    Re: Lotro mac client?

Wow, i have been waiting for something like this for ages! I love my mac but it really sucks that MANY games are unplayable without buying a windows installation disc ($$$$) and running bootcamp. Great stuff!
I was wondering thought, will it always patch to the newest update? When update 6 comes live will I be able to patch to it?
    Thanks!

    Re: Lotro mac client?

    Hi everybody.

I ve just installed the full unofficial client yesterday, and tried it for about 15 minutes, and it seems to work very well.
Thanks a lot for the job!

I m just wondering if there's a simple way to change the langage? I can only choose English, and it would be easier for me if I can have it in French.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Lotro mac client?

I downloaded the client about a week ago and it was running great until about 2 days ago. Now when I try to run the gun it starts for a couple seconds after I log in, then it displays an output window saying that the action has been aborted and there is nothing I can do but exit the game. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and i even got a windows emulator called wine, but nothing seems to work. Help would be really appreciated!

    Re: Lotro mac client?

I have used this client with minimal issues for 4-5 monthes. The only differences are the launcher is different. You have to patch(update) the game manually and sometimes it crashes. My only problem that I need help with is that the default resolution is to too small and when I change it in game, the next time I log on it changes back. Does anyone know how to fix this. Overall though I think that this is the best way to run LOTRO, way better than dual-booting.

open folder with your game, go to c_drive\documents and settings\username\documents\th e lord of the rings online\UserPreferences.ini, and change WindowedResolution=1920x1080 to whatever you want
ps1 if you using something different then wine you have to find by yourself file Userpreferences.ini
ps2 sorry for typos, but i dont remember actual folders tree in wine container, so the path might be different from mine

First of all read this. Next step will be to find details of your mac. Enter its serial number, then find which sound card your device using your mac, and then try to find its GUIDs. In windows you can use regedit, it'd take no more then 2-3 min to find it out.
And if i remember correctly there are some issues when you using ported games on mac, and one of them its not working mic, and crazy mice cursor(but it was fixed in one of latest wine libs).
I would recommend you to use some VOIP software (e.g ventrilo, mumble, team speak) I believe there are clients of them for mac os

Yes ask if any of your friends have windows installed, get some beer, flash drive for 16gb, download and update game on his windows, then copy to your flash drive, and paste in your game folder

you didnt fully download LOTRO_US_FP_V3B3_042011.zip.do wnload. Suffix *.download means its still in progress or canceled. I dont have mac installed at the moment, but from my experience i remember that i used pylotro+wineskin to run it. Also you always can use bootcamp to install windows(XP, 7) as 2nd OS and play with no problems

upd: you also need XQuartz to play fullscreen( i dont know if its already in dmgs that you've downloaded)

    Hi there everybody,

First of all, thanks for such a wonderful link! This finally gives me some hope about getting to play.

I've downloaded the client and installed it and all, I even got to the patching window (as shown in a screenshot above). I was trying to patch it but it stopped at a point, when it said "Downloading (something I can't recall)" and it would not advance - well, there is no progress bar, but I wouldn't see any changes. The point is, I quit that window and tried to start the game. It seemed to work - the first loading screen appeared, and it said it was trying to connect to the server (or something similar) - it was giving it 20 attempts, stated clearly, and it didn't work. "Fine, I'll figure something out", I thought, and I left, not before shutting down the computer. Now, no matter how I click the icon, it simply won't open. I've no idea what to do - I'll try reinstalling, I'll post again if I make it work. Meanwhile, if anyone has any suggestions, please do tell me.

    Thanks!

Quoting myself like a boss. One problem solved, I can now attempt to login. Problem comes when it goes to the screen saying "Searching for logon server (Attempt X of 20)". I've done a little research and it seems to have been a common problem, but I can't seem to find solutions. Has anybody been through it?

    Question AW: Lotro mac client?

I have a MacBook Pro (early 2011) and would like to know, if this unofficial Mac Client works.

I am using an older MacBook with Lion and the game launches fine - I haven't been able to play because my connection is "protected" by external proxies that I can't overcome, though.

Has anyone figured out how to fix this problem? I've also experienced this and it can be frustrating. Early in this thread someone said something about a vertex shader issue, but I can't figure out how to disable vertex shading or whether that would even solve the problem.

