I've seen a tip during one of the loading screen that said you could unlock items from your inventory (instead of doing it from the NPC vendor window). I don't recall exactly, but it said something like "select the item in your inventory, and press CTRL + L to toggle."
However it doesn't seem to work for me. Clicking on an item stack (a stack of Broken Great Swords for instance) and pressing CTRL+L does nothing (except opening the Quest Log, which is bound to "L"). I looked in the keyboard bindings and I can't find anything like that.
Could somebody confirm it's possible to do this, or was I dreaming of LotRO (again) ?
you can do it, but you have to hold down ALT (could be CTRL can't remember without being in game) then click the items to properly select them. Then you can taggle the lock (defaultis CTRL T)

You are correct. By default it is ALT-click to select the item, then CTRL-T to lock/unlock it.
I usually just hold CTRL and ALT, then click the item and hit T. Since CTRL-click previews an outfit in the dressing room, it may cause the dressing room window to pop up or will give a message that the item can not be previewed, but it can be much faster when wanting to lock or unlock multiple items in a row.
In any case, it is definitely clumsy and counter-intuitive. Would much prefer a context pop-up menu for right-clicking on an icon rather than an automatic default action. Can't tell you how many potions I've accidentally consumed trying to get information on something. Muscle memory is sometimes hard to overcome when moving from game to game and honestly, most games I play use right-click for something other than immediate action - like a context menu.
