a thing existed!

Since I've done all but two of the deeds, it's pointless me going back to check. Can you give me more info on how they work? Do you just buy points outright? Is there a limit on how many you can buy? Can they take your virtue scores higher than the maximums shown in my sheet?

If you can answer those I'll do some adjusting...Shouldn't be too hard

You can buy as many as you like.

They do count over the maximum, but not sure how high. I have at least one that I bought over the max by accident.

You pay, the virtue goes up by one instantly.

You can buy to be higher than the max, but you will not get credit past the max in the actual stats is my understanding. You can only get up to the same stats as the current cap. Its kinda like a head start on the next cap increase if you go above 14.

Yeah as far as I know you can just keep buying them as long as you have the points to do so. They're pricey, I wait for a sale and only get ones I'm sick of grinding out. There's some I just can't get to 14 on my own, and all I have left is instance deeds that I'm unlikely to get done - those are the ones I tend to buy.

Well, $20 bucks will get youclose to 7 levels up.

And yes, no stat gain beyond max, but when they rais the max, you can already be there.

Updated, see original post for details. Let me know if the new additions are working okay (or not!).

Sorry, I'm no longer updating the non-macro version as the macro version seems to have been accepted by most people.

Final version of non-macro sheet updated. My parting gift to those of you who don't trust macros.

    Hello,

I don't have Microsoft Office Suite (quite expansive and don't really need it); can you please tell me if there are any free software out there that allows the view/use of your file?

Thank you in advance for any answer.

OpenOffice or LibreOffice should work, though you may find that the formatting might not look quite right. As I recall there is a similar spreadsheet around somewhere that somebody put together using OpenOffice.

    Here it is:

(props to the other poster in the other thread who pointed this out, as it is a more up to date version than the one I linked to in that thread)

    Re: Deed Tracker Spreadsheet

WhiteBerry's sheet (the above link) is an excellent resource. It is more complete than mine in that it tracks ALL deeds, emotes, mounts etc. However as far as I know it doesn't let you see the effects of the traits like mine does.

I'm happy for Berry's sheet to be promoted here alongside mine...and I apologise for writing mine in Excel. It's what I have, it supports VisualBasic (I doubt very much that the macro version will work in OpenOffice or LibreOffice) and it's very powerful. however I sometimes forget that not everyone has access to it, and it is very expensive.

If you want a (very thorough) record sheet go for Berry's...if you want to see what changes to your traits will do to your character, then you're stuck with mine.

Edit: I just checked both versions in OpenOffice and the NMFinal one sort of works...seems to handle everything fine on the "Deeds" page but it seems some aspects of the "Effects" page are badly broken - in particular the chart showing the cumulative effects of selected traits.

As I suspected, the macro version is so badly affected that it is unusable.

    Re: Deed Tracker Spreadsheet

Thank you a lot for pointing me out to the other version too.

And it's definitely not your fault. It's just that I don't have and can't afford it (it is around $200). It's a shame Microsoft is not releasing at least a free "read only" excel program.

    Re: Deed Tracker Spreadsheet

"read only" wouldn't help of course...unless you don't want to save your data. It would be nice if someone (probably not Microsoft) would write a program that would allow Excel sheets to be run standalone...kind of like WinZip allows you to create self-extracting archives.

    Re: Deed Tracker Spreadsheet

I found another resource on Lotro-Wiki that I thought was worth posting here.

    http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Virtues

Still some gaps in this resource in terms of trait values at level 13...since Great River there's no way of knowing for sure until you actually have a toon with the trait at level 13.

    TLDR thread ^.^
Is there a way to select multiple deeds, and have it filter out the other ones? ie i want to see determination, discipline, and say charity at the same time, so i can sort them TOGETHER by region etc so i c an knock them out by area, while doing this, compassion and justice etc wouldnt be visable?

thanks for the spreadsheet, i used the macro version, DUN STEEL MAHSTUFFZ! =-P (joke, if you were capable of finding an exploit in xls security code to steal a password, you sure as heck wouldnt waste on my stealing lotro accounts lol)

You can certainly filter for a single deed by using the filter for "nonblank" cells, but I can't think how you would do it for multiple deeds. Don't have the sheet in front of me right now, but I think you can could also filter for ALL the deeds in a given region, but I whatever you do do NOT resort the sheet, it totally buggers the macros.
