"GLFF is not a global looking for fellowship, perhaps another channel can be made for that; a channel that has people actually LFF.
What is on Riddermark seems mostly to be a group of people who use GLFF as a global chat for talking about things in their life, how a fight was not fair in monster play, and how magnificent their epeen is. That's fine, but it does drown out (deter?) folk LFF."
Why are you in GLFF? To find groups or to take part in a gossip fest where people get so riled up at what is being said that they stop enjoying game?
Do we need a new global chat that goes outside of the current GLFF?
As I see it, Riddermark could use three global chats: One for people actually LFF, another for PvMP (self regulated to hammer down anyone whining), and a third one like the one we have now, mostly filled a sluggish flow of random insults and LOTRO celebrity chatter.
What are your thoughts on this? Maybe we can work something out to get beyond the miasma in GLFF now.
p.s.
Joining a larger kinship is not a solution, this is a preference for some, but should not be needed for people.
Lirgon, you are missing the point (purposefully?).
GLFF now has some folk lff, but seems to be mostly used to grind axes and rent out soap boxes.
Do you think we can have another chat for a global looking for fellowship, do we need one? Should we care that folk stop playing (or do without the benefits of a true global looking for fellowship) because of the actions of some?
I share your same viewpoint (this problem seems prevalent across all servers with a glff), but I would like to bring up one thing.
If you create a new 'glff', what's to keep people from being chatty, and what's to prevent those who cluttered the old glff from coming over into your new one?
I truly, honestly wish people would save glff for actual lff's, but unless we get some sort of policing force, people aren't going to fully respect the space.

A Lot of people are not even aware GLFF is even there. Maybe Try spamming /joinchannel glff in all the regions.
People chat in glff because they have their personal clicks they quest with and generally use glff as a last resort. But if you were to flood glff with new glff'rs hehe. Maybe the content of the channels topic may change for people looking for fellowships to an increased % rather then mainly social.
We could get a Global OOC /GOOC going again.. But both GLFF and GOOC are hardly ever populated like it used to be on Big E - my release server. There were 250+ people in that channel sometimes... GLFF here on Riddermark rarely sees 200.
I understand your concern dude, however it's just how things r here on Ridder. People who use Glff are mostly 65s or more experienced players from other servers and they just got into a habit of using that channel as GOOC =)
I personally turn both LFF and GLFF only when i'm trying to get a raid or a group together than turn it off. But to be honest i would prefer to have it on the entire time
If anyone announcing GLFF in starter zones also mentioned GOOC, things might not get so vitriolic in GLFF and everyone would feel more comfortable in logging into it.
I, personally, have no problem with the chitchat. People on Riddermark have tried getting a second global channel going, it never worked. A lot of times, when I'm on, my kin is fairly quiet. Because of that, I tune into glff and enjoy the chitchat while I'm doing things.
I also don't get where you say no one uses it for lff, because I see it all the time. Turtle, GS, Hele, Watcher, and more. The lower levels tend to not use it like that as much, because they get groups together in their region. The higher levels group from all over.
The fact that it is the only global channel is going to practically force the chitchat. Because face it. People like to socialize. They like connecting with all those people. And since everyone watches that channel, they can lff when they are in it, too.
Between the profanity filter and the option to /leavechannel, it's not like it's a huge problem to have the chitchat. If you are going to start trying for a GOOC channel, you also need a GADVICE channel, because we ask advice there, too. Don't forget the GTRADE channel, as we offer things up now and again. In fact, why not eliminate the regional channels completely, and have everyone automatically in the global ones? Then you can listen to Bree chat in Moria or Mirkwood.
This reminded me, you guys have no idea how much better glff is now. Anyone remember when the server started we had "story guy"? Story guy was a super troll he would post long homosexual erotic stories utilizing lotr characters. He would go on for hours making new accounts when one would get banned. Then we'd also have Digs on a 3 day alcohol fueled bender ranting about the Roman empire or something equally obscure. Lol it was bedlam in the truest sense, ah good times good times.

I couldn't have described GLFF better! Looking at the number of 65s with condescending attitudes in there towards other, I couldn't be more happy I left that pisshole.
Majority of those in there need to learn to see some sunlight and live life to the max.

Ha I loved Digs, what ever happened to him?
GLFF is a pretty big misnomer, but if you ignore all the chat it is still doing its job, particularly for getting groups for high-level content. The trollish, relaxed attitude is just the GLFF way, all part of the fun, and making a new channel will not only be a lot of hard-work but will probably also end up going exactly the same way.
If you really don't like the chat, just ignore it or only join when you need a group. /leave GLFF is your best friend.
I have came back to play LotRO. I started here when F2P hit and Riddermark opened up. I came from the Brandywine server.
I also played WoW for 7 years, (stupid I know!!)
And let me tell you, see what people type in GLFF is NOTHING compared to WoW Trade chat (yes they also don't use Trade chat for trading! Go figure huh!)
Anyways since I have been back, I see people talking in GLFF all the time and not once was did I think "omg I can't stand this anymore, I need to shut it off now!!" And actually I have had a few "noobish" questions that have all been answered!!
I think some people are just too damn uptight and need to relax a bit! When you get a big group of people together you are not going to like what some people say. So either get over it and move on, be uptight about it OR actually have fun with it. After all this is just a game right?

Wow, now that was a while back, good old Digs now that is a name I havent heard in a while ...
I mostly use GLFF for LFF , but 80% of the time I dont mind the chit chat.. there are a few times ive turned it off, people who want to just rant about hating things, I cant stand that. I turn it off. There have been a couple too many THIS person is terrible in the moors becuase rant..
One bit of a recommend for those glff can bug at times-- Create an extra chat tab without Glff. This way instead of /leavechannel followed by /joinchannel later on when you want to use it for something just swap back and forth on which tab is visible. It's also handy when in a group to filter out extraneous chat channels as well.
I created a seperate tab for it. I use it when I need lulz. I never post in it, I just rotflolmfao at it, and post it in kinchat, so the kinnies can do the same, while helping me with an instance.
Also, GLFF is where I got all the lvl 75s to help me complete Tomb of Elendil.

"Story Guy" was the best thing that ever happened to GLFF. His stories were so detailed and well written... I mean, he invested some serious time in to his writings. Hahahaha.... Oh, story guy. Where art thou?
As of July 2012 the GLFF channel on the Riddermark is primarily a Global Looking for Fellowship channel. I haven't had to turn it off in a long time. I like that. I even get people for fellowships from it which is great.
