    Show off your sweet Crib!

I've seen it asked for but not delivered, so may I present to you a thread to show off your sweet home and all your awesome knick-knacks!

I'll start it off with my home at 2 Twinfall Path, Naradris, Falathlorn Homesteads, Nimrodel

Every good home starts with a well-manicured yard:
I decided to go with a garden that brings the comforts of indoors, outdoors. It's also great for photoshoots.

I have a parlor for entertaining guests that shows off a growing map collection:
In person, this room is very close, yet calming.

Upstairs is a more private room, perfect for unwinding with a good book after a long day of saving the world:
Rich golds and reds unknot minds while the fire soothes sore muscles.

I'm lucky to have my kinhouse just down the road! Here's a look at the Tirithuin Menel meeting room:
Vibrant greens, with the spoils of conquest scattered in between kegs, tables, and benches.

I'm still of the opinion that more item slots in our homes would really bring them to life, but they have the potential to look pretty neat regardless!

Beautiful! I have always felt the shape of the elf houses would make them a bit hard to decorate, but yours is great! I'll have to see if I can get some pics of my hobbit house one of these days.

Some of you may remember my housing project last December - it was featured on CSTM here if you want to see the article.

A couple of my favorite rooms are:

If you want to tour the actual houses, they are always open on the Nimrodel server, Falathorn homestead in Athrad Valen - 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 Haven Way and 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Fairwood Lane.

Just a side note: I do watch the occupancy of the elf neighborhoods and if they should ever fill up I will release the houses for others to use.

I found your blog entry to be most thoroughly amusing. Great commentary!

I love the rich textures you've gone with, Silverblade! I always thought the elf walls and stone floors were too stark to work with! I especially love the upstairs room. The greens match the secondary colors in the wallpaper very nicely.

Thanks....glad its looking good.....I went around all the homesteads gathering up the wall/floor textures of all kinds....the default elven ones were indeed very stark....

The upstairs room is my favorite too....it has the most serene effect of all the rooms.....even more so coz I use the caras galadhon ambient music

Thanks. The bedchamber/solar wall is actually Festival of Enedhin (the wood doesn't match the support beams, true, but I wanted something light...). The room that I decided was the solar has surprisingly few decoration hooks. It could take at least a couple more large furniture and rugs!

I had a Dwarf deluxe house at some point but decided to sell it (so to speak) when I got the kinhouse, so I now have a wee "guest cottage" right on the edge of the Thorin's Hall Homestead purely for travel/convenience reasons, though it still had to be "livable" in case I parked an alt there for a while...

Hmm, I was contemplating to try and get a kinhouse like that but I wonder did you sacrifice guild membership to get it (reckon it would require to run an alibi kin just for the purpose) or did you make an alt the kin leader and sacrifice being able to dispay BoA decoration like boss tokens?

Anyways, myself I've just started decorating my house at 4 Garden St. (Bree homestead), so here it is for what it's worth:

Large room is still work in progress.

Trilwych, the dwarf home is so cute and cozy!

Kheld, very nice man-cave, would've thought it impossible for an elf home. What is that banner in your yard, the one on the left?

Yes, you need a vanity kinship for this purpose, but that doesn't mean you can't have toons in different kinships. For example, if you quest on your main with a bunch of friends in their kinship, then keep your main in that kinship, and use your alts (and probably a F2P account) to create another kinship.

    Very nice pics, all.

I actually ran across a Dwarf deluxe house at an ideal location and 'sold' the standard house for yet another "guest cottage," despite having gotten rid of my first deluxe because I had upgraded. Oh well. Decorations still forthcoming--the extra chest is always nice and convenience to the TH stable is bar none.

I'm pretty sure you can set permissions so your main can decorate, but that might only be for personal houses.

Re: Show off your sweet Crib!

Scoff, I forgot to mention that I find your bedchamber kind of... amusing. I imagine the house owner tripping over that bear head in the wee hours of the morning, and the off-kilter map on the wall makes me suspect that in one such trippage, said owner lurched forward and smacked the frame.

New deluxe guest cottage; I saw that this one was available and immediately pounced because it's just above my where my old Dwarf house was and is thus situated right next to the homestead exit. I actually like all the homesteads, but both the Man and Elf ones are just too far away from everything. (Turbine, add stables for homeowners already!)

The great room has all the amenities one might want. Dining, a lounge area, and of course, a hot tub. (Yes, it's the Rivendell reflective pool, but...) It's actually a shallow pool, but after heating large stones in the fireplace and placing them at the bottom of the pool, one can enjoy a relaxing foot soak after a long day of adventuring.

The parlour also serves as a study room when there are no guests to entertain.

The hobbit-style fireplace in the bedchamber is actually a fine height for placing one's stein on the mantle while browsing a book just before bed.

