Re: The Sun is Rising - Laurelin joined forces.

Thanks to everyone who made the event on Vanyar possible, I had great fun! Special thanks to Joylil for getting it all going.

I even found that the lag wasn't too bad after about the first 45mins (although I do always have my graphics turned to low, with the exception of draw distance).

Excellent to hear we have another event scheduled already too. I agree with Parm on the timing: one every 6-8 weeks seems good to me.

I do have one suggestion to improve the events in the future, and that has to do with the naming of our green-ring creeps. Even though lots of people were swapping names of freeps/creeps at the beginning, and many others had names that were unmissable as their Laurelin counterparts, I'm sure there were a lot of people who I played with that I would know from Laurelin, but couldn't guess who they were from their names.

Now, I'm a Tolkien nerd, and I usually like to keep my names 'lore-appropriate' wherever possible. However, I think that, for the purposes of these events (which are mainly about having fun but also improving freep/creep relations), it might be handy if everyone used names which allowed them to be quickly and easily identified as their main character from Laurelin (whether that main is a freep or creep).

Normally, seeing an orc with any elfy, freep-style name would horrify me, but I'd be willing to bear it so that I could tell which of my arch-enemies was helpfully rezzing me, etc.. I think this would draw the freep and creep communities even closer together, knowing exactly who from Laurelin you are fighting beside.

It might be that some names are taken on the servers we visit, but then something like Brunt's exceptionally cunning 'Bruntvanyar' easily solves this.

Just a suggestion for the future. I hope everything goes well organising the Landroval event, and thanks again!

I agree with the idea of the familiar naming - I will do that myself.

I have been reading up on Landroval PvMP thread - and I think we will get quite a battle there.

Re: The Sun is Rising - Laurelin joined forces.

It was a quiet summer eve in the quiet neighborhood to the south of Bree. Sitting in his study, Aedon, captain of the free people sat sipping tea, and reading from an old tome he had purchased in Rivendell the week before. He welcomed this respite for his duties, and allowed himself to drift casually, while trying to immerse his mind in the book he held.

As he reread the same paragraph for the umpteenth time, he felt a sudden dread tug at his soul. Setting the book aside, he walked over and looked out the window. Across the way, he could see the lights of the neighborhood square, and beyond that the tree line as it sloped towards the gate out to the road. As he watched, it seemed to him that a darkness crept across the lands, slowly blocking out the glow from the town lamps.

Taking his halbred up from its resting place in a corner, Aedon stepped out onto the porch and looked around. The gathering darkness took the form of a fog, dense and black that wound its way through every street, reaching each corner of the small village. Through this denseness, neither light nor forms of buildings as close as across the way could be seen. And rising slowly, he could hear the low growl of some foul beast approaching the spot on which he stood.

It was a wild sound, and one that Aedon had heard many times while on patrols through the Ettenmoors. A stench of rotted flesh and old blood assailed his nostrils as the sound grew closer to him. Holding his weapon at the ready he faced his unseen foe, and waited for the feel of sharp fangs sinking into his flesh.

    The wargs were coming.

((Joy, This is the opening story for the planned invasion of Landroval. I am sorry, but I was not sure where you might like it posted. There will be much more to come before the invasion date.))

Re: The Sun is Rising - Laurelin joined forces.

The in scaled gloves, covered fingers of the man closed around his heavy saber. The weapon was drawn, the long blade leaving the dark ornated sheath. Air was cut, Mordor's steel blinked in the failing sunlight and then a cracking sound and a loud thud. The orc had have even time to scream so quick was he decapitated by the heavy easterling's weapon.
Egdhür, one of the most formidable chieftains of the east, servant of Mordor, peered at the very horizon, while orcs dragged away the still twitching body of their punished bethren. There was no mercy in the service of the flaming eye. Only success followed by boon, failure followed by punishment. Egdhür's lord in the great fortress had spoken clearly. He has been most successful and was now finally in the west, bringing word and troups to Angmar. A very special troup of soldiers, the elves nor the Rohirrim had spotted. They were hiding for a short time in Isengard and now had made into the North. Here, he would receive treasure and slaves to bring back to Rhûn. Here, Egdhür would gain even more power. He was favoured by the eye.
Grinning behind his mask, the easterling's rough voice sounded up:"Bring fire and oil! Those filthy orcs who flee shall be living torches!"
That was enough to bring the orcs of the Ettenmoors into movement. Never had they been fearing a man like this. They would fight hard, tougher than usual. They would bring him the treasure and dominion over these lands, as his Lord Sauron has promised him, would he succeed. He would look on the slaughter from a high point, enjoying it. But first he would let ''his troups'' free hand. They should roam and fright his enemies.
Utterly satisfied did Egdhül watched the wargs, leaving the cages, splitting into their packs and then disappearing into the shadows. Not Angmar's, not Isengard's beasts were about to rapture among the denizens of the free lands of Eriador. Mordor's Iron-fangs would be a challenge yet to meet for the Free Peoples. All glory was for Mordor.

