It's funny to me how some of the LtC Captains on this forum talk about how they are the best and most "valuable" to a raid then complain about how their DPS supposedly sucks.
That's amusing to me for some reason
Anyways...I've played with some of the best LtC Captains out there and their damage is good I can tell you from experience, especially considering everything else they bring to a group. Maybe some minor improvements could be added - but it's not as bad as you people are making out. Captain DPS is solid.
Anecdote: Based on about 3 parses each on LL 70k Trees, my recklessness warden has slightly more sustained single-target dps than one of my kinmate's equivalently geared champs (though it is understood that champs are not at their strongest with single target damage). I know my kinmate and I are just snapshots of overall warden dps vs overall champ dps, but it makes me feel like the devs did a good job in designing a DPS role for wardens that is good enough for all but T2 Orthanc*.
Now the question is, is our Captain raw DPS good enough to supplant a champ or a hunter or an RK from a DPS spot (assuming there's already another captain in the "support" spot)? Even factoring in added DPS from the buffs that DO stack (blade brother, Oathies, War Banner [honestly the other captain's probably using hope]), is our net DPS good enough to replace the hunt/rk/champ or the burg (who adds more single-target dps than anything but the red capt with BBro, Telling Mark, and every other non-stacking offensive buff attributed to him)? Note, I'm saying good enough, not better than. I'm starting to think the Captain is good enough to be in the DPS role for anything but T2 Orthanc (I've lead a successful 6 captain foundry for example). But good luck convincing the majority of pug leaders of that ("we already have a captain" - Foundry pug leader), because there are better, higher dps options.
Is this where we oughta be? I'm still rethinking my position on that. The DPS disparity really has narrowed...
* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhMznBypvn0 Here's a video with a Warden tank (presumably co-tanked trash) who put on might gear (12k health) and assisted in zerging the Acid T2 boss (they did burgstack). BEFORE U6. But I don't figure he was brought in for his DPS--they just didn't make him switch to another toon cause A) that aint right and B) his pre-U6 warden DPS was good enough. I'm not really making a point with this, it's just interesting.
