The last I recall, we did not get anything new to do with these tournaments/events systems.
Back in July 2010, Turbine began the Open Beta testing for 'Tournaments'. It was really enjoyable and brought each server together for a rush to get to the next round. I understand it was just a test, but is there going to be any further tests or appearances of tournaments, as they were great fun.

Was that the thing having to do with Skirmishes? As I recall, few people that I knew of (that I knew of, mind you) actually participated in it.
I believe Turbine tried some Skirmish tournaments. Due to unreliable, inaccurate, and partial exports of data to the web servers which have never been fixed. Turbine gave up on this idea.
In addition, Turbine had some exploit problems or at least creative ways to take advantage of the scripting and instance design with the leader boards and Skirmish instances. Turbine fixed the big public issue. I do not know if they fixed all the issues. The teams or individuals with knowledge of the quirks of the various instances have an innate advantage over everyone else.
