Thread: Are there any male spiders left?

Very few of the spiders I know are male, why?

I was aware of an update (not sure when) that made any new spiders go from a "he" to a "she". This personally does annoy me, even if it is something minor. All I want to know is, are there actualy any males who play as spiders?

Yes there are plenty, though I do not play a spider.

Also, there were spiders during a certain time of the game that have male pronouns attached to their emotes etc. It was only for a short time but those from that time still are "male spiders" as far as I know and they are quite rare. Did that help?

Pre-MOM spiders do. I started playing my spider in Mom and it's female, and frankly I don't even care. Shelob was female as well, and I'm her daughter!

Male spiders are eating by female spiders after .. äh making hatchlings .

I don't remember if it was moria release, or shortly before. Any spider made before a certain patch was masculine.

Pre b10 spiders = Male, right?

I know mine is a boy and still isn't rank one.

the change happened at the same time our root was changed form 8 secs unbreakable to what we have now. i think that was either book 9 or 10 in soa. all spiders made after that point are female if you were made before then u are male. there's a few male spiders left on bw but most have left long ago ( i actually have a male spider thats r6 now that infamy was lowered on another account that i was thinking of farming some tp on to activate it when creeps get ftp)

Male spider here. And seeing another male spider is a rare thing indeed.

Male spider also, from back in open beta.
Even though it is rare indeed to see me out and about as of late.

also have a much more recent, and unfortunately female, spider on another server. Thought about transferring him over instead of creating a new one, but Meneldor is his home.

As I said, I know plenty: Buppkiss, Venusial, Morgale, Crabbypattie, Swiftweb, and I that's just a few from memory on Landroval alone.

Oh and Bupp + Morg are 2/3 of the highest ranked spiders on the server. The other one, Gobblemoss, is an enigma and the most popular theory is that Gobble actually is a giant, sentient spider playing a giant sentient spider in an online game. Try not to think about it too much =P

Why would you be annoyed with spiders being exclusively female? All the other creeps are male, if I were to play a reaver I'd be a strong beefy male orc and perfectly alright with it. It's not like it in any way affects me in real life, lol.

Besides, it actually makes more sense to have female spiders. Where in Middle-earth would a male spider get a spider baby from?

DUDE, this is an MMO girl in game means Guy in real life!

I was running in a group of about a dozen spiders on nimrodel, and all the players except one was male. As for the actual spiders, I didn't really check...

I bet those 11 only THINK they are male and when they die a message "xxx has succembed to HER wounds" appears

I've known very few spiders who weren't male IRL.

In game though, I think I'm the last one Silverlode who still plays.

On Dwarrow we have this erm...issue?... with wargs lol. Almost all the ranked wargs are played by females irl and their death mark is "succumbed to his death." Funny thing is, most of them said they play wargs cause they are cute 0_o All our spiders are played by males irl though.

Elendilmir has quiet a few male and female spiders both in real life and in game.

Male weaver and proud

My weaver is identified w/a male pronoun.

There was a mistake, all spiders were supposed to be 'female' but the developers miscoded the pronoun identifier. They eventually fixed that egregious bug but already created spiders kept their 'male' moniker.

I, too, think the change happened about Book 10 SOA

If any Devs are reading this thread, please don't take it the same way you took our chats about the old style hatchlings. Just because we talk about something doesn't mean it needs fixing. I'm perfectly happy being a guy and would like it to stay that way!

Actually, if there's one thing they could sell in the creep store and make a lot of people happy with, it would be an item to change the gender pronoun of your character. I'm sure there are plenty of wargs and spiders that would buy it, not to mention Defilers, BAs, and Warleaders. Which just leaves those F2P Reavers as the odd orcs out . . .

While I would buy this, it's not loreful, as weren't all orcs, uruks considered male?