It works, but it will jack up your systems preferences permanently. Not worth it. My Mac used to be the wifi hub for my apartment and now internet sharing no longer works.

    DON'T DO IT.

It sounds like this Mac client you've downloaded is using an older version of Wine - I used to have this crashing problem all the time until recently when it seemed the latest builds of Wine fixed something. I have no idea if you can update the version of Wine in the client you've downloaded - you should maybe look at Crossover or WineSkin Winery as these both keep up to date with the latest Wine releases and there's plenty of tutorials for getting Lotro running on both.

The only other thing that I found helped when I was getting crashes all the time was to ensure I had nothing running prior to starting Lotro. Safari or Twitter running in the background would give me a guaranteed crash within minutes.

    EDIT:

    Ok, talked to my friend.

You open Lotro, and in the windows that asks you for your password and username you go to Tools>Patch>start

take into account it will take some time to patch, be patient, after that is done you should be able to play the game, enjoy!

First of all, thank you so much for the information so far I would not have gotten this far without it. Unfortunately I still can't quite get it to work. I downloaded the program and patched it like the instructions above said to. When I log in the game plays the intro video and gets as far as loading everything. Then the screen goes black and a window that looks like the patch output box shows up and after a while a smaller window that says 'Internal errors-invalid parameters received' pops up. Do I just not have proper requirements or is it something else? I'm using a Mac OSX version 10.5.8 with a 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Thanks!

I feel like a total tard. But I have downloaded the client, I have installed it (via WINE, Tried CXG but it just didn't seem to work). But when I enter the game, I see the first screenshot and then it just pops up **FINISHED** I have replaced the file everyone was talking about but this didn't solve any problems. I have been using MAC for the first time in 2 years just trying to install this game. So my knowledge about mac is worse than nooby. Anybody got any ideas?

Finally got my client to work. But have 2 issues: 1st - sometimes mice cursor just dissapears, and to get it back to work i have to right click. And second, its after few teleports between locations(e.g. personal house - bree - lone lands) my screen become very very small like 30x30 px, but game keep on working and i cant do anything else then just force quit it, and start over. Anyone have any ideas how to solve this issue? If i get it worked, ill upload this client somewhere, so ppl could use it without any patching

You don't download the expansions, when you patch you client it will download it for you. It's added to the game for everyone, when you buy ROI it gives you a code that gets you everything, there is no point in downloading another file when the client already has it.

Ow, ok. And do I need to buy MOM and SoM first or will ROI work without them?
Is it still usefull to buy them anyway? Or is the content of those expansions already available without having them?

    Thanks

Hey guys I'm trying to help a friend of mine install this on his mac. We used wine to install lotro and pylotro. When he opens up pylotro, the username and password are greyed out. It says that he is missing some language files too. We haven't patched because we don't know quite how to do it. It seems different than what everyone else says. He has to choose advanced options then when he clicks patch it opens up a new window.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

Make sure it has fully downloaded? Check the file size, it should be around 14GB if I remember correctly.

depends on how old your client is. The one from file planet can take up to 2 hours.

PS I have almost 100% working client(few small issues). If there will be at least 5 players interest, i'm ready to upload it somewhere.

PPS Here is wrapper, made by someone from porting http://portingteam.com/files/file/39...-rings-online/ This is only wrapper, no game inside. You can download it and put your client inside. There is small instructions of how to get it working

I have recently downloaded this client off 'http://www.fileplanet.com/218758/210000/fileinfo/The-Lord-of-the-Rings-Online-Client-(Mac---Unofficial' but for some reason it does not work, i am not the most familiar with macs but can manage my way around with instructions, when i try to open the client (LOTRO-OSX-RoI.dmg) a message pops up saying 'the following disk images could not be opened : reason : Unrecognised', i have tried the 'open with' option and i clicked on the two recommended options 'DiskImageMounter' and 'Disk Utility' neither of them work. what is the problem and how can i fix it? thanks alot for any help you can provide.

It usually happens when you didnt download 100% of file. Just redownload, and\or use some tool, that allows you to resume downloading

So I downloaded this download and it works up until the patching... I've been patching it for an hour now and I'm not sure if it's working... help. There's a lot of dots.

Edit: It seems to be working now.