This is correct--both personal and kinship houses. You can set permissions for anyone to allow decoration. However, the bound decorations of course can only be moved around by that character.

When splitting decoration permissions across toons, keep in mind that if you abandon the house, any decorations not bound to the house owner should end up in the decoration-owner's escrow.

Re: Show off your sweet Crib!

Thanks for the compliment, Turtle - the kin is roughly 5 months old, and we've owned the kinhouse for maybe ... 2 months now? I've lost track. It's a mixed kin, so that actually sounds about right when describing our kinhouse.

Only myself and one other kinmate have been decorating it - and since my character is the leader AND a dwarf, I just HAD to have a working brewery inside. The other must have item was the library - I'm quite proud of our kinhouse library, to be honest.

Sadly, at the moment my "Office" is quite plain - but then again, I'm a dwarf, I don't need much for an Office.

I'll definitely keep the forums here updated with future changes to the kinhouse!

Can someone direct me to a forum or give directions on how to take screenshots? Besides the actual function, how do I get rid of the UI? I would like to post some of mine but am not really sure how.

    Thanks in advance!

P.S. I love the bear in the reflecting pool. Since I'm new to Housing, I haven't discovered all the fun in "Special Furniture" placement!

P.S. I love the bear in the reflecting pool. Since I'm new to Housing, I haven't discovered all the fun in "Special Furniture" placement!
Press F12 to remove the UI, and also "N" to toggle off floating text. F11 or PrtScrn keys to print screen, which will save a raw screenshot to your "My Documents > The Lord of the Rings Online" folder.

Welcome to 4 Stonemirk Street, home of Narmlin and [her] his many alts-er-friends!

It's a little hidden, but that's the way we like it!

I live with a couple of Hobbits, and boy do they love to eat!

This is the Main Room. How can they eat so much and yet still be thinner than me?

The Dwarves insisted on a trophy. The Hobbits were fine with that so long as there is plenty of drink.

    (part 2)

Here we have a lovely seating area. One of our Dwarves stitched those pillows himself! (They're not very comfortable.)

Here's our study for researching the various perils and lore of Middle Earth. The Elves keep putting up paintings to class up the place. As long as it stops them from complaining about the lack of sunlight. Bah!

Another view of the study. The bookshelf is mostly filled with cookbooks that the Hobbits bring to the house chef.

(Cont. Just one more - promise!)

    (Part last!)
Here is where the (lore-breaking) magic happens!

One of our Elves painted the picture. She just stands in front of it all day and sighs. (Hmph! Elves.)

Another bookshelf. This one is filled with bedtime stories and picture books. (Note the fine craftsmanship on that candlestick there. Why, yes I did make that! Thanks for asking!)

Every bedroom should have a roaring fire, especially one under a snowy mountain!

Thanks for the thread idea! I just bought a house and am having fun with decorating it. As you can see, I still don't have a lot of the more interesting items. I can't wait for the next festival so that I can get some maps for the bare walls!

Though it's true that there is room for improvement in the housing system (see the petition thread), new homeowners like yourself without experience in other games with housing can find the joy in this. I love both my houses too, though there could be more hook variety...

I believe toons created since the F2P launch receive a "Russian-doll" gift box that eventually spits out a painting, so baby alts leveled to a certain point can help gain those wall decorations (to the detriment of scholars, most likely).

Thanks! I agree that since I am new, I still think it's a fun diversion. I definitely see the frustration from the community. I wanted to post here to add my voice to the numbers who actually use the system. It's one of the few reasons to grind rep in some zones. That alone should be worth it to Turbine

I forgot that if I start a new character I can get the doormouse or songbird because of the Moira pre-purchase. (I think that's where it was from.) Unfortunately, I have to save up points for another character slot. Oh, well.

If anyone reading this is on Elendilmir, several of my alts can make some of the decorations. I would be willing to make something for you if you ask. PM me here or in game, and I will tell you whether I can make the item.

I'll definitely keep the forums here updated with future changes to the kinhouse!

I love the idea of an office. We have a room in our kinhouse, at the top of the stairs with a fireplace, that I've been clueless on how to decorate. Perhaps I will turn the whole area into a waiting room/foyer and office.

Would love to see updates as you gather stuff to round out the kinhouse.

Also you can control lighting a little by toggling the personal lantern Alt F10, I believe. Might be shift or ctrl.

I also like to go into Options, graphics, and turn on Anti-Aliasing to max. It softens edges and makes everything look really nice. I have to turn it off to play though.

A Casual Stroll to Mordor has a few good guides on taking the best screenshots:

Thank you, TT! I took one of the shots at "night" and then during the "day", the light got much too bright. I tried to change my brightness settings, but the pic came out the same every time. Now that I know how to take them, I will play around more.
