I´ve been made the kin´s cook, i asked a few things about what does it mean, cause im new in lotro and in this kind of games, and then i accepted it.
I´m level 33, i can make food for people level 50.
If you are also a cook, you know its really expensive, i just didnt think of that when i accepted to be the kins cook. But then, i thought: am i supposed to make all the food for free?
I asked and the answer was yes....
As i said i dont know how does it work, but im level 33, i have 3 golds and when i farm and cook, i loose them and i have 2 golds... and thats just for me and maybe a couple of people, friends and some peolpe in the kin as a gift.
Each tier is more expensive, wich means that if i make 200 of any food for a level 50, i will soon get broked. (And thats the amount they said to me, 200!! for a single person)
What do you think? is it a crazy system? OR am i just overreacting?

I honestly don't know how it works in larger kinships. However, I can tell you that if I were to find myself in the position you have found yourself in - I would feel used. I would abandon either the job or the kinship without delay. That's just me though - I don't know what others would think or how large kinships conduct business.
What benefit do you get from being in the kinship (that isn't shared by the other members of the kinship)?
Well, I can't really answer that fairly. My kinship is about as small as they get. My wife and I each have a kinship with just our characters in them. So, when I cook it's just for me and my wife - and I do foot the bill ...and do all the work. (Hmmm, that's kinda the same thing you're talking about, isn't it? ... Hmmm, I kinda just now realized that. ) But, in all seriousness, I don't think that's what you meant when you asked what smaller kinships do.

In all honesty, I would either inform the "powers that be" in your kinship that you are now stepping down from this position if you are expected to incur all of the expense yourself, or that you are going to charge people the cost of the foods +10% for your time and energy being diverted from playing the game you want to play for their needs. If these are unacceptable to them, then I would resign from the kinship and find one that is more conducive to HELPING its members instead of exploiting them.
My experience has been that people do not mind paying for food plus a small stipend for your time and energy instead of either crafting it themselves or paying the Auction House prices for foodstuffs. Send the food COD, they can either pay for it or reject it, and if the latter occurs, there's always the Auction House to recoup your investment.

If you're making food for a level 50, they should have PLENTY of coin to pay you for it.
If they refuse to pay for it - like others have said, either resign as the cook or find a new kinship. Because it seems like this kinship is <insert profanity of your choice>.
As for the question of how it works in a large kinship? Well usually in a large kinship the primary cooks have level capped characters and gold collections in the triple figures. So money isn't much of an issue. But if a large kinship had a low level cook who didn't have a lot of coin, I can guarantee you the high levels would be happy to pay a reasonable amount for the food.
Previously, the kin had another cook, but there was a mutiny/riot/revolution and some people left and founded a new kinship, incluiding the kin´s cook.
I only have this charachter, thats the way i like it, i have a story to follow, and with one i have plenty of eveything i need. Maybe people that have more charachters have more money, i dont...
I´m glad to see that i wasnt overreacting when i thought that wasnt right. I mean, i dont mind making some free food (in fact, i did it before becoming tonight the kins cook) but i wont be making 200 food for free, for each one.... thats crazy
After reading what you said, i´m leaving the kin (i could just stop being the kins cook, but i prefer to leave it and find another one, according to what do i think is right, and helpful, and what do i think is using somebody for something)
In my kinship no one is ever "required" to craft for anyone else. Generally someone with crafting skill will volunteer to make items for people, and it is tacitly agreed to by the Kin that mats, or the cost to cover mats, is the responsibility of the person who wants the item made.
Some of the wealthier crafting members offer their services free of any charge but they are never required to do so.
In ANY normal kin, big or small, it is common courtesy to provide *at least* mats for crafting something. Your contribution to the kin is the time/money you spent getting your crafter up and the time it takes you to craft for them. Anything else is shamelessly taking advantage of gullible newbie.
Your decision to leave that exploiting kin is a good one.
I know, thats how i feel, but you know, like i never played before this kind of games i thought maybe it is normal
What do smaller kinships, how do they work?
Don't have any idea how works small kins.
Anybody is in a large kinship? if so, could you tell me your experience?
I'm an officer in quite a big kin, My main char is farmer / cook. But we dont have kinship cook or farmer. I mostly cook for my main, and alts, and if someone asks for something (regen food, relics, fortifying food) - I usually cooked stack or 2.
i spent my own money, but on lvl 75 gold isnt a problem. I know cooking is very expensive.
You should speak with officer or leader about it - just tell you don't have money to cook fo everyone.
sometimes if I don't want to farm, i ask ppl who want me to cook sth to buy it on AH - i just need to buy rest of ingredients.