Re: The Sun is Rising - Laurelin joined forces.

He had faced wargs many times in the past. On the sun drenched lands of the Ettenmoors where the smell of death mixed with the putrid stench of the orc masses. It was not a fear of these beasts which shook Aedon to the core, but odd glare of their crimson eyes meeting him within the small Bree neighborhood. This was not a field of battle, no land in the far wilds of Middle Earth; this was home, and his thoughts turned to his wife and child within their small house behind him.

He thought to scream out an alarm, to rouse the houses and men of Woodmead into action. But he hesitated for a moment and, in the back of his mind, he wondered why.

From the dense murk, one set of eyes slowly moved forward until the beast stood before him, revealed in the light from within the window of his house. He recognized this beast from past encounters. His long snout showed many scars most, likely received from hastily swung swords. Long healed gashes lined his side. As the beast regarded the man before him, a low grumbling chuckle escaped his throat.

“Tark”, he hissed, the disdain for the race of man evident. “Do you fear us? Because you should. Long years we have fought you invaders in our lands. Usurpers of that which is not yours, you have come time and again with biting blades seeking to lay waste to the clans of Gramsfoot. And time and again we have smote you, and driven you out. But hear me Tark, and take heed. A new power arises and prepares to move upon the lands. We come not to warn, nor to brag, but to watch as you slink away before the power that arises.”

Tilting his great head to the side the Warg regarded the man a moment before going on.

“Good, you know when to hold your tongue before the future masters of the land. Before the year is out we shall feed freely in this place you call home. Your blades, your spells and poisons shall avail you not. Doom is before you child of man, prepare to meet it in whatever way your kind does.”

As the last words were spoken, the warg backed into the mist, and then his, and the other eyes were gone. Aedon watched a bit longer as the fog slowly cleared allowing clear sight of the stars which twinkled in the skies above him.

He knew that this warning, this threat must not be ignored. These beasts came to revel in the fear they might induce in the population of Woodmead, and through out Breeland.

Quietly opening the door to his house, Aedon walked inside, and looked in on Jan and Kylee. Then, strapping his sword on, and taking in hand his halberd, headed out the door and towards the Titans hall.

War was on the horizon, and they must be prepared.

Latest news on the Landroval event saturday - they are making a warg raid same night!
We might actually get to kill something there!

I wrote this on their forum:

    Your burglars will be looted!
    Your captains will be slain!
Your champions will look like amateurs!
    Your guardians will be fleeing!
    Your hunters will be hunted!
Your lore masters will be thrown to the past!
    Your minstrels will be silenced!
Your rune keepers will be sleepers!
    Your wardens will be speared!

Be prepared, or suffer our wrath...
    Laurelin is coming.

    Sharpen your blades!
Let's show em, what we Laurelins are made of!

Re: The Sun is Rising - Laurelin joined forces.

Gathered from all corners of Middle Earth the forces of the freepeople prepared for battle. Even those with long standing feuds stood shoulder to shoulder with past foes, in a combined army the likes of which had not been seen since the early ages. Elves, Men Hobbits and Dwarves, all answered the call to defend their lands against the coming invasion.

Standing on the hill, looking out over the Ettenmoors Aedon was amazed at the beauty this land still wore. Years of fighting, scars and blight upon a weary landscape could still not dampen the beauty revealed as the sun rose in the east. Flanked by the Titans, and members of the other great houses, orders and kingdoms he waited, and watched.

As a black cloud approached, made up of carrion birds sensing battle and the inevitable feast to come, the thundering foot beats of an army great in number shook the stillness of the early morn. Lifting sword and shield, grasping staff, bow and rune firmly, the battle was about to begin. He stillness of those waiting their fate at GV was only broken by the sound of words of soothing and encouragements offered up in the minstrels song.

Re: The Sun is Rising - Laurelin joined forces.

Thanks everybody for supporting and joining this fun evening on Landroval.

