    A Better Sword

I'm just starting with Legendary items and have some questions. I'm a Burglar, Man Lv. 56. My Legendary sword is at 40/40 and says Max. That means I guess that it cannot be reforged or further enhanced. Is it still OK to use though? How do I go about getting a more advanced sword? I am a Weaponsmith (Supreme Level) but I don't seem to be able to craft legendary items yet. Do I buy a more advanced sword from a vendor? I'm just not sure how to procede and my other LI (Burglers Tools) is about to Max as well. The sword I have maxed is a "Burglars Sword of the Third Age"

Have you found rusted Dwarf Tools, or Kahzad Tablets? If so, visit your class trader in Moria. Dolven View, and the Twenty First hall both have them. That is TRADER, not TRAINER. There you can find higher level LIs for trade. If you are the appropriate standing with your Weaponsmith guild you can buy LI recipes from them. You also have LI slots you can use to store and level up any other addition LIs you find of your class.

Are you still using your original Epic Book quest LIs? If so I'm surprised you haven't found better ones in your travels.

Yes, I am still using the Epic Book quest LIs. I didn't tink to do anything with the others until this sword maxed out. I have found lots of LIs from drops. I have been destroying them because they are not suitable to my character. No good?
I have one additional LI sword for my Burglar but it is only slightly better than the one I have equiped. It is the same sword but a Lv 52 instead of the Lv 51. Likewise the tools, equipped is Lv 51, I also have a Lv 53. Do you mean I should store these in my LI panel and they will level up even though they are not equipped?
I don't have Kahzad Tablets but I do have 7 Khuzdul Tablets. It says they can be exchanged for an unidentified Legendary weapon or item and gives the locations. Should I do that?
Unfortunatly my Weaponsmith Guild is zip because I just found out that I should have been crafting the Emblems. So that is going to take awhile. I have been to the Burglar Trader in Moria but he had nothing I was elegible to trade. I will go talk with him again though. Anything else I can try? Also, the Legendary sword progression bar is bright red now? Is that Ok? I mean Ok to continue using it. Thanks for the help.

Yes you can still continue using your original legendary sword. I recommend you find a new one closer to your level, because it will have much higher damage output. You can trade Rusted Dwarf Tools for either level 53 or level 55 weapons (be careful to pick the right one). The higher the level, the more damage it can produce. You can trade the Khuzdul Tablets for level 57 or 59 legendary items. Leveling through Moria, I found that upgrading my weapon every 4 levels was good enough. If you are in a kinship, it will be easy to get someone to craft you a level 60 2nd age weapon.

If you put more legendary items in your LI panel, they will all receive item xp from quests and mob kills, even if they are not equipped.

There's nothing wrong with destroying the random LIs you find. They are plentiful!

I recommend reading the lotro-wiki page on legendary items a couple times to try to make more sense out of the details.

Don't worry so much about not having the right guild rep yet. IIRC, the first craftable LIs come at level 60. Otherwise, the advice others have given out is accurate. If you look around, you'll find a lot of tips on what to do with your new legendary items. (Spoiler: You'll be deconstructing them and throwing them away. Often. :P)

You have 6 itemslots for legendary items, and it's recommended to fill them all; you can get relics from deconstructing leveled items (even if they're only level 2), you can get IXP runes, and if they're lvl 31+, you can get legacy scrolls from them.

As said, you can always get some weapons for the barter items in Moria. But 3rd age items of your level can also be found very cheap at the AH; as long as they're unidentified, they usually go for less than 100 silver.
"HELP!!!!??" is not an appropriate thread title.

    Re: A Better Sword

I'm getting there, thanks. I have one more question.
I have now acquired another third age sword for my Burglar. The sword names are the same but the levels increase. This one is for Level 57 which I am just about to reach. I have found the other items mentioned as well. So I had an LI sword level 51 to start. I have now unequipped it because it is maxed. I equipped the level 55 sword instead and it is leveling nicely. You said to wait for a couple levels before equipping so once at Lv 57 I will equip that one. Should I deconstruct the the maxed out Lv 51 sword? I'm confused about deconstruction. The Relic Master won't deconstruct that one. I see that deconstruction can provide some items usable on newer swords but does it also remove all the XP and such that the old sword had acquired and allow you to transfer that too?
Also, since XP is divided equally to the items in the LI panel should I disable leveling on the older or remove them.
And after I receive higher level Burglar Tools should I unequip the older tools or wait until they max out? The site you provided is excellent but I am still not sure about these items. Thank you again.

If you do not see the weapon in the deconstruct window it is probably because it is Locked. There should be a check box towards the top of the window (similar to the vendor window) to Show Locked. Click it and carefully uncheck the lock icon on the item you want to deconstruct. You will then be able to proceed.

I believe the item must be unequipped (not unslotted) also to show up in the decon window. Not positive about that though but something to check. Also, your original quest reward weapon is the only legendary item I am aware of that automatically turns leveling OFF when unequipped. It MUST be equipped for leveling to be ON. This is different behavior from any other LI, which only have to be slotted and not equipped.
