I'm not given much to begging nor posting on the forums but I can keep silent no longer. Please can a little dev resource be given to adding a violin to the music system.
I wonder sometimes if you realise what a priceless USP you have in the music system. It is, as far as I know, pretty unique and is much loved by many of your customers. But it has the air of something introduced and then forgotten about and could do with some love (I could argue the same for housing and hobbies).
A great many of the tunes played by the bands and serious musicians is of Gaelic origin, usually traditional folk tunes, and these almost always use a violin (fiddle). It can be pretty hard substituting for this although some fantastic transcriptions are available.
I know you are busy with all the usual development work but perhaps a little resource could be used for this (and even housing one day); after all you don't need to keep fiddling with classes, we could all use a little stability there for a while.
If it is not possible or in your plans, I would appreciate you saying so, then we know to stop bothering you.
Violin, yes please. And a tromba of some sort too please. Just the fiddle for starters would be quite OK though!
It's no trivial task however, besides adding new samples to the synth there's also the small matter of making character animations playing the instrument ...
But if dev resources were indeed allocated to a music system overhaul, there are a couple of things that I'd prioritize higher than a new instrument.
First would be a serious look at the existing samples. Some of the instrument register transitions make me squirm. Even worse are the out of tune instruments.
Second would be extend the ABC interpreter to 4 octaves. For example it's annoying that I can't play the lute (well ... guitar) higher than 8th fret on the E string. Same with the harp.

The only instrument in our arsenal that could possibly have more than 4 octaves playable range is the harp as I see it. For the wind instruments 4 octaves is already pushing the limit a bit. That's why I suggested 4.

There was a answer to this request way, way....WAY, back in the early days of the music system. The Devs said something about the samples that are available, or would work in the music system, were not good, and sounded terrible. I personally was not happy with this answer, but be that as it may, it seems that we will never get fiddles in game. (I am saying this in the hopes that the Devs will prove me wrong).

I think i violin would be awesome. I am a violinist myself but I dont think they would get it right. It would end up sounding like your playing violin on a keyboard/synth.(keyboard/synth on violin setting) But if they got it right(they being turbine) it would be the coolest thing for the mini. +1 for violin.

This instrument when in War Speech adds to all skills 20 meter AOE 10 stun + Guaranteed Devastate Critical hit.
When you walk into the room you don't have to use fear, your enemies will flee from your presence. All enemies are debuffed (+30% attack duration +50% miss chance -25% max morale -70% power +40% run speed (To escape)). Once you start the enemies are powerless to stop you.
On the downside if you try to heal your allies while in War Speech using this instrument they will cower in fear -5% morale and + 8 dread (Per healing skill used).
This instrument is not usable in Harmony stance.
In Melody you will have +25% outgoing healing -19% power cost, and all skills become instant cast. Your allies automatically gain +5 hope and +12% morale. The downside is that if you use any damage based skill you will heal your enemies for +25% morale and they will instantly flock to hear you play, enemies buffed +5% max morale +30% power +5,000 love for minstrel.
What is this all powerful tool that only the best of minstrels (or worst, not sure which) can wield? That can be wielded for such powerful destruction and such beautiful edification?
There is already a viola in game. It is crafted by woodworkers for Bree rep, I believe. Only you cannot play it. You should put violas in game to play! It could not be worse than that pigblast.
Recently, I have had interest in finally using the music system after several years of playing. My first impression of music was a violin since that is what I've always wanted to play IRL. Seems we have so many instruments, but not the violin which was the one I was hoping for most.
I think this would be nice, IF they could get it to sound decent. Getting a violin to sound decent with a system like this would be hard, it would probably end up sounded pretty much like a violin does on an electronic keyboard.
with enough time and effort I think they could do it. And I would love it!

I think a violin would be great, another good thing would be a cello for the bass parts, because I myself am my band's bass player, and play bass in real life.
I've asked for a viol many times for several years so with more voices perhaps someone will listen.
Now about sound samples... We have a fairly large player base of real musicians and computer techs. Would it be possible to combine our own knowledge to produce sound samples for all the instruments for the developer? I am a musician but with no knowledge of sound samples and how they are produced for this game. Anyone got any ideas? Dev comments?
