Lottery FAQ and Schedule - Update 10/24/2012

    Updated: 10/24/2012

    A word about Lottery Support
Lotteries are considered BETA and are not supported by in game GMs, Tech Support, or Customer Service. Do not contact them as they will be unable to assist you with any lottery related issues. Items lost, misdirected or sent to ineligible characters cannot be replaced, restored, or moved to other characters.

Please be sure to read the Known Issues.

    Basic Lottery Information and Schedules.

Below you will find a list of regularly scheduled lotteries and some a basic FAQ that should answer most of your questions about the Lottery system. Please note the section on special lotteries.

Just because we don’t have a listed start and end time for every lottery doesn’t mean there aren’t lotteries running or about to launch. Make sure you check your my.lotro.com page frequently! Also note, some lotteries may be server, level, class, or race restricted so it is possible that not all lotteries will be available to all characters on your account.

    How to Enter Lotteries
Log on to http://my.lotro.com/. From there, click on the "Home" link to go to http://my.lotro.com/home. You should see the lottery widget.

If you are not seeing the Lottery widget, you may need to enable it on your my.lotro.com page. To do so, please consult the Lorebook Guide. Please note, you must be logged into the community site for lotteries to display.

    Special Lotteries
    Level Range: Varies
Special lotteries may include humorous lotteries, festival and Holiday related lotteries, class or race themed lotteries or other lotteries not otherwise listed above. These lotteries will vary in length and will almost always be unannounced. So be sure to check your my.lotro.com page frequently to avoid missing out!

    Flash Lotteries
    Level Range: Varies
Follow @LOTRO on twitter to find out when these special short duration lotteries occur. Lotteries typically last 30 minutes or less (never less than 10 minutes) and are announced only via the @LOTRO twitter account.

Note: Following us is not required to win – lotteries are always available to all players. If you check your my.lotro.com page frequently you may come across a flash lottery. You can enter it as you would any other lottery. Following @LOTRO on Twitter simply lets you know when they're happening.

    Lottery FAQ

What are the odds of winning a lottery? What are the prizes for second place?
The lottery system is closer to a raffle or sweepstakes than a true lottery. As a result there is no provision for first, second, or other places. Lotteries are created with a set number of winners per world and those winners are chosen from all of the characters entered into that lottery.

How many winners are there per lottery?
The number of winners varies per lottery. The system allows us to create anywhere from 1 to 1 million winners per world. Obviously a lottery for a very rare, high value item will have fewer winners than a lottery with very common or humorous items like fireworks or ale.

Do you ever have lotteries where everyone wins?
Because of how the lottery system works, this isn’t possible. However, we can create lotteries with such high numbers of winners that it’s almost impossible to lose. Of course, there is always that one person that luck seems to have abandoned.

I keep missing the Flash Lotteries!
Using a twitter tool such as Hootsuite or Tweetdeck will help you catch Flash lotteries (and other important LOTRO announcements) as soon as they are announced. These tools pop up a notice within seconds of a tweet being made by @lotro (assuming you follow us). If you aren't using one of these, or similar, tools you'll need to refresh your twitter page or the @lotro page often to avoid missing an announcement.

    Lottery Known Issues
If you are unable to enter the lotteries or are having an issue with them, please review the Known issues list.

Cannot get the Widget to display
Some browsers do not correctly display the 'more widgets' option. If you are using IE8, turning compatibility mode off should resolve the issue. If you still cannot see the option or are unable to add the widget you can navigate directly to the lottery page using the following URL: http://my.lotro.com/home/lottery. Please note, you will still need to be logged in to use this page.

    Who is eligible to enter?
All LOTRO players with game and community accounts in good standing are eligible to enter the lotteries. This means all Free, Premium and VIP players can participate.

    Collecting your winnings
All winnings are sent to characters using the in game mail system. Mail sent in game expires within two weeks of being sent if left unopened and within two days of being opened. Please collect your winnings and detach them from the email ASAP! We will not be able to replace items lost due to mail expiration.

My item vanished when I detached it from the mail!
Some items are 'auto consume'. This means they'll be used as soon as you detach them. Certain tomes are a good example of this. Other items will be sorted to their correct locations and not placed in your inventory. For example Revival tomes are not stored in your inventory, they are stored in your character panel. Detaching a Tome of Revival will automatically apply it to your character panel.

They Lottery said I would win a stack of items, but there is only one in my mail!
The email system shows a single item even if it is a stack. So if you are expecting 50 Lembas, you'll only see 1 in your mail. However, once you detach it the full 50 will appear in your inventory.

    Banned Accounts
If your Community Site account has been banned you will not be able to enter the lotteries for the duration of your ban. This means if you have been permanently banned from the LOTRO Community Sites, you will no longer be eligible for the lotteries.
