    Is it necessary?

Hi, I'm new to farming and just had a simple question. I noticed that when planting crops you can plant a whole bunch before you harvest any. I was curious if you had to harvest the crops before they disappear or something, or can you just plant everything you have and then harvest them all at the end? Thx

You have to harvest the crops before they disappear. You can do around seven fields at a time, but the timing and order of harvesting becomes pretty critical at that point - off by a couple of seconds and you could end up losing one or two fields. I personally have never had problems planting and harvesting five at a time.

I also like to rotate my toon as I plant so that my crops form a circle around me rather than letting all my crops stack on top of each other. That way I can harvest my first field first and my last field last. I feel like doing it that way minimalizes the chance of losing a crop.

I always plant 5 crops and then harvest them. Never lost any unless I wasn't paying attention. I don't rotate, just plant them on top of one another. Use the [DELETE] to select the oldest crop (which is always on top) and then [U] to harvest it. Has worked good for over 4 years.

The difference between stacking the five fields, and rotating them around you is you can click on all five when they are around you and you harvest much faster (becuase the character doesn't pause between, he/she just goes right on harvesting each one till done) and you don't have to sit there with it at that point, you can walk away and come back when done. With stacking them in one spot you cannot harvest the ones below the top one till the top one is done, so you have to select/use each one after waiting on each one.
