I would very much like to thank you in advance for this feature.
Though, now that there is hope, I will not be playing and advancing my characters, but keeping them at their current level in anticipation of this release.
Then . . . when it is released . . . I can continue their adventures in ways that will quickly become far more challenging and interesting.
Hi all, unfortunately we discovered after we launched this page that the XP Disabler was not working. I don't have an ETA on when it will be available, but we do still intend to release it in the (hopefully near) future.
Sorry for the false hope!
Thank you for letting us know. But now that we know it will be coming eventually (just not yet), what is it exactly that will be coming eventually? The name sounds very promising, but what is it? How does it work?

I would imagine that since it wasn't working properly as of a few days ago that it still needs some work. This probably means that no one knows exactly how it will work when revamped.
I would guess that when it is finalized and working as intended we will get an explanation of how it works.

Just got an update, and this feature won't be available for quite some time. The next full update at the earliest, but possibly later too. Apologies again!

They don't have to have it working to tell us what it is. They only have to have it designed. If they had at one point thought it might make it in for this update, I assume they've already decided what the feature is going to be. It's got a name and everything, so it's surely already been decided whether it's going to be a consumable or an equipable item or a usable item or a toggle skill, or whatever.

Ah, well. Thanks for the update. It would be a nice winter holiday gift? (No consumables!) My cynicism has paid off in minimal readjustment of expectations.
Still. It's good to know something is coming down the pike. All those threads might have amounted to something over the years after all. So thanks in advance...
But please Turbine, don't make this a consumable item, in fact don't make it as an item. A command like /xp on /xp off would be great or even an option somewhere (like the toggle quest log, etc. type of option) in the menus, don't stack us with yet more items.

If they want to sell it through the Store, then a toggle skill could be a good implementation as well. They can sell an item that grants the skill, and then once we learn the skill we can use it to toggle the effect on/off whenever we want. That way we have permanent and complete control over the effect without needing to permanently store an item for it.

Is the "next full update" to be interpreted as "the next update in a few months" or "the next named update such like Mines of Moria or Rise of Isengard that will be at least a year or two down the road"?
If the former, I can find other things to do for a few months. If the latter, then i might as well continue on as I have been.
We don't know that yet. Let's see what kind of item and how to acquire it, and even if we have to buy it whether it's an account-wide thing. Or maybe it's an extra in an expansion pack that we buy anyway like the XP enhancer stone. I promise to properly bash Turbine if it's a 10minute duration store-on consumable but we don't know that yet.
I do not know what went wrong with the original disabler. The first offering was one hour buff for a single character. It did not claim to turn off all experience points. It said slow down the rate you earned experience points. I never actually got to see one in the store to read the label.
It will be interesting to see what it comes back as. I think a lot of people were hoping to set experience points earning to zero via a mechanism similar to the the Stone that was in the Rise of Isengard preorder.

I am curious as to how you know what the first offering was.

Yes . . . a 1 hour buff would make the item increadibly expensive for many of the things that one would want to use it for - such as to explore a whole region (e.g., Angmar) on-level or for a roleplay character able to adventure in a region while remaining at a level fitting for that region (e.g., a 15th level hunter that patrols the Old Forest, or a 40th level soldier fighting in Anuminus or to finish exploring Moria without going above 60th level).
And something that lasts for exactly 1 hour would also create problems given some of the other potential uses. For example, it is unlikely that a person who takes a player out of a group to help some kinmates is going to be able to time his adventures away from the group to last exactly some multiple of 1 hour.
Anyway, with the last word on the subject being that the disabler may come with the next full update, and the next full update being due in December . . . has a decision been made yet on whether this will appear and, if so, in what form?

It seems we are on the cusp of the next full update.

Is there any hope we will see this?
Definitely not for Update 5. Considering the half-assed efforts of the I.F. for this release on 12/12, I really don't want to see a half-assed and broken option for the XP thing that no one will use and would give Turbine the ammunition to say "oh look, see, no one really wants this, guess we'll scrap all of its development completely forevermore."
Heck, given that people have actually asked for an XP control, spending the resources from the random-instance-finder-no-one-wanted into the toggle would've been better.
We shall see just what the hell Update 6 will look like.
I am leveling up my minstrel with a friend. I want to go and farm some slayer Deeds, Scholar materials for my crafting skill and I cannot because if I do I will get xp and levels..in this case this feature would be very nice.
Although I think it w should be free for VIP..as I would never spend points on store for such a thing :P I really wait to see what they will decide for this..

Q1: Will you ever have an experience eliminator/on-off switch? - Justin Viskoc
A: Since we’ve already done some work on an experience disabler, I’d say the odds are real good J. It’s not 100% polished yet and until it is, here also is the standard fine print line that there is no commitment implied here as to when it will see the light of day. - Linda “LLena” Currie, Design Director
I gave up on this and leveled my mini to 75. My last hope is that is it released with Rohan so that she doesn't out pace that region as well. My lvl 46 champion has been sitting for months waiting, she has a little more patience generally, but even she is growing weary. If it doesn't come with Rohan, my plan B is to unsubscribe so that at least they stop earning the rest XP
If your talking about the red text that says not usable with Halted XP.....
Not sure what that has to do with the discussion since it has been there since the RoI expansion and update.
Exactly.
Keep in mind, they were already prototyping Skirmishes when Moria went live, so I wouldn't put it past them to release the XP halter with or shortly after Rohan. But either way, it seems a pretty good indication how far along it is, if they've gotten as far as putting it into item tooltips and marketing is accidentally listing it in store sales. Teetering on the verge of release, as it were.

That was probably when they started working on the disabler. It was very shortly after RoI came out that we got the brief aborted message about the XP disabler being available in the LOTRO Store. That was quickly pulled with an explanation that it wasn't ready yet after all, but it looked as though the original plan had been for it to be ready by then. We don't know what the problem with it was, but we've gotten at least two updates since then (or was it three? I can't remember if that was before update 5 or not). Whatever the problem was that got it pulled from release apparently hasn't gotten a very high priority on the list of stuff to get fixed.