    - Voice? There was a few issues on voice - to use ingame voice or TS3. When we are more than 1 raid, it is good, that at least the leaders can communicate.

    - Locals in Rising Sun raids? There was some locals there, that wanted to join our tribe. I declined that, but we had some in the raid. I think we need to figure out, how to deal with that - because I dont want to see laurelins left out, because of locals...
And in the same time, I am not very much for the idea of sign ups - it is only for fun, and I dont like it to be that strict.

    What do you guys think?

    The next event is set:

    Laurelin, sep. 3. - 9 PM BST - 22.00 CET

Sharpen your blades - joined forces of Landroval is comming!

Cracking fun last night. Great stuff. I haven't got a problem with locals joining, but if you stipulate a starting time then all the rising sun should be on at that time. You can leave the raid open after that?

That is a good idea - the trouble last night with that was, that we started way before event time.
But maybe we can tell locals, that we are disbanding and regrouping just before event start? And then fill up empty spaces with locals that wants to join? Would that make it fair...?

It was great to see all you folks there and having a good time. I know full well the lag was bad, and that the freeps did not seem to want to help solve the issue. But I think they were all just wanting to face the invading forces head on.

Re: The Sun is Rising - Laurelin joined forces.

I want to thank you all for participating and make an epic night on Laurelin. Everybody came with good spirit and once again, we showed that PvMP is fun and that we can make great events and that lag can't stop us, from having fun!

Another point was made after the huge laggy fight at cows. It worked to move the fights, so there was fights different places in the area - and again it showed, that communication across creep/freep can be a good idea, to make sure both sides feels, they can controll the action and not just be rudeless farmed. Thank you for your cooporation creep/freep and creep/invading creeps.

Maybe more small group fights is up in the future?

/cheers and thank you all for making the Sun Rise!

I did plan to join. But then when I today opened Snowbourn for the first time I remembered that I need a lvl 10 too to be able to make a creep. That made me change my decision. :P

The Sun is Rising - Laurelin joined forces.

    Hi all

I personally don't think, the time for Rising Sun events are just around the corner. But I have still been giving the event ideas some thoughts. And with this new rules for pvmp, that we might not even have seen all the consequenses of, we might consider, how events could/should be planned in the future.

The basic issue is, that keep going to a new server, will always make us start out as rank 0 - but if we go back to a server we already invaded, we have a tribe and even a little rank to begin with - and maybe the planning of pay back events will be easier too?

I would really like to get your comments on the issue - again - I don't think events will be planned soon in the future.

    /cheers

New rules for PvMP? I've been out of the game for a while, what new rules?

Personally I enjoyed the few of these events I attended (one or two IIRC) and would be more than happy to attend more!

One issue, that cross my mind, is the option to buy skills on creepside for turbine points (I don't creep much) - and I am not willing to spend my hard #### earned and saved (and maybe a few bought too) turbinepoints on a creep on another server. Ofc. I can go without - and I am willing to do that. I just want you guys thoughts about this - wanna visit a server, where we have been before or choose a new server?

The new rules of PvMP are the changes that came with RoI.
It aren't exactly new rules, but it changed (almost) everything that we were used to.
(At least, I think Joylil meant that.)

I think with RoI it'll be a lot tougher for rank 0 creeps who didn't buy stuff in the moors.
The same counts for rank 1, 2 or 3 creeps without bought skills.
You have to invest money or a huge amount of time (to rank) to be effective as creep.

This doesn't change the fact that it still can be a lot of fun even if we die.

    BINGO!
But I am glad to hear, that I am not the only one, who think it still can be fun to do invasions. Maybe we should pick a new server?
Though I heard rumours of a hobbitraid on Snowie... But Riddermark could be a nice target... And maybe Snowie ppl. that want to, could join also?

Ok, I haven't read up on the RoI changes, care to do a brief recap? Because if the only motivation for not doing invasions is that it's hard to creep on a rank 0 creep.. ..then I'd have to ask, what's the difference from before? It's always been that way as far as I see it.

What other changes did RoI bring that makes it harder? Being able to buy skills doesn't really make it harder, rather the opposite. I can understand how you wouldn't want to waste TP on a creep you most likely won't play much but then again, you don't need to.

Well, I for one would be up for any server really, you just have to get a freep to lvl 10 and that takes what? a few hours at the most? In fact, I'll go right ahead and make a freep on both of those servers you mention. As I said, I'd be up for any server really. I don't know if this idea really took off well enough, but in time, the news will spread and it might still take off. I like the idea.
