Thank you very very much CW. I logged in one of my 65 Minsts, realized I had no idea how anything worked, and logged out, came here, found your post, *WHEW*
Coming back the changes are overwhelming. I am just glad I have a 28 Minst I can go play for a while, although now that I think about it I could remove all my skills and get them back one by one by level as I got comfortable with them.
Anyway, thank you again

Excellent guide! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this extensive write-up! I'm still new to the game, so I was not familiar with the "old ways" of the Minstrel, but this is still right up my alley as the "go to" guide for helping me develop the best Minstrel I can.
I don't think I've ever been so entranced in such a long and informative set of posts. Seriously. I stopped playing the game about an hour ago as I simply wanted to finish reading this so I could think of some stuff and then read it all again tomorrow (later today technically).
Great... GREAT post! I just recently got back after being gone for about 9mos and to say I was a tad overwhelmed after logging in would be a lie - but this made it a ton easier to understand.
My minstrel has been parked for well over two years, stuck at L42... erratic hours meant I was mostly solo...
My minnie was parked at L42 when I first rolled rune-keeper, who romped...
After RoI my Minstrel is now so much fun I'm suffering from... well, pardon, minstrel-cramps...
Whereas my once near god-like rune-keeper now must convert fight or flight to die or flight under certain conditions...
It's all cool, a tide may pick up one class while nearly sinking another. Both classes are still a lot of fun, I just now take the "due diligence" I used to expend keeping my minnie alive on my runie.
One thing I have to take issue with - and it does not only apply to minstrels - is the stingy amount of percentage for various effects to hit. For example, the Minstrel class Life Singer trait which gives +10% Chance to Score Critical Heals. A 1 out of 10 chance? Give me a break! What people in every class want is an effect they can RELY ON. 1 out of 10 is so random as to be laughable. There are worse examples, like 5% (1 out of 20) and 1% (ludicrous). Again, STINGY comes to mind. If Turbine would radically change its mindset about such things and give folks RELIABLE effects it would be a great improvement, even if the effect's magnitude were to be diminished. Reliability is key over magnitude of the effect.
Anthems also modify your Coda, giving unique buffs to the the Casting Minstrel based on which Anthem buffs are active at the time Coda is cast.
So strange, but it seems that after the last change to anthems they modify the coda even after their expiration. You can cast anthems, wait for their expiration, then cast the coda and receive all possible effects. I hope it's WAI.
Wow, awesome guide. I just recently came back to the game after being away since Mirkwood, this guide really helped me understand the changes to my minstrel. Nice work! +rep
Going to sound a little random, but anyone know what cosmetics/armor the minstrel is wearing in this photo (from post #3)?
Thanks.
The chestpiece, gloves, and boots are from the Burglar Ost Dunhoth set (can be purchased using Medallions of the North-Men at Harndirion in Enedwaith). The legs and shoulders are quest rewards (light armor) from Dunland, and appear under multiple different names throughout the zone.

I came back to Lotro after a year of retirement, and had really no idea what to do.
With this guide in my head and some practise I will be fine again. Thanks a lot
This is a wonderful resource for long dormant Minis. I still suspect I'll have questions for any new abilities/modifications in the newest expansion, but at least this gets me on the right track. Kudos!
Just started playing my mini and this is a great guide for guys like me that been here for over 5 yrs and want to go back and play the early stuff and have fun. I really learned alot today from this guide. Thank man =)

I agree completely. I've been playing my RK almost exclusively for the past 6-ish months (wow, time flies), and this guide very quickly got me caught back up with my Minstrel, for whom I'd already forgotten some key points.
