XP Disabler Huh???
Maybe I am blind but I do not see any mention of an XP Disabler in the list of new things coming to the store. Was it posted earlier then revised?

Re: XP Disabler Huh???
In a way, I am glad it's gone.
It is a bit ridiculous to have to pay for it.
It should be free, or priced so low as to be effectively free.

Yep, of anything in the store, this should be a free, in-game option. Who knows, maybe it was removed to be just that.

Re: XP Disabler Huh???
This is an entertainment package. It's purpose I'd to generate a profit. We are not being forced to consume it in order to preserve life or limb. So "should be free" is not an applicable moral concept.
It takes development resources to establish and maintain such a feature. The legitimate business model to use is that the cost to build and maintained should be covered by customer payments at a rate that generates a profitable return on those investments.
If it adds value to the game, I am willing to pay for it according to the formula, "Added value > cost".
I will accept free a gift if it is offered as a kindness that Turbine is under no obligation to provide. However, if they want money instead, if the price is less than the value i hope to receive, then I will obtain that value through trade.

Re: XP Disabler Huh???
Didn't say I wouldn't pay for it.
If there is a price and it is right for me I probably will.
Still, it just seems wrong somehow to need to pay to slow down advancement.
If it costs Turbine a significant amount to enable this function then it makes sense to charge for it.
You and I will never know how much it will cost them, so I guess we have an issue that will never be solved, IE; is Turbine just covering their cost, or are they trying to make all of us pay for something that they have created a market for.
See, if they keep up with the "special" accelerations, they are "creating" a market for "deceleration". That seems wrong to me.

Well, let's not get off the question,"Where did it go?" I know I saw it. I have witnesses.

Re: XP Disabler Huh???
*Raises hand meekly* I witnessed it.
In all seriousness, though, I really hope they bring it back. I don't mind whether it's in the store or free as long as it completely stops XP gain on a toggle basis (no "for 60 minutes" rubbish). The ability to level a character to a specific level and then just keep them there is something I've wanted since I started playing all that time ago.

Re: XP Disabler Huh???
I'm betting that someone in marketing decided it wasn't a feature they wanted to advertise too freely. It could be misinterpreted.
Some sees:
And they think, "Wow, this game is busted if they need an XP Disabler! And they make you pay for the privilege?"

Re: XP Disabler Huh???
Dungeons & Dragons Online indirectly does. Because leveling up in that game involves user input, you can stop your XP by simply choosing not to level up when you reach a threshold where you're allowed to. Although it can be used for this purpose, though, that's not the reason it was implemented that way. The leveling process in Dungeons & Dragons involves a lot of choices for the user to make, so Turbine wasn't able to make it just an automatic event as soon as you reach a certain XP threshold, the way they did with LOTRO.

Re: XP Disabler Huh???
I'm really hoping they only took it out of the Store announcement because they decided to give it for free. I'd even settle for it being out of this particular announcement because it may be another week or so before it's available. I'm really hoping, though, that it is coming, and that it's implemented in a form that makes it worthwhile. (I'm also hoping they'll give us some specifics about what exactly it is.)

Re: XP Disabler Huh???
Ah. Well. :/ Hm.
As noted in other threads, the gorilla of the MMO industry, WoW, has the option to stop XP gain if you pay in-game gold (and pay again to unlock). The option was primarily added to allow players to enjoy specific level tiers of PvP, but there are other uses (noted in many other threads about XP controls in LotRO).
That could be the reason or at least part of it, given all the marketing misinterpretation that happened over the preorder/points/blahblah. The point about a negative versus positive voice is interesting...
"Level up at your own leisure: Stay on-level with friends as you explore the game, without leaving anyone behind. Fully explore a zone's quests while maintaining level-based challenge." (etc.)
It's a pipe dream that Turbine/WB would supply for free a usable feature to control XP on the negative rather than positive end of the equation, so I'll just hope that a good implementation will make it into the store. A single permanent item per character, similar to the pocket +25% item, would be preferable over a consumable "30 minute" thing.
Oh well. We'll see.

It was only removed from the store because it will be on the regular account without having to pay.

Well, isn't that great...
First thing I told my husband when I came home today is that Turbine was finally going to 'give' us a way to not level so fast...
Then two hours later, I told him again, just because I was so excited!
I really hope this is coming back!

Re: XP Disabler Huh???
Well, certainly Turbine would want some income out of it, but it's not unreasonable to expect it to make them money even if it were free. (It might even make them more money if it's free, since then all the players who want it would have it.) One of the two biggest reasons many people want to slow their leveling is to be able to play more of the content. Turbine is already charging for content through quest pack sales and/or subscription fees. If people have a feature allowing them to do more of that content, then they're a lot more likely to be willing to pay for more content. An XP toggle would likely more than pay for itself in quest pack sales alone.
In any case, although I don't think it needs to be a Store item, I'd still be happy to pay for the feature through the store, so long as it's implemented well enough to be useful. (I, too, would want it to be a permanent item or feature once purchased. I probably wouldn't buy it as a consumable unless it's extremely cheap per dose.)

Re: XP Disabler Huh???
Whoa, so Turbine finally listened about this? great, there have been lots of very long threads asking this feature as an option to slow down leveling

Re: XP Disabler Huh???
Well, we're hoping they have. This morning the store announcement said an XP Disabler was coming, but this afternoon, that line has been removed from the announcement. Now we're not quite sure what's going on with it. (Though it seems somebody at Turbine must be doing something about an XP Disabler feature, or how would it have even briefly shown up in the announcement by accident.)

Re: XP Disabler Huh???
It would make sense to me if VIP accounts received the XP stopper control for free, and everyone else has to pay in the store. For one, this could add a little more value to the VIP tier. One of the primary reasons why I'm dropping to premium is to get rid of that pesky rest xp, to boot.

Still wondering what's going on with the magically disappearing line item...
Would really love to hear from whomever at Turbine first posted it why it was posted in the first place if no one else at Turbine wants to fess up. Someone has to do the actual typing of ads--I don't think Hal has been put in charge of adverts.

Re: XP Disabler Huh???
If not Monday, then perhaps with Update 5. Maybe. I'll believe Yula's points in another thread, though--the main thing that's clear is that Turbine is working on something. Maybe they found a specific bug and decided to pull, or it was a marketing mistake and put into the flyer too early.
Like Gaming_Gal, my mind went over the "But it's not April Fool's" bit too.
However, if the "XP disabler" thing ends up being a consumable instead of a character-specific item/skill, there's no way I'm supporting that in the store.

Hi all, unfortunately we discovered after we launched this page that the XP Disabler was not working. I don't have an ETA on when it will be available, but we do still intend to release it in the (hopefully near) future.
Sorry for the false hope!
