Thread: I'm a thicky! Can't get my lightning strike to work

Ok, I haven't played my lore master for a while, and cant work out how to get my lightning strike to work following the changes. Am I being a thicky? Someone put me out of my misery

your putting your iron filings on them first yea? (yellow skill box with magnet in).

Yep...you gotta put the Ancient Craft debuff on them....once they have it, you can use Lightning Storm on them...

Also - note that Ancient Craft has a very short range (5m I think) so basically will only work in melee.

And I have seen mobs resist Ancient Craft.... So if you are fighting multiples, maybe one of the others didn't resist. So check the debuffs on your target to make sure they didn't resist. If they do... I just /facepalm and keep rollin. Good luck!!

Keep in mind not all enemies are vulnerable to Ancient Craft either, if they are not you won't be able to use Lightning Strike on them.

If you get AC to land, you still might have a problem with the induction on LS. (I suspect the AC was your problem but anyway...) I like to save the Storm Lore stun prior to Lightning to get the induction off. So it is AC -> SL -> LS (all in melee or near melee distance)

Nothing more annoying than seeing the skill bar resetting 100000 times and the heal going down haha.

I've always thought it sucked that our big AoE which is on a relatively long CD timer depends on a pre-req skill landing, and then it itself landing, ie. there are two chances for resists/missed, otherwise the entire CD is wasted.

No other class' big damage is so dependent like this AFAIK, and it's not like we have another to use if this one fizzles.

Not every class is entitled to an AoE skill that does massive damage. As an LM, I've got Improved Sticky Gourd, March of the Ents, and Lightning Storm as AoEs that do substantial damage (sticky gourd seems to crit quite often). Then you throw in the lesser AoEs of cracked earth and. . . the wind one (name escapes me). . . and I think our AoE ability is actually quite good compared to other classes.

I mean, I haven't played BRG since RoI launched, but AoE on a BRG is nearly non-existent.

All of which is to say. . . it never occurred to me to feel entitled to a Lightning Storm with a shorter cooldown or non pre-requisite skill (Ancient Craft).

Sure, we're not champions where AoE-ing is concerned. But then again, if we were supposed to be Champions, we'd be Champions. So just be glad we're not BRGs!

that's not true. ancient craft works on all mobs. it does have a chance of resisting, but nothing's immune to it.

Try again, I have tried to cast it on certain mobs, and I am talking ancient craft.....not lightning strike and have gotten a monster does not meet requirements for this skill or something similar type message.

I can definitely say, that message comes when your Ancient Craft is resisted and you try to hit Lightning Storm....Ancient Craft does get resisted at times, but I'm fairly sure there is no mob totally immune to it....(if immune to any stun/root/skill, the words "Immune" floats in yellow above the mob amid the damage....)

I'll try it again today because I know for sure I tried it on the end dragon in the Siege of Gondamon Skirmish and there is where I got the message.

It wasn't an immune floaty text above it's head nor resisted, it was in the chat box. I'll take a pic if I remember to do it.

I clearly remember getting this same chat text on a few other monsters as well...when I think about it now it's similar to the message you would get when you tried to cast Blinding Flash on an undead pre-RoI.

ok, apparently I am the thicky in this thread....tried it on the dragon again in Siege of Gondamon and it worked fine....I must have been getting that message from tabbing through monsters and I thought I had the AC'ed mob targeted but didn't.....oops.

Well that is great to know nothing is immune to it, that would be lame if anything was to be honest considering it's enormous cooldown......thanks for pointing this out to me....and sorry for the misinformation.

I've had Ancient Craft miss/resisted before, so that could be one reason why. Its very, very rare for it to be resisted but it has happened at least three times that I remember.

In my experience Ancient Craft failing to stick is actually quite common. Whenever I use AC on a group of 5-6 mobs, at least 1-2 will not be affected.

If you find Ancient craft (and other debuffs, for that matter) resist a lot, maxing out the legacy Target Resistance (Debuffing Skills) on your book or having a lot of Finesse should help that.

Also, note that the skill has a maximum of five targets (up to ten if you have the legacy Ancient Craft Targets on your book). So if you use it on a group of more than five and you don't have the legacy, it will logically only apply to five of them.

But yeah, if you're using it on a large group then each enemy has to go through the resistance check individually, so it doesn't really surprise if one fails.

I have recently developed the habit of actually LOOKING at the debuff.. sometimes it misses on the mob I throw it on, only to stick on his other three buds. I tab to check them.. cast the lighting, then switch back to finish off my original target.
