The Stag Bull is definitely 1000x better, and would have fit better with a Loremaster than some floating light ball.
The excuse of things being too big is just lame... if they are going by that, then I could complain other players block my view also, which is the truth. And its the reason why you can zoom out to view from a different angle.
I'm sure they did this because it takes the least amount of effort by Turbine.
I would rather this game worked more like Everqust, where pets gained abilities as they leveled, and they get slightly bigger as they level.

Oh man!! that auroch is actually looking pretty wicked.....I would still like that ....though from the skills, it dint seem like a healing pet....though there are some unrecognizable skill icons in there....so not sure.....
I had remembered reading about the potential auroch or some other ideas for pets. I even considered leveling an LM up just to use an auroch in the moors. When I saw that LM's were getting a limfraen or whatever the heck the glow-ball thing is, I was really disappointed and I don't even have an LM. Talk about taking an easy road Turbine. I hope the new pet is useful because it certainly isn't very visually exciting or enticing.
I admit that I am biased here, but it appears to me that the majority of player feedback to the limrafn has been negative. While there is some disagreement as to what the pet should be, (deer/aurochs/turtle seem to be the most popular) it seems clear to me that the general consesus on the glowy ball is "No."
What I'm wondering is do the devs even consider our responses, or just go, "this is what's happening. Deal with it." Not trying to incite, just wondering what the process is for making these decisions.

Dev: Hey the Lm's are asking for stags, hounds, aurochs. I think we could take one of these ideas and make a cool pet.
Manager in a suit: Hey, those are good ideas, but I have a better one. We could take the limfarns and make that the pet.
Devs: <crickets> <eyes roll> <Thoughts in head: omg did he just say that and does he really want us to do that>.
Manager in a suit: Yeah, it will be great. We already have it in game anyway and it will look cool. The LM's don't know what they want anyway. After all that's why I'm a manager.
Devs: <crickets>
Dev 1 to Dev 2: <whispers: is he being serious?>
Dev 2 to Dev 1: <whispers> God I hope not, that is the most stupid idea ever.>
Manager in a suit: alright, then its settled, make limfarn the new pet, glad we all agreed on this, get it done.
Dev 1 and Dev 2 <in unison> son of a b*^ch. We are going to look like idiots and take all the heat due to this idiot. <sighs>
Good gracious, what a pair of wet blankets. Of course, we're never actually going to have giant eagle mounts, but that doesn't suddenly make them an unattractive option. I've always fancied the great eagles of Thorondor and was faintly disappointed years ago when I finally got the eagle trait and found out he was such a little thing.
I don't remember who posted it a while back but I really liked the idea of a songbird of some sort as the healing pet. Would make much more sense. I mean you could tie it together better. It's presence maybe gives hope/increased max morale. Cheerful song raises group morale long cd. Playful chirp small single target heal shorter cd. Discordant note every 15 secs for flank.
but alas.... we are stuck with limfwhatchamacallit.
The auroch was shot down by player feedback (which rask cited) so the suggestion that developers were not listening to players is not accurate. Rask raised the possibility of an informal poll on what kind of pet we would like (this was not done). If you want to blame anyone for lms not having an auroch it should be other players who provided negative feedback. I don't care what pets looks like, more interested in it's abilities. There is no consensus, whatever form the new pet takes some people will complain.
