About Windfola
Hello everyone,
While browsing the forums, me and my friend- both of us just starting LotRO- we have fallen in love with the Windfola community, helpful players, with the active forum posts, RP events etc. We would love to join the server, but the thing is, we are both from EU timezone.
Now we are used to play at odd times for fun or RP whenever we can (we used to play World of Warcraft together), but still I was hoping I could know a bit more about the server to help us decide. If anyone could help us, we'd be most thankful.
1. How well populated is the server? I could not find any data on this one. Which time of the day are most people online?
2. How is the economy? Having never played LotRO before, I have no idea about its economy.
3. What classes are most needed? My friend will play an Elven Lore Master. I have not decided yet. I will probably choose between Hunter, Burglar and Minstrel.
4. What vocations are most needed? My friend will choose Historian. I, again, have not decided yet.
5. If anyone has played in the ex-EU server Snowburn, how is Windfola compared to that? Snowburn was our second choice, but the community seems very.... mysterious, from the lack of forum posts.
6. How are new (but polite) players and FTP players treated here? We are very new but we want to learn, and we respect the game, the lore and the players.
7. Lastly, how is the 'occasional RP' in Windfola? It doesn't seem to exist in Snowburn.
Sorry if the wall of text bored any of you. I assure you that was not our intention. We are looking forward to any help we can get.
Thank you.

Re: About Windfola
Well I can't give you much about economy or compare to the EU servers but I'm from the EU and play on Windfola and love it. The majority of players are American but there's a fair few Europeans and Australians (plus many from other parts of the world) so there's always people online and playing.
Windfola doesn't seem to be a big RP server but for occasional I think you'll be fine. I believe there are even a few RP kins on here as well. All players are treated the same whether FTP or VIP.
As for class and vocations being needed. They're not. There's so many players of the game that no specific class or vocation is needed by anyone really. Although if you and your friend are going to quest a lot together you might want to go for a Hunter or even Champ or Guardian to balance out the skills from your friend being a LM.
Just my views. But if you join, you'll be welcome.

Re: About Windfola
Windfola's a good server.
In terms of population it tends to be middle of the road according to: http://lux-hdro.de/images/live/weekly-logins-us.png
Although it does drop off significantly (exactly the same way as all other US servers do except Elendilmir) during oceanic, and to a lesser extent, EU primetimes.
Marianna answered most of your questions, however I'll add that if you are really after RP, there are specific people to talk to on Windy (again I'm not one of these) but the US RP server is Landroval which is slightly higher in terms of population.
Other than that, play whatever class is fun and you enjoy, if you want to get into endgame you can on anything. If you don't it doesn't matter at all, especially if you're playing with friends
Windy has a good mix of kins looking for different things, a bit low on hard raiding kins, but there are one or two around and relatively active.
Hope it helps and have fun.

Re: About Windfola
Howdy!
I've recently transferred here, so I haven't been around all that long, but I can answer your questions from a new player's point of view.
1. What Apoc said.
2. The server's economy seems fine. Prices vary reasonably, and don't fluctuate as much as they tend to on newer servers. Same goes for supply and demand, too.
3. Like everywhere else, what's needed are people who enjoy playing their class(es) and are good at it. The latter usually doesn't happen without the former, so stay with what you like.
4. For your main, I'd recommend an explorer: that way, you can both mine ore and chop trees. Tailoring isn't half bad either, though expect demand for light and medium armour to drop sharply after the MoM level range. (At least, in my experience, "classic" tailor items usually sell better.)
5. Didn't, so I'll pass.
6. That pretty much depends on where you're asking for advice. Mine would be to join a kinship which looks good for you, and ask them: they'll surely help you out. Asking on GLFF or regional advice channels are also a possibility, but I'd rank them in this order.
7. I recommend you join the "GRP" channel. It's not huge, but you'll find people there who'd be up for some RP. Also, feel free to add me as a friend and look me up if I'm on.
There is also a (mostly) regular RP event, the Finer Things in Life, but since you play in EU timezones too (same here), you probably won't make it either.
Oh, and by the way: welcome to the server! Be seeing you.

Re: About Windfola
1. Population
-As of what I've read in the forums its a mid populated server (whatever that means lol)
2. Economy
-In comparison to Vylia, I've found the prices higher here. But seriously, money is not a big issue in Lotro. A thing to note, don't expect to buy tier 1 mats for crafting at an affordable price (on lvl), most of the mats for crafting are a bit high IMO.
3. Classes
-As stated before, choose what you like. Burglar is a bit more complicated than hunter, I think a burglar LM mix could prove really enjoyable... crowd control, messing mobs, etc. You will have to fellow with other classes for the full fellowship quests/instances (small = 3man, full = 6 man)
4. Vocations
-Explorer could be a good mix (you can provide mats for your friend in the weaponsmith area - historians can make weapons but can't get mineral nodes), Tinker is also a good option.
5. EU forum posts.
-Maybe this happens because these forums are "new" to them, previously they posted in codemasters forums.
6. Manners
-In general I think the community is quite polite.
7. RP
-Low to mid RP in my experience. Although I have stumbled upon people being on RP mode (white names) and interacted and had a fun time.

Re: About Windfola
Thank you all for your replies. I really appreciate it.
Well, I am still downloading the game. Been over 10 days now, but my internet is like that. My friend already has it and she is trying different classes. She said that she is experiencing some lag in Windfola from her location. So, lets see.
Once again, thank you for your responses. I really hope to be able to play here.

Re: About Windfola
Best of luck with the download, then!
Also, as far as I know, the game servers are all in the same location. (Correct me if I'm wrong, though.) Unfortunately, lag can come from many other factors, so if it becomes a problem, you'll have to take a thorough look at how your network is set up, and where can performance be improved.

Re: About Windfola
The weekly RP event is The Finer Things in Life ( http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.p...eekly-RP-Event! ). It's on Saturdays, at 9pm Eastern, 2am GMT, so it may be a little late for you. But if you're a night owl, we'd love to see you there!
