    Lotro mac client?

Iv'e tried everything, except bootcamp, to play lotro on my mac. So then I came across this...
    http://www.fileplanet.com/218758/210...-Unofficial%29

How does this work? Is it as simple as downloading and playing? Thanks

    Re: Lotro mac client?

This uses wineskin, as far as i know its a wrapper for mac (it contains all the lotro files contained in a mac type of app, that is you just need to install it as any other mac app). It has the lotro client and a wine application, along with pyLotro (this is used in mac instead of the lotro launcher).

It works, without any big problems.

I don't have a mac, but i play with a real life friend who uses that installation to play and he says it runs ok.

I'll ask my friend tomorrow and see what extra info he can give to you.

Downloaded it, however when I try to connect it says I don't have the current version of the client installed? Any help?

    Re: Lotro mac client?

I briefly talked with my friend and he said you had to patch it (the game i guess, although it could be the pylotro launcher, no idea). He was at work and didn't have time to explain it to me. (Try looking for an option to update or patch i guess)

As said before I have no mac so i can't really help you. Once my friend contacts me, I'll post his instructions, might be till tomorrow though. sorry.

No prob firend, I'm glad you were able to fix it. Just spread your knowledge to others, we all start from scratch once in a while.

    =)

    EDIT:

    Ok, talked to my friend.

You open Lotro, and in the windows that asks you for your password and username you go to Tools>Patch>start

take into account it will take some time to patch, be patient, after that is done you should be able to play the game, enjoy!

    Re: Lotro mac client?

In case anyone can help me:

I downloaded this program and although it appeared at first to be running smoothly, it seems as though after playing the game for about 15 minutes it suddenly closes and an error window pops up explaining that the program had an unknown severe error and had to be closed. I really like this game and would like to continue playing it, but I am unsure of what to do. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Extra information: I am using a new iMac with Intel Core i3, 3.2 GHz, and an ATI Radeon HD 5670 graphic chip.

    Thanks for your time/help!.

The problem is probably the Vertex shader issue. I don't know the particular "package" this thread started with, but in general, you need to run "WINE CFG" select the graphics tab and disable the Vertex Shader. (set it to none).

You might also find some information on the full installation at the LOREBOOK page... I just did some extensive updating of it.

I downloaded the exact program shown in the picture above posted by Leselle. For some reason, the patching option does not show up under tools. It won't let me choose a world or log on either. Does anyone know what I need to do to make it work? Do I have to install Wine to make it work? Thanks!

Sorry, no idea what might be going wrong.
More info could prove to be valuable, are you getting any error messages? Have you checked all the menus?

I'll ask my friend if he's been in a similar situation as you have, if I had a Mac I would be able to test it, but I'm hand tied here trying to help with a program I don't use lol, so any extra info would be appreciated.

The initial link and patching worked wonderfully well. I can now play lotro on my Mac which is damn sexier than the ####ty PC I've been using - thanks very much to the OP and everyone else who's posted helpful info on the post

I use CrossOver Games from Codeweavers to run LotR online. Some annoying issues now and then but am able to play the game for the most part. But they seem to have a team working consistently to address any situation that comes up so they can improve the program.

    Re: Lotro mac client?

As a response to the above post about the "Vertex Shader" issue, could you explain how to access Winecfg using the download listed in the first post, and on a Mac (of course)? Strangely, I can't find any actual program labeled "Wine" in my finder, except for the "Lord of the Rings Online" launcher, which only brings up the typical game launcher when I use it, and none of the settings in the launcher will allow me to change the Vertex Shader. Don't mean to be a pain, but if I can get this game to function upwards of 99% of the time (it's currently around 65-75% of the time, though it gets really bad in laggy places), then it will be the difference of me giving it up in a month or getting VIP and playing for about a year.

Thank you for any help you can give me,

    ~Tens

Hey! I'm glad you guys like my OSX version. I plan on uploading an updated one to Fileplanet with the Isengard update. Give me about a week. I have to talk to the File planet gurus again to have them do the update on their end.

I'd like to note, for anyone who does not get this right off the bat:

This OSX release is not official, I did this for the community as a whole and to help out some MAC only friends who wanted to play Lotro. and I am really leaving it up to Turbine to tell me if they ever feel this is violating anything. So far they have not said anything.

I'm glad this is seeing some use. Now to get the update ready...

[edit] Oh and if you guys need help with anything, let me know via PM, I don't browse the forums as much as I used to.

Ok, Im quoting from another thread, but this helped a friend who uses mac to run lotro with the recent RoI expansion.

    Hope that helps!

(Next step is to get the updated msvcp80.dll from somewhere!?)

This works on Mac using the file planet installation, which uses wineskin.

    http://www.fileplanet.com/218758/210...-Unofficial%29

    First patch the client

Then download the msvcp80.dll and right click in LOTRO.app and then show contents.

    Now copy it into
/Applications/Lord of the Rings Online.app/Contents/Resources/drive_c/Program Files/Turbine/The Lord of the Rings Online

    Hi everyone
    thanks for trying to help.

I'm having the same problem. If i don't copy the .dll then the output window just says "finished" and nothing happens.
On the other hand, when i do copy the .dll i get this message

"can't open the data files. Check that they exist and that you have permission to write to them. the program will now exit. (201)"

does anyone have any idea what i'm supposed to do?
    thanks again

Hey everyone, the new Rise of Isengard Revision was made to the fileplanet download:

    http://www.fileplanet.com/218758/210...s-Online-(MAC)

I know it stinks to re download a 16GB file, however this is a revision I personally tested as was able to run without any issues. If it is still not working after you download the new version, please let me know.

    Thanks,

Dude just a quick question? Did you get this patched? and did you install this manually without using Crosstie?

Basically the reason i ask this, is because i did it manually and i always had trouble patching.

Now i uninstalled/deleted the bottle and used cross tie to install Lotro... Now this is like a unattended version of Windows.. You click run and it installs/downloads everything for you with just 1 click of a button.

Now I did this, and i can patch and run perfect. The only thing i do have to do is when i patch, i make sure the patch.dll box is ticked, just because sometimes i dont feel like its patching properly:s

Yes mate, i believe this will run better for you with bootcamp. As crossweaver/pylotro takes alot of CPU'sage.

If you need anyhelp with bootcamp, let me know

One of the kinnies uses a mac mini on bootcamp and has less trouble than i do on my imac 27 lol.

Have you clicked the .dll patch file in options and patched again (just incase there is a file missing).

This sounds like the .ini file isnt copied over right.. I would browse the .ini file (sorry im not at home so i forgot the full name) copy it to your destop just incase and repatch. See what happens.

Also did you use crossover to install or do it yourself?

    Re: Lotro mac client?

I've had the same problem. DL'd for 14 hrs.. and it wouldn't open. Had my wife try at her office, 1 hr.. still same thing; ans she's on PCs at her office.

It just said there is nothing to open.

Thanks very much for this ! It worked perfectly. Just patch it and it will be alright.

I'm attempting to use this on Lion, but for some reason every time the launcher opens, it immediately closes again. Has anyone has had this problem? Or does the client just not work on Lion?

EDIT: I was able to figure it out. Thanks anyway! Just tried to load my plugins and they didn't work lol.
